Gods & Men: The Ancient Myths RPG: Chapter 1 OOC Thread

Any and all questions can be addressed to me, via IM or PM, or just by yelling for me here in this thread. Enjoy, I've worked hard on this.

Hey, what's that? Another new rules revision! Amazing!

G&MRPG said:
Whenever a new race becomes playable the racial traits created for them will be listed here for all to see. Certain, high-powered beings are available as playable characters, and these are known as Advanced Races, where as the standard races are known as Basic Races. Only one member of each Advanced race is playable at a time, and they include dragons, demons, celestials (i.e. angels), liches, vampires, and others. A short list of other examples is at the bottom of this post, but there are other races that may apply and the list will change over time.

Advanced Races include: beholders, illithids, powerful undead (liches, vampires, mummies, etc.), demons, dragons, celestials, other planar creatures (slaadi, genies, etc.), elementals and sphinxes.

BTW, this was planned for a while, we've just gotten around to putting it into motion.

Gods & Men: The Ancient Myths RPG: SEASON I

Screen Name: Superferret

Character you have created (include known alias or nicknames here as well): Falzur, bronze dragon

Race/Culture: Bronze Dragon

Racial Traits: Wings of the Wyrm (Being possessed of immense wings, bronze dragons are able to take to the air and fly for great periods of time), Aquatically Inclined (Bronze dragons spend much of their time swimming and hunting beneath the waves, and are able to breathe and use all of their racial traits while submerged), Dragon’s Breath (Bronze dragons have two breath weapons; one, a 100’ line of lightning; and a cloud of magical gas that compels those caught in it to move away from the dragon), Polymorph (Bronze dragons are able to change their form at will to appear as a man or mundane animal), Friend of Beasts (Bronze dragons are able to communicate with animal as they would any other being), Creature of Lightning (Bronze dragons are immune to the effects of lightning and lightning based attacks), average lifespan is 1,500 years

Character Class (Somewhat similar to the classes in the CAH RPG, but with some differences) (Choose One): Mystic (Druid)

Patron Deity (only required for those under the Paladin heading or those who are a priest, cleric, or other divine agent; others may choose one if they wish to flesh out their character more): Bahamut, patron god of good dragons

Magic: Mastery in Druidic Magic, Minor skill in Water Elemental magic and Protective Magic

Speech Color and/or Font: Bold Dark Orange Palatino Linotype

Character Alignment (Good/Evil/Neutral): Good

Character Personality (Give information on how your character acts, what he/she believes in, how they handle situations): Falzur is kind and wise, naturally taking on a custodial manner towards those he sees as being “in his care” (which usually means all weaker good and neutral characters that he meets); he values knowledge greatly and loves to act as a teacher to those willing to learn from him; knowing the panic the ‘lesser races’ tend to have when faced with a dragon, Falzur spends much of his time in human form, only revealing his dragonhood to those he trusts completely; Falzur is a loyal companion, and while he usually balks at taking even an evil beings life, he will fight viciously to defend those he cares for

Origin Info/Details (don't be blunt, be as thorough as possible): Just reaching adulthood after living out his first century, Falzur made his way north and east away from the Caribbean Sea where he was whelped and raised. After exploring most of Europe and finding most of it lacking, he finally came upon the Isle of Man. Mostly uninhabited by humans, it was the perfect roost for the dragon. This was nearly a century ago, and he has since taken to remaining in human and animal form while not in his hoard lair, which is located underground accessible only through an underwater tunnel Falzur himself dug. Due to his years of undercover existence, the presence of a dragon became something of a myth among the humans who live in the villages near the Isle, a bit of misinformation that Falzur himself likes to spread. He considers himself ruler of the Isle and dwells in Peel Castle, which he had discovered there abandoned by it’s former owners when he arrived.

Attributes : (Note: These figures are for Falzur’s dragon form only, in his other assumed form he is physically average for that race/species)

Strength Level: Much stronger than a man (Able to lift 80 tons)

Speed/Reaction Timing Level: Land speed of 50mph, Air speed of 100mph; Quicker than a man (reaction time)

Endurance at MAXIMUM Effort/Durability: Much higher endurance than a man (Able to sustain activity for a few days)

Agility: Average Human (Dragons are large and bulky and therefore aren’t very agile)

Intelligence: Super-Genius

Fighting Skill: Trained (Due to their devotion to their arts, Mystics and Psions cannot be Experts or Masters, and Minstrels cannot be Mastered)

Resources: Extreme (Dragons like to sleep on huge piles of treasure that they hoard)

Notable Equipment: His main hoard has many different items, including magical and mundane treasures, none of which he’ll use himself. He also has a minor hoard, located in his castle for use on all the many goods he stocks it with.

Weaknesses (If your character has any specific weakness, such as a vampire's weakness to sunlight (among other things) or a Faerie's weakness to iron, list them here): Not a physical weakness, but Falzur’s love of nature and of justice can be used against him by his enemies.

Supporting Characters (Does your character have a significant other? A mother? A Friend? Who are they, what do they have to do with your character?): Falzur spends much of his time alone, wandering his Isle, the animals and plants being his only true friends. He is however, very hospitable and will open his castle to any visitors, be they of the good alignment.

Describe using proper English grammar what you think you can bring to the RPG: Other than the fact that I helped make this game possible, my RPG history shows that I’m adept at taking highly powered beings and showing their human side. coughSupermancough

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: As much as the situation allows.

Do you know how to post pictures on the hype boards: Yes

Sample Post (Minimum Four decent-sized paragraphs containing dialogue):

“Hhhmmpph…” Idstugg the frost giant grunted as he trudged through the forest, his troop of 19 other frost giants following him. They’d just left Peel Castle, an old Viking stronghold, now the dwelling of a rich man who had decided to make the castle and the Isle his own. The giants had stayed there for the night, and had eaten all the man’s food, and drunk all the man’s mead, ale and wine. Idstugg almost chuckled remembering the man’s near-pathological need to be hospitable to them, even as he suffered many abuses by their hand.

Idstugg turned to his men and barked out, “Remember, when we get back to the others, we won’t have time to be stopping and resting. We’re gathering the whole band and we’re marching on that castle.” The assembled giants roared with approval, and continued their march towards their boats at the shore. This island will be the most appropriate staging ground for raids on the rest of the British Isles.

“Now then, Idstugg,” came a soft voice from the trees, “that’s not very appreciative of my hospitality.” A small (in relation to the giants, he was in fact six and a half foot tall) deeply tanned human with long reddish-blonde hair stepped out into the path of the giants. “I opened my home to you, gave all I could give, and you plan to thank me by pillaging the rest of my belongings?”

“This island will be ours, human. Peel Castle will once more house my brethren.”

The tanned man laughed, “Nay giant, this Isle is mine, and if you wish to bring war upon it, then it shall bring war upon you.” The man waved his hands, magically reaching out to the very trees and plants surrounding the giants. They had little time to react before the nearby branches, vines, even the grass beneath their feet thickened, lengthened and constricted their limbs and torsos, entangling them. Idstugg flexed his great muscles against the branch that held him fast, but was distracted by a sickening scream as a hundred blades of enhanced grass tore the left arm off of a giant near the back of his party.

Bellowing with rage, fear and grit determination, Idstugg shattered the branch that held him, and three other giants, and they hacked and bludgeoned their way free of the entangling plants, liberating two more of their number as they did. The five other giants began to flee towards shore, but Idstugg charged the tanned man, his mighty battle axe raised high. The man deftly side-stepped the blow and dove head first into a nearby tree, disappearing into the bark the way a fish moved through water. Idstugg smashed the tree to splinters in anger.

“Do not assume me to be slain, Idstugg.” The man’s voice seemed to come from everywhere, and was louder than even the screams of pain from the still trapped, and now dying, giants. “I’d suggest fleeing for your lives, because trees and grass are the least of the island’s warriors, and the whole battalion is after you.”

With the new rules, Charaun will have 4 points in necromancy and 2 in phantasmal.

We should update the magical school selections for all magic characters, and have it listed in the first post. Anyone playing a magic user, post your changes or if you're not changing, post "not changing".

I'm confused with the point system for magic.

So Mystics get 4 pts, Ministrels get 2, Paladins get 1, and Spellswords get 1? And if you are an advanced race you get 2 more pts to use in the slots?

I thought you said you can only have 1 type of magic to know. Doesn't this conflict with that old statement if you say Mystics and Ministrels, with more than 1 pt can use their other pts anywhere else? Typo? Or is this a new rule.

It's the new rule on magic. Gone is the only knowing one type. Now you decide which schools your character will know, though the more you know the weaker it will be.

Okay. But for the sake of being more informed...shouldn't the minor, moderates, and mastery for different types of Enchantment be seperated? Since there are 2 types.

That's Ferret's call to make as he's the magic man. I'm sure you'll get an answer from him today though.

I was actually debating on making them seperate schools when I first started the magic system, but I decided to keep them as one. I'll go edit it now, and have it that any magic user with skill in enchantment can use both types.

Is a Merman an advanced character? Would they fall into elementals?

Elementals are creatures made out of one of the four elements.

Can there be elementals of the Chinese elements Wood and Metal as well?

Hmmm.... I'll converse with Johnny on it, the existing elementals all have ties (and originate from) the Elemental Planes, but I don't see why we wouldn't allow Wood or Metal Elementals (though they'd be restricted to only hail from China).

I've made mention to quasi-elementals in the Planes write ups (Magma, Ice, Steam, etc), so I see no problem with wood or metal. Metal would be linked to the earth, and wood could be classified as a quasi-earth elemental as well.

wow, this thing has gotten well complex, i'm trying to keep up through the OOC and IC, but it's pretty tricky.

What do you have questions about Cyrus?

It just seems like a lot of the elements are very precise and refined, which is necessary to keep characters balanced etc, but does make it a little hard to fully understand.

Magic for example, I really like how you've structured it and everything, but there is a lot to take in before stepping into this RPG etc.

I'll try to get an app up I think, but I'm gonna need to study everything in a little more detail first, but just a taster for you guys, here's a picture of my intended character, just so you get an idea:

Yeah, it is a tad complex, but trust me, me and JB are pretty nice guys (maybe not Johnny, what with all the evil..) and we'll be happy to answer any questions and clarify any issues (although Johnny may ask for your soul or something, again, because of the evil).

Yea I noticed that on my second post. They put a lot of thought into this RPG. :oldrazz:

We put a month of work into this game, and it's still being tweaked and fiddled with as we go along, so yeah, a whole lot of thought went into this game.
