I complained when I actually saw the Cloverfield monster close up. He was a dufus. They should have just kept him hidden through to the credits. :woot:

I'm sorry but Cloverfield craps all over this movie.

we all know the real reason why [BLACKOUT]Godzilla woke up in the end and went back into the sea[/BLACKOUT] is so he could finish his Breaking Bad binge viewing marathon on Netflix!! :o

The amount of cheering at my screening today was enormous. I can't even remember the last movie that was able to rile up an audience so much. My screening was completely packed too. When I got out there was already a line forming for a screening that was over an hour away. The line was huge too.

I think it made it a little more emotional for our audience because it takes place here in the Bay Area. People cheered when the action got to Oakland and San Francisco.

Must be a local ....errr I mean hyperbole thing. My audience was dead silent throughout the entire film.

yeah.....

and did they also seem to suggest that there were other giant prehistoric monster species besides the Godzillas and the MUTOS?

I still see that giant fossil in the beginning as "Kaiju potential." There's a lot of potential from that alone...

but wasn't that a fossil of another Godzilla?

oh, and they did say that creatures like Godzilla, once the radiation on the surface decreased, went deep underwater or underground to feed on the radiation near the Earth's core.

that alone suggests that there could be other monsters deep underwater and underground.

I loved it, and had a total blast...but a bit more Zilla action wouldn't have hurt it. I'll definitely be picking it up on bluray, that's for sure. That Special Effects were glorious, as was the sound mix. Definitely gonna see it again for sure.

8/10

Considering a lot of Godzilla's enemies come from space (Gigan, King Ghidorah etc). I suppose it's not such a big issue.

I'm sure the next film will involve a meteor.

Or they could just use aliens who use monsters to attack Earth. Though I think that might be too reminiscent of Pacific Rim (even though Godzilla did it first).

I don't foresee an alien invasion any time soon. I do know, Edwards has mentioned Monster Island a lot when talking about sequels...

Let me also say that I thought Aaron Taylor Johnson did a fantastic job. I'm really perplexed as to why he turned so many people off.

If there IS gonna be a Monster Island and there will be 6 monsters (if that rumor is true), I would prefer if it was 3 classic/established (Godzilla included) and 3 new monsters.

I guess all of us that were turned off missed his subtleties.

yeah....I had no problem with him.

and Olsen!! :hrt::hrt::hrt::hrt:

I was, however, surprised by Cranston [BLACKOUT]dying so early on. I heard that he died, but I expected it to be much later.[/BLACKOUT]

how would you even do a Monster Island?

seems kind of farfetched that such a island, with big ass monsters, could exist without us being aware of it, especially with our modern technology.......

I don't think he did a bad job. I just think his character overstayed his welcome. The unnecessary train sequence, him somehow always being there when the kaiju fight (Japan, Hawaii, San Francisco, wherever that train sequence was). Him apparently being assigned to a mission (in a service branch that isn't even his) for no other reason than to keep him near the action.

I find it fascinating how two people can have such a drastically different experience. The dialogue written for ATJ was awful and it was exasperated because of how good Cranston was.

The government would probably have some major response.

I think this is another instance of being used to this kind of stuff because it was fairly common place in many of the films during the Heisei era. So I don't see it as unusual I suppose.

oh, like they've been somehow covering it up??

Indeed. Like if they would use MechaGodzilla, he might be saved for the final film so they could so how they've been working on this thing for years. Hell, even doing a Cyborg MUTO would work.

Oh, and can I just say Alexandre Desplat knocked it out the park with this film?

i enjoyed the soundtrack, actually... of course the original themes sound great, but for what it is, Desplat did very well

I was a little bummed that we didn't see any Maser Cannons used in this movie.

I loved how his score seamlessly blended with the sound design at times.:up:
