Gi Joe - Part 1

I just read at IESB that Mark Whalberg is going to play Duke in the GI Joe movie, good news. Now they have to get Vin Diesel to play Destro and Angelina Joelie to play the Baroness!

G.I. Joe 3 Rumors:

According to Film Divider, "Matt Trakker will be stepping up onto the big screen. he was the lead character of MASK, or Mobile Armoured Strike Kommand, a Kenner toy line and cartoon from the ‘80s. ... Trakker joining GI Joe suggests that MASK will be introduced either in this film, set up for a sequel, or possibly be established for their own spin-off. It’s easy to see why Hasbro and Paramount would like this idea."

As the site reminds us, there is a precedent for a G.I. Joe-M.A.S.K. crossover after the Trakker character was reintroduced as a Joe mission specialist following Hasbro's purchase of Kenner. If you don't recall, M.A.S.K. ran from 1985-86 and was essentially a hybrid of two other wildly popular 1980s toy-cartoon franchises, G.I. Joe and Transformers, with a special task forces who used transforming vehicles to fight the evil organization V.E.N.O.M.

But that's not all, Joe fans. Film Divider also claims the main villains of G.I. Joe 3 will be Tomax and Xamot, the identical twin terrorists (well, Xamot had a scar on his cheek) who also served as Cobra's Crimson Guard Commanders. In the Renegades continuity, Tomax and Xamot also had psychic powers.

It was recently reported that Disturbia and Eagle Eye director D.J. Caruso was in the running to helm G.I. Joe 3, which is expected to open in 2016.

Interesting if true, it could work with the right approach and make the movies better. Caruso is a better director than Jon Chu, so it's a step in the right direction.

The M.A.S.K. intro, one of the coolest ever:

Here's one with the M.A.S.K. vehicle transformations:

With the right combination of practical and digital effects, a live action version could be awesome. :word:

Caruso is a good choice to direct, the guy can do great action and is a decent director, will be interesting to see how this turns out.

I just want to see the return of Scarlet and Baroness. They were fierce! And Paramount.... set the date!

Random bump...

I was posting in another thread about GI Joe and it reminded me of this?

Does anyone think it's still coming out? I don't see this coming out before 2018 with where it's at and if The Rock is still attached.

I say reboot.

I say reboot, make it fun but not stupid like the first movie. More Winter soldier type tone. Drop The Rock but keep Ray Park as Snake Eyes.

So I just saw the news that they are, of course, waiting for The Rock's schedule to clear up to do GI Joe 3.

Anyone think they should just reboot if they're gonna do this

There seems to be no hurry to do another GI Joe movie. The Rock's got a lot more on his plate.

Just for example, the Rock said he's going to be filming nonstop until August 2017. So think about that. You really think Paramount's going to start filming another GI JOE movie in 2018? Doubt it.

While the movies were by no means home runs, I do think storywise, they did a good job in terms of reaching from Point A to Point B so I'm not the biggest advocate of rebooting it completely.

I wonder if Joe 3 is still happening or is it dead in the water already? It's almost 4 years since Retaliation.

I'd love to see a near prequel (similar to Rogue One) based on Larry Hama's “Declassified” series, featuring the recruitment of the original 13 agents, and the missions that happened before G.I.JOE #1.

Such a missed opportunity. And yes, it's stupid to not have a crossover movie with Transformers.

So... GI Joe Renegades?

The company also has big plans to team up with Paramount again on movies featuring a rebooted G.I. Joe with a revamped look intended to appeal to younger audiences.

The action-figure line was turned into a movie in 2009, with a sequel four years later. Both "G.I. Joe" movies were modest box-office successes and didn't generate the level of global appeal as the "Transformers" movies.

“The world has changed, and I think you’re going to see G.I. Joe changing with it,” he said. “There’s going to be a much more contemporary approach to the whole franchise, and that will allow us to develop different characters.”

Davis added: “We hope to create a head snap. It’s a different kind of ‘Joe’ — one that still resonates with ‘Joe’ fans but brings in an uninitiated audience and expands the audience internationally and domestically.”

If all goes as planned, the cinematic universe will eventually incorporate characters from other popular Hasbro properties including ROM, Micronauts, Visionaries and M.A.S.K.

Pretty obvious they were going to start from scratch considering the sequel news has been dead for a while though

At the same time i hope they keep Ray Park and The Rock on board.

Will be surprised if they still go forward with it, but we shall see.

This Cinematic Universe is probably gonna fail just like Dark Universe. I'd be surprised if the reboot does better than the last two films.
