:lmao:

There might be quite a few criticisms to level at Godzilla '14, but comparing it to Emmerich's doesn't even fall within the realm of reason.

It was terrible. One of the worst movies I've ever seen actually. It's been a long time since I've seen the 98 movie so forgive me but honest to god I can't say with confidence this one was better. At best they are both flaming piles of s*** that I never intend to watch again.

10 minutes of fun and carnage didn't make up for the near 2 hours of boredom and frustration.

It's not gonna have massive legs a la the big G himself due to X-Men and possibly even Maleficent and Million Ways to Die in the coming week or so, but it may do well enough.

I think the X-Men movie is going to bomb. Whenever the trailer shows up, people all around me snicker, and are like, "another one? Do people even care anymore?"

Curious, Skrilla... do you like ANY movie other than Superman '78?

You are horribly wrong. It is tracking immensely high. Whether it makes serious bank is down to word of mouth, but it has a glorious chance of having the biggest op wkd of the summer yet.

Come on man don't.

Loved Cap 2.
Loved Spidey.

Was feelin great about this summer. 2 for 2.

Was really lookin forward to Godzilla as well.

But man, I thought it was REALLY bad.

Again from a pure entertainment perspective the 98 version was a whole lot more fun to watch. It was bad yes, but this one was painfully boring and a movie I never plan on watching again.

You thought the 98 Godzilla film was entertaining? Interesting, I thought it was terrible and mostly boring.

I haven't seen the new one so I will not comment on it.

If it's on tv, I might turn to it for a second. More entertaining than this movie? Yes. No question.

Overall I liked the film. I think what bothers me the most is the trailers gave an impression of the film that simply didn't pan out, at least for me. I think they did great with Godzilla but I found myself being annoyed by Cranston when I thought I would be sympathetic. ATJ had this "I don't care" attitude throughout the entire thing which was off putting.

But, by far, the thing that frustrated me the most is Godzilla playing a supporting role. It just wasn't what I was expecting...BUT, they nailed
him in every way I had hoped for.

I liked it, I just didn't love it...and I really thought I would.

I really don't understand how anyone can think this movie was boring...

There are ridiculous amounts of action and dramatic tension, even excluding the final 20 to 30 minutes.

- The nuclear plant collapse
- The flying MUTO hatching
- Flying MUTO eating the submarine nukes/Godzilla tsunami/MUTO on the train/Godzilla reveal
- Female MUTO discovery/attack on LA
- Female MUTO confrontation with the bomb train
- MUTO mating ritual in San Fran
- Godzilla at the Golden Gate bridge
- The Halo jump
- Godzilla vs. the MUTOs (for like 20 minutes!!)

Like...what do you people want?!?!

I'm just baffled.

So much this (although there's a lot of MUTO there, which I'm sure some people would have liked a little more godzilla action in the 2nd act. I enjoyed the suspense and build up to the incredible ending though)

The HALO Jump was one of the most beautiful things I've seen on screen in awhile. The score during that sequence was amazeballs too. Reminded me of Dante's Inferno, a descent into Hell.

Gyorgy Ligeti's Requiemis best known from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: Space Odyssey, yeah that song is great.

Yup, probably my favorite scene of the movie. Along with godzilla's first reveal,
godzilla's atomic breath finishing kill
, and the china town roar scene.

Yeah, I thought that too when I saw the first trailer and the film itself.

People are going to whine and cry if they don't get action for 99.5% of the movie or its boring to them. Whatever.

I'm not sure what the blast radius of a megaton nuclear bomb is supposed to be, but personally I'm tired of nuclear bombs as a movie plot device to create artificial suspense. It's overused.

Maybe Godzilla woke up under a different tower, but the way it was presented was weird, it was implied he fell unconscious from the office tower falling on him, and we see him waking up under an office tower the next morning

While also getting rid of the nuke everything plot device can we also chuck the incompetent military that won't listen to the scientist....i think that's gotten used way too much

I can understand the frustrations from some movie-goers, but I didn't find the movie to be boring at all.

In my personal opinion, I think that people, as a whole, have created an "Age of Instant Gratification" of some sorts. The internet is faster, we don't have to deal with commercials on TV or the radio anymore, we have cell phones (which have turned into mini computers), etc ... We get everything delivered to us instantly. It has even gotten to a point where movie trailers tend to show everything before you get to see the movie. And big blockbuster movies tend to throw everything at you at once nowadays. Instant gratification.

This new movie does have a slower pace, and the movie makes you wait until the end before it delivers the goods. I can see how this kind of thing wouldn't be compatible with our current age. A few weeks ago, I actually got into a debate with a 40 year-old man about Rocky. HE thought the movie aged horribly since movies move so fast nowadays, and here I am, at 27 years-old, defending Rocky. Amazing.

I mean, I'm not insulting people if they didn't like this movie, and I can see why some don't like the film ... But I think the way movies are made nowadays may have affected some opinions.

By the way, lots of people compliment the 1954 Godzilla movie. To this day, people consider that to be THE single best Godzilla movie. Gareth Edwards said over and over that the 1954 film was his biggest influence/inspiration when making his Godzilla movie ... And Godzilla was in that movie for slightly over 15 minutes? I honestly don't see how people are so surprised by this new movie and the amount of time that Godzilla had in it.

On a side note.. i'd hate to see any film where people were "cheering and applauding".. I get pissed off when I can hear folks reaching in for popcorn.

I always chuckle when people say that's what happened, especially when its for a movie where the audience at mine was silent the entire time. Typically those "cheer" moments are universal for Americans if the movie actually has them to begin with.
