I just wonder how much of what your reading into this is personal bias?
"it makes him seem..."
"as if he were saying..."
" metaphoricaly called it useless"
If you believe that "silly" means "useless" thats all you, I'm pretty sure Charlie Chaplan, WC Fields, Mae West, John Cleese, ( you see where I'm going here) would disagree with that sentiment. Silly is not a bad thing. The world has room for silly.
What if you replace the word 'silly" with the synonym 'fun'? Same meaning but with potentially less personal bias attached to it. Still him slagging the movie, or him sayin it's essentially a 'popcorn' flick? And that folks think SW are popcorn flicks, which was not his intention.
( don't even get me started on the sheer pompousness of trying to tell the world that his space opera was intended to touch on the ur myth of the 'heros journey' and how the movies are allegroy for pretty much every epic myth ever. Talk about full of yourself, lol)
I don't see him trying to put his movie 'above' this one, I see him trying to put them in seperate genres, 'S'posed to be fun' and 'Turned out fun on the way to something else'. The diff between say the first Batman movie and the latest one.
