That was one thing the movie did get right.

Did you even watch the movie?

Reiterated from my review, I have one question about the plot:
At the end, when the larger female Muto is closing in on the nuclear weapon, Godzilla comes and kills the larger muto. But we had just seen Godzilla collapse unconsciously below an office tower he destroyed, and in the next day Godzilla wakes up below that rubble, half of San Francisco removed from the docks. So, was it a separate Godzilla who killed the larger muto? I don't know, I think so.

I was confused by this editing as well, and didn't even factor in that it could be another godzilla. I don't think it is though. I'm thinking he just mustered up the strength to get to the muto to kill it, and the next day I figured he was where he was because of the bomb going off

So he went back halfway across San Francisco to the same skyscraper and lifted all the rubble and covered himself with it?

Saw it a second time. Even better. Crowd cheered again, which I wasn't expecting!

I feel sorry for the people that don't see the almost expertly delivered monster movie I and others see.

Easily the best movie of it's kind since Jurassic Park.

Off to see this very soon. I'm excited. I've only seen the trailers, and can't wait for that finale I keep hearing about.

Godzilla presumably got up to go kill the female MUTO, then was shown collapsing again in the distance afterwards from Ford's POV. That's where everybody finds Godzilla the next day.

order of events as shown in the movie

1) Godzilla kills male MUTO by tailing him into an office tower, office tower falls on Godzilla and knocks him unconscious.

2) Godzilla then kills female MUTO, half of San Francisco away.

3) Godzilla wakes up under office tower rubble the next day.

I figured he either started walking back towards the city or the force from the bomb knocked him over there, not necessarily in the same exact spot he was before. Was it the exact same spot/skyscraper where he was before? I don't get how the bomb they were using supposedly made the 1954 one seem like a "firecracker". It didn't seem like it made it that far out in the ocean before detonating. Wouldn't it have taken out pretty much everyone plus the helicopter ford was in?

I still can't get over that shot of Godzilla
breathing his radioactive breath down that MUTO's throat

So good. The kid inside me was doing cartwheels... and I ****ing hated doing cartwheels.

I'm not sure what the blast radius of a megaton nuclear bomb is supposed to be, but personally I'm tired of nuclear bombs as a movie plot device to create artificial suspense. It's overused.

Maybe Godzilla woke up under a different tower, but the way it was presented was weird, it was implied he fell unconscious from the office tower falling on him, and we see him waking up under an office tower the next morning

BOX OFFICE: ‘Godzilla’ Crushes It: $98M+

The Lizard is leaping. After the morning dust has cleared, Godzilla showed a stronger than expected Friday late night take of $38M+ and is now estimated to haul in $98M+ after the three-day weekend. And with incredible international numbers continuing to roll in, Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures has a monstrous hit on their hands. Late night numbers pushed it past $36M and surprised everyone this AM.

I'm glad about the positive numbers, I hope this paves the way for a sequel.

I got back from this last night and honestly I'm not even sure if it was better than Godzilla 98.

I never thought Godzilla would have such a massive opening weekend. I guess that's what a great marketing campaign can do for a film.

I don't see how Iguana 98 could even be mentioned in the same breath with this film.

:lmao:

There might be quite a few criticisms to level at Godzilla '14, but comparing it to Emmerich's doesn't even fall within the realm of reason.

O_O

The people are ready for more. I'm astonished it took as long as it did for another Godzilla movie to come out...I mean it's like 15 years?

Man, this movie isnt perfect, but I cant even compare it to Godzilla 98.

I really hope this breaks 100m barrier, and WOM is good. I want a Godzilla movie every 2-3 years.

Im just getting into the old films and the comics and Im becoming a Godzilla nut and my wife's getting freaked out.

15 or 10 years, depending on how well you followed the Japanese movies. Ironically, a lot of the complaints about this movie applies to Final Wars, which apparently divides the fan base. I liked it, as well as this movie.

Where was this marketing team for Pacific Rim...:csad:

I saw it last night, and I'm torn. I really did like it, but yet I feel there was about 15 minutes too much human drama in there. I'd still give it a solid 8/10.

It's weird though, there was a ton of visibly angry people leaving the theater, mostly complaining over the lack of Godzilla, and how it was way too much a movie about the military and such. I want this movie to really succeed, and it seems to be doing well, but I think word of mouth will make or break this, and if there are as many angry viewers like at my showing around the country, it could have a pretty negative effect.

Godzilla 2 doesn't have to accomplish much to be better than this movie, so let's hope for the best.

It's not gonna have massive legs a la the big G himself due to X-Men and possibly even Maleficent and Million Ways to Die in the coming week or so, but it may do well enough.

Good point. If nothing else, that's the silver lining. Then again...a recent sequel turned out to be a complete fiasco, so who knows?
