Ghost Rider vs GR: Spirit of Vengeance

Most comic book fans I dont think could even embrace a movie like this even if it is good. Ghost Rider SOV looks like it just might be a fun ride and sure maybe is not deep but theres nothing wrong with that.

Very true

Not every film is meant to be an Iron Man or Dark Knight, people should learn to accept things for what they are.

Cool

I agree with you on all counts and sorry for the misunderstand I didn't notice your post count so I didn't realize you were a "newbie".

Welcome aboard and the few us of here in the Ghost Rider threads appreciate you joining us. :woot:

Thanks a lot

I m a big Ghost Rider fan since years and believe it or not but it's the one movie about comics I'm interested the most in 2012 :woot:

I love the B Flick flavor of this one, it fits well the character (as long as no one is "pissing fire" or anything else on screen).

I watched Crank recently and that was like a video game/live comics to me (thinking about G.T.A the movie).

If those two directors can just put the same amount of non stop action and fun into GR : SOV, it will be 1h30 of pure fun.

Agreed on all counts, I pretty much feel the exact same way.

So as GR fans we cant expect more for the character we love? No is expecting a movie exactly like TDK, but a GR movie made to close of that quality isnt too much to ask is it?

The film-makers have decided that they know better than the people who have been writing this character for years by changing things unnecessarily to suit their view of the character which doesnt seem serious enough. I'm still hoping to enjoy the movie, but this notion that we cant expect more is ridiculous in my eyes. If Thor can be taken seriously and have a good movie made about him, then GR certainly can.

Take what you can get good sir, and find the silver lining in it. I'm a huge Punisher fan and I've had to sit through a similar situation. Boring, drawn-out first movie and a WTF of a second movie. I think this will be similar. At least a WTF movie will make you laugh, pop your eyes and toss back popcorn.

I've also seen one of these director's movies before. They know how to make a fun ride. If they've done that here... well, better than no movie at all, I suppose. At least the action looks good.

I believe someone said back in January they hadn't seen any TV spots for the film and thought Sony wouldn't advertise.

To me, it looks like they've been going to town promoting this movie. We don't have cable, but we still pick up local HD channels and I've seen quite a few so far. Saw spots a few times in Buffalo Wild Wings and I'm seeing new BTS features and TV spots all over their Facebook page.

Yeah it's all over the place, as well as on the web. Seems like Ghost Rider is burning through every webpage I visit, motorcycle smoking. I'm not talking to too many people who want to see it though... but at least they know it is out there.

Punisher: War Zone made me roll my eyes, not toss back popcorn, so I am hoping for a movie nothing like that, though it wouldnt surprise me. I just want a good movie, action is great and all, but without compelling characters involved and reasons for the action it doesnt grab me at all.

No, Punisher Warzone was bad, but the guys directing this are better directors and the cast is more talented. And you have to admit, the part in Punisher where the guy gets caught by the rocket mid-air was pretty awesome. In a stupid sort of way.

Gotta say, this one just looks so much more badass than the last. I'm surprised it even got made.

Doesn't grab me either. There is nothing peculiar or wrong for wanting a comic book you enjoy, to be portrayed with quality and respect.

This movie amps up the action, but I doubt it will have any new memorable characters...let alone a compelling story.

We'll see tomorrow night how it stacks up :)

I'm pretty sure Idris Elba's character "Moreau" and Johnny Whitworth's "Roarke" will be memorable characters.

Well that was the only good part in the movie, and the only bit to make me laugh.

Yep we will see, lets hope we proved wrong and this turns out to be a good movie after all.

Although i am looking forward to SoV, I still think not doing an adaptation of Road to Damnation was a mistake. That story is just ready made for a movie. An awesome movie at that.

True, but atleast they drew inspiration from Road to Damnation for Ghost Rider's new look.

Road to Damnation was okay, but the real bread and butter of the comics was the 70's run, the 90's run, and Jason Aaron's. Zarathos in this movie will be interesting to watch how much he resembles the comic.

I guess I've always been in the minority, but I really enjoyed Ghost Rider. I saw it like 2-3 times in theaters and a few more times on Blu-Ray.

According to LA Times today, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance total budget was 80 Million.

That means. the movie has to make around 180 Million to be considered a success...or something.

I just discovered that Scott Gimple, creator of the Fillmore animated series back in the day, co-wrote this with Goyer. I have to go see it now.

By total budget do you mean production and marketing costs?

RTD basically IS a movie in comic-book form. They should have adapted that and got decent directors to do it as well.
