This looks like George Lucas' best movie in YEARS. Glad to see him go back to the stuff that inspired him as a kid!

This movie looks awful and looks to be more of a giant finger towards the Tuskagee airmen rather than a tribute.

Terrible.

You're entitled to your opinions but care to tell us why you think the movie will be terrible? No offense to you, but I don't understand people that just come into a topic says something sucks and doesn't give a reason as to why they think something sucks.

Already did if you even bothered to read the last page other than that one post.

No offense to you, but I don't understand why people can't read a couple post after that where I posted a message where I gave my reasoning.

Looks like it'll be light on characterization and instead they'll be turning these great men into nothing more but one liner spitting pieces of cardboard. The airmen in the trailer from what I can see for the exception of Howard, Gooding, and one or two of the other pilots aren't convincing anyone they're from that era (just looks at the mannerism and manner of speech by some just go check out the PBS The Tuskegee Airmen if you want a more accurate depiction)

The concentration rather seems to be on the fancy bells and whistle "gee whiz" effects instead of trying to give some proper build up. The focus of the entire thing seems off in terms of the pilots.

If anyone wants to see a great representation go check out The Tuskegee Airmen (TV 1995) version instead of this.

Those are just my feelings on it. I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade it's just how I feel about this entire project. I was hoping for the best and unsurprisingly was disappointed once the trailer hits.

Just saw that. MY bad

to be honest...i'm not going into this movie for historical accuracy. If I wanted that I'd watch the history channel. I want some freaking cool dogfights and entertaining characters.

Glad to know you've seen and thoroughly enjoyed the finished film.

Of course the focus is on the action is the trailer and advertisement campaign. Why wouldn't it be? They're trying to draw in all sorts of crowds, and fighter planes in action do that.

Any other WWII based flick would never have ads like that.

Maybe not ads, but what was the response to Tarantino using Bowie in a WWII flick? Didn't Gladiator use heavy metal in its ads? Heck, 300 used NIN. Period appropriate music certainly has never been required for advertising a movie.

Which isn't to defend the quality of the ad (or movie) itself.

The interview with Jon Stewart was really informative. Whatever Lucas' faults are, he desperately wants this movie to succeed financially, for no other reason than to prove the studio gatekeepers wrong when they told him a movie with an all-black cast is a poor investment.

So even if this movie is more action than education, it was done that way for a clear reason.

I have trouble believing a studio told him that. Plenty of successful all black cast films out there. I'm calling BS.

How many successful all black films not done by Tyler Perry are released each year?

One? Two?

George Lucas has no reason to make this up, honestly.

I'd watch it just for the dogfights. The Tuskegee Airmen were insanely badass, all while the military leadership tried to screw them. Kind of ironic, that you're fighting Nazis, while your commanding officer is a Klansman.

This is Hollywood we're talking about. Of course they told him this.

I got to go to the premiere of the movie in Chicago over the weekend and a few of the Airmen were in attendance and had nothing but positive remarks about the movie. Also got to briefly meet Lucas and get an autograph :)

I'm seriously considering going to see this film, but I'm not too fond of George Lucas(and yes I realize he's not directing).

Nice . Did you like it?

I hope this movie is a success. But i don't think it will be. Not just because it's an all black cast, but because George Lucas is a lousy director and script writer.

George Lucas didn't write or direct the film, so what's your point?

I don't think it's going to succeed because it looks largely unappealing in every way. I see no really good selling point to the film besides iffy looking special effects.

I'm black and I want films about and staring and directed by blacks to succeed but only if they are good and Red Tails just doesn't look good. I'm sorry but I can't just enjoy good intentions when I'm watching a flick.

It's a funny day when Tyler Perry's endorsement would give it more clout than George Lucas himself.

I am going to see this movie and I hope others do because Hollywood will use this movie to determine if its profitable to do action movies with black casts. Right now black cinema is relegated to Tyler Perry and the "I got out the ghetto and made something of myself" films
