"Aliens." You lose.

Also--I have never purchased a Wonder Woman comic in my life, so I am the definition of "outside her fanbase"--and I still look forward to the film. As such, you lose a second time.

lol

LMAO! You're kidding, right? Guess you hate Buffy, Angel, & others so much that you just make up that he never wrote anything that has mass appeal. Boy, you are so wrong.

BTVS and Angel had a viewing audience of about 6-7 million viewers in their hey day, that's hardly "mass appeal," thats a niche audience.

What do you call when many fans demand they bring back Angel or Firefly or Buffy, etc. back on tv? Maybe it because of "mass appeal"? I thought so.

I'm sorry, have ANY of those shows been brought back? BTVS moved to an even more fledgling network and died, Angel hasnt been seen since it was cancelled, and Firefly came back in a mediocre movie with poor box office, because it...ironically enough, didnt have any mass appeal.

I bet Buffy & Angel are the reason they brought in your fav. crappy show "Smallville". :p

First off one had nothing to do with the other. Superman has been a WB property for some 20 odd years so nothing had to be "brought in." Secondly, SV isn't my favorite show, not that I know what the heck that has to do with the price of tea in China. And third, the fact that you tried to prove your point by somehow trying to knock something you believe I like, shows you're an immature dolt.

and Firefly came back in a mediocre movie with poor box office,

Whoa, wait. While we're all off-track and such, I'd like to interject that I'm not the biggest fan of whedon, never got Buffy or Angel, and couldn't STAND his original screenplay for Alien Resurrection, much less his revised and then hacked up later drafts--I do recognize his hand in Toy Story, and in Speed, and the 13 episodes of Firefly were great television, and the movie CERTAINLY wasn't mediocre.

Did anyone watch it? No. But the movie was pretty critically lauded overall. Reviewers tended to like it. Certainly wasn't MEDIOCRE, as far as the general consensus went. And post viewing polls done showed audiences really ENJOYED the movie--if they got into the theater. Most of em didn't, because the marketing was ass on a biscuit. Horrible marketing. Sorta the same thing with the series Firefly. No one knew how to sell it, so they didn't. And it was DOA. Same with the movie.

But it wasn't mediocre. The movie, that is. Or the show. But I can't deny it didn't make bank at the theater, not by a longshot.

Other big movies with female leads? Tomb Raider (and it's sequel), Underworld (and it's sequel), and surely others that I can't recall at the moment. Care to try something new?

Damn straight.

Underworld sucked. How was that big?
Yes it did suck, but quality has nothing to do with success (this is why the attrocious Star Wars prequels made piles of cash despite being trash). Both Underworld films were reasonably succesful, enough so to spawn sequels.

Eh, if thats how you define success.....but remember that pales in comparison to a project like Superman Returns.

So you can understand my logic when I make statements like WW will be a much smaller project and the Warners wont invest as much into it compared to Batman and Supes.

I can see it given around the same budget as Catwoman. BTW, Catwoman...total disgrace of a film but recently it was reported and confirmed that Halle Berry is in talks to possibly do another, despite her denying it a month prior.

Gosh I hope not!

kill bill....nuff said.

i agree that 99% of the time, a blockbuster action film with a female lead sucks, but thats no reason to believe that it CANT be done properly, because it CAN be done. all it takes is the right team...now whether or not whedon can do it, is debatable, sure...but to say its not possible and hasnt been done before is ridiculous.

yeah, it's been mentioned. Although outside of Aliens and Kill Bill, nothing too convincing has been brought up. That said--I don't think people care all that much anymore whether the ass kicker is male OR female. for example--what stardom Michelle Yeoh had in America came from her whipping insane amounts of ass in Supercop (as it was called here) that James Bond movie, and Crouching Tiger. People will accept a female ass-kicking heroine. The story's just gotta be right. They were accepting in 79 (alien) and 86 (aliens) they'll be accepting now.

killbill was a great flick but it wasnt a "blockbuster" it made like, 50 million.

Thats the difference, you cant really compare movies to TV shows in that regard.

Fair enough. I'm just saying it can work with movie too if they try. Hopefully WW will put that to the test.

But......Im hoping it will be a decent success.... and I think it will be if they just do one thing;

Cast TAYLOR COLE as Wonder Woman.. that is all.

Mind telling me who is Taylor Cole? Never heard of her, but I think casting an unknown is a great idea like it been done before. Even thought I admit in the past that I really wanted Catherine Zeta-Jones. Her look & accent is the kind to display that Amazon look. Oh yeah, having a great talent & killer bod can't hurt too! ;)

Kill Bill 1 and 2 made a combined 110 million plus, I believe. If it had been one movie as planned (and typically as viewed, from what I understand regarding home theater) I think it would have hit that amount.

Then how does they keep running for many years? Sound like "mass appeal" there.

Maybe it because WB is stupid for not bringing some big hits back. Many popular shows go through this. Ever heard of "Family Guy"? It was cancel & then made a comeback.

Doesn't tv shows go through this after it cancel, but later turn up on different channels? Or maybe you don't get cable or digital tv. Or maybe you don't pay attention when it still on air.

Firefly came back in a mediocre movie with poor box office, because it...ironically enough, didnt have any mass appeal.

You're forgetting DVD. It sold well. Just because a movie don't sell well on the screen don't mean it the same for DVD. Ever heard of Austin Powers? The first movie wasn't a big hit in theater, but it became a success on DVD/VHS that it warrant 2 sequels that were even bigger hits than the first on screen. Same for Serenity.

Wow. I expect someone to be mature not to call someone names. Doesn't calling someone a dolt mean that person with the name calling is immature instead? Sound like it. At least I barely call people dolt & all that flamming. You should at least ignore me, but instead you became rude with calling me a "dolt". Thank god I have class to not resorting to names calling like that. ;)

Alright, shes an actress. Shes reletively unknown having a reccuring role on the show Summerland on WB, then appearances on Supernatural, CSI etc

I was told on the DC movie boards, her performances were good and she was very WW-like. Shes currently 23/24, around the perfect age for a Diana origins story and that matches well with the relative ages of Routh and Bosworth. Shes around 5'8 which is the perfect height to me. The WW boots could make her slightly taller but I dont wana see her taller than Bale (just in case fans get some Justice in the future ).

Family Guy had more viewers at it's lowest point than either of the Whedon shows did at their peeks. I dont see how the situations are analagous, considering there's absolutley zero chance either of those shows come back.

pretty much every show that hits 100 episodes, goes into syndication. Even shows that were cancelled. It doesnt mean the show was good or had a mass viewing audience, just that it's relatively cheap programming for a network to use during slow hours.

LOL OK call me when they greenlight the sequel to Serenity.

that's funny coming from the clown who tried to take a shot at me by calling a show I watch "crappy" for no other purpose than to be a nuisance. Yup, you're just bubbling over with class.

Ya thats right. She'd be 23 around filming time though, same age as Kate is now.

She actually does look old enough to pull it off
