Ghost Rider 2 underway

I don't think its ill-advised. If Cage doesn't come back that is still no reason to start from scratch. Everyone knows Toby is peter parker, if he stops doing spiderman, there will be a new actor and no reboot...nor should there be. I don't see the difference.

With Spider-Man it's a different story. It's an established franchise and people might be more forgiving b/c the previous films have already had great action and they were very satisfactory (even SM 3 to a lesser extent).

With Ghost Rider however, people weren't exactly big on Nic Cage playing the lead role, and critically the film was a failure. Starting from scratch would probably be the best idea.

All this talk about reboots, whether the movie will have a sequel just reminds me of how much Marvel has consistently degraded their own products by letting studios exploit their characters with lackluster results.

How many duds can Marvel handle?

Fantastic Four - craptastic
Daredevil - crap with horns
Elektra - just crap
Ghost Rider - flaming crap

Now that Marvel has their own studio, hopefully things will change for the better. And maybe fans who are shelling money for these comics and sometimes promoting their movies, will get a movie worth their time and effort.

Well even though none of the two official Marvel made movies have come out yet, both IM and TIH are giving me, and lots of other people a pretty good feeling.
I just wish that they'd have to sole rights to all their characters since they definitely seem to put more care into their projects.
But I still stick with my hope for a reboot.

If Nic Cage ain't gonna be back they won't have a choice but to do a reboot, I mean his face is plastered on every Ghost Rider ad.

Agreed, and whether we like it or not, he was the main draw for the movie also.

Lawsuit now so until settled forget it. Then the strike is coming so all 2009 films better be done filming before end of May 08. So unless something happens this week look for the earliest possible Ghost Rider film to happen in 2010 if the strike happens.
what lawsuit?

Nic cage the main draw? What? If anything was the main draw it was the f-ing skeleton riding a motorcycle with his head on fire. No body has ever cared about Nic Cage. Ever. Give me one example of anyone going "hey lets go see that new Nic Cage movie because he is so awesome". I will tell you this no teen girl, young boy, or even adult cares about his movies. You could re-cast this movie with an unknown actor and all the marketing department would have to do his have some mid to high profile cast members and barely show the face of the new Blaze, and then just keep showing a skeloton on a motorcycle.

GR isn't a movie series that needs Nic cage, wait let me change that no movie series ever needs Nic Cage to start with.

DH2,

You have to read into his comment more carefully. We simply agreed that without Nicolas Cage their can't be a sequel to MSJ's Ghost Rider.

That doesn't rule out a 'reboot' but simply no continuation of the story introduced by MSJ.

^Plus, i would say Cage's star power is a big reason why the movie did so well.

Like it or not, he is a star and people go to see his movies.

Cage gave alot of credibility and appeal to what was pretty wacky concept. Many people would have just laughed (even harder than they did) at the idea of this movie without Cage.

I just noticed on imdb.com that Ghost Rider 2 is listed as in development, release date of 2009. :ghost:
That would be nice

That's odd, considering there hasn't been any word about it aside from that old MSJ interview.

i wouldnt trust IMDB ....they simply gather news supplied to them by regular online folks. they are notorious for posting old/outdated and sometimes outright false info.
the 2009 date is old...think that was the tentative date for a sequel when the movie 1st came out last Feb.
however since there hasnt been any news from Marvel or Sony my take is that there are no plans for any sequels or reboots anytime soon....if ever.

I'm sure your right :csad: :csad:

Cage is all for it. The interview on the front page of SHH pretty much confirms it. I just hope this never gets made...we need a change in power before a good film on this character is made.

dont worry...you'll get your wish.

^Some people on this board are pretty certain it will happen, so i'm not giving up hope just yet.

Why so certain BG ??

Well...this is just my opinion but i dont feel that Sony wants to spend another 100 mil on a movie that will only break even at the box office domestically. also if there were a somewhat decent amount of fans (comic fans mostly) a sequel or reboot would be pretty certain. Hellboy is a good example of this...

the fact that Cage hasnt even been contacted by Sony since last Feb is pretty telling too...think even the producers involved w/ the movie havent been talking about sequel plans w/ Sony either. thats pretty odd ...there should at least have been some kind of talks about what they would like to do.
it just seems to me that Sony will just play this safe and coast on the future profits the movie will make them (tv rights, licensing deals, ect) until the
rights run out. just too much risk and not enough guarantee of a profit.

if the budget was reduced to say around 50-60 mill then yeah...maybe a sequal could be possible...but i doubt anyone would want to watch a GR movie w/ cheap cgi (unless it was a direct to video deal..brrr)

imo it was pretty rare and unusual that a GR movie was even made w/ a 100 mil+ budget and a famous actor but i think it will be much much more difficult to get a sequel greenlighted.

also add into all of this is whether or not Marvel wants to even pursue more GR films...but that is just more speculation on my part. have to wait and see what they will do and say,

i hope im wrong but im not getting any good vibes on this....
