So, I wonder how good WOM will be. This has been a big hit with my friends. Some were even saying it had the best effects they've ever seen!

I think it's truly mixed. I love it. My parents loved it. It seemed to get very favorable reactions from the crowd in my second viewing. I didn't hate Spider-man or Captain America, but I don't exactly feel like I need to see them again. Godzilla, definitely planning on seeing it a few more times.

I know the audience's response to this movie has been overall mixed, but among my friends and the people I know, I've yet to hear a negative thing about it. Some of my friends and I went to see it on Friday afternoon, and all of us clapped and cheered. It was a good time. :)

Captain America is still easily my favorite blockbuster of 2014 so far, but Godzilla was a breath of fresh air for me after TASM2. It was exactly what I needed before checking out the rest of the Summer flicks. I'm excited for the Summer movie season now!

I am not giving my mere opinion on Godzilla. This film is objectively a POS.

Film can not be assessed objectively. It's art. That you dislike it is fine; I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with is that you trying to spin your opinion as an "objective truth". It's laughable and is incredibly condescending and egocentric.

I'm expecting a TASM2 style drop in the BO this weekend.

They just made up a bunch of sequences and a sloppy story and handed that in with a smile on their face. It borders on some form of blasphemy to compare Jaws, an amazing, Oscar winning masterpiece that invokes the most powerful elements of a Hitchcockian thriller, to a freaking kaiju disaster film that is filled with utter nonsense.

Preach it!

While I don't think that article will make me give the film a higher score, it certainly makes me appreciate the film more.

7/10.

less is more. i agree with everyone. less is more is the best aproach for a movie like this. they had enough godzilla moments in the movie. the problem is that the story with the humans was boring
after Cranson died.

Agreed. I'm not sure how old Arach Knight is, but I don't see how anyone could objectively talk about how good Michael Bay films are and call this film a POS.

Does anyone even remember the 1998 Godzilla? If you want to call a film a POS, that film would be first in line.

This film isn't perfect, and I alluded to that in my review. The film loses a lot of steam after Cranston [blackout] character is killed at the end of the first act [/blackout].

However for anyone who watched the original Godzilla or any of the Japanese Godzilla films, this is the perfect companion to those films.

I can understand if someone doesn't like the film, and I can understand why the word of mouth isn't spectacular (same Cinemascore rating as TASM2), but to me if you're doing a big budget Hollywood style Godzilla, this is the film that should be made.

I am not giving my mere opinion on Godzilla. This film is objectively a POS. One dimensional characters, nonsensical plot elements, unnecessary scene changes during high tension moments. I would not be surprised at all if this film becomes a case study in film theory on how not to direct a narrative. This film is worse than just being a poor Godzilla film. This film is worse than being a poor monster film. It is objectively a horrible movie. It is a failing of the entirety of the medium of film. That is how dreadful Godzilla 2014 is.

Speaking of nonsense, since opinions are subjective, you should erase the word objectively to be taken more seriously... another example of how different opinions can be, is Godzilla's RT score (73%): http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/godzilla_2014/

General consensus supports a lot of bad films bro.

Lol. Comparing the human scenes without the creature of Jaws and those of Godzilla 2014. Jaws is in my top 10 movies of all time. I never complain of the lack of shark screen time because the human scenes were real, dramatic, funny, tense, and emotional. I enjoy them as much as i enjoy the shark. Lots of people are complaining about lack of Godzilla because whenever Godzilla is not around, we have to endure characters like johnson's Brody.

Have to agree here. I like the Godzilla movie, but Jaws is a whole different level, and the comparisons are really bad. People also forget that the humans are actually battling the shark in Jaws. There is confrontation. In Godzilla, humans are bystanders, with almost no engagement.

James Rolfe aka the Angry Video Game Nerd, and a huge Godzilla fan, just saw this movie. His review was like this: he liked it and thought it was pretty good, and is happy that Godzilla is back, and says it's an American Godzilla that got it right, but personally he sees it as not a traditional Godzilla movie (aka rubber suit and from Japan) in his head,as well as feeling it's 16 years too late given the hyped now versus then with the '98 movie and American's POV of Godzilla.

However, he felt that the teasing was too much; it worked the first time at the airport, giving the fight a distant POV, but then they should've moved on from that idea with later appearances before the final fight. He didn't like the MUTOS because they were the Cloverfield monster again, and that Americans aren't creative with monster designs like Japan is (ex: Gigan, Biollante, Legion (from Gamera 3)), and didn't like that there was more MUTOS and less Godzilla in a Godzilla movie. Finally, he wants future films to experiment pass the grounded reality setting, and make the films unique in its universe (ex: time travel, or crazy fights and aliens (i.e. Final Wars)).

But in the end, he's happy, he likes it, and is ready and wants to see more Godzilla films. You can see the review here:

and that is a very fair review.

I pretty much agree with this entire post.

I think it's ridiculous to state one's own opinion as "objective" or "fact." Of all things to be arrogant about, someone's getting arrogant over a movie? Mkay.

I liked it the first time I saw it (even with the infuriating tease moments).

The second time was AWESOME!!

For some reason i enjoyed the second view much more.

Weird uh?

I'm a big fan of James Rolfe's. Despite the AVGN persona, the guy seems really chill in real life, haha. :)

I don't agree with every point he made in his review, but I can totally see where he's coming from. This is a very fair review. He's always given fair reviews about movies, honestly.

I do agree that the sequels should tap more into the crazy stuff though, especially since Godzilla isn't painted as a straight-up villain in this franchise now.

Up from the depths!
30 stories high!
mumble mumble mumble (forgotten the words)
GODZILLA! GODZILLA! GODZILLA!

...and GODZUKI...

Where the heck was Godzuki in this movie?! :cmad:

saw it, liked it. they nailed it...it was like godzilla begins...a very good introduction and up to date version. there is no character development and i didnt expect any what so ever. i went to see godzilla and they delivered. each scene was very well shot. now i just wonder how they go on with this...im looking forward and maybe i go see it a second time. things like that you gotta see on a bigscreen ...too bad we aint got an imax that show such movies.

Ive been a fan of Godzilla since I was 8, this movie was ridiculously disappointing. People go see Godzilla movies to see him wreak havoc and fight monsters, 90% of this movie wasn't that. When Godzilla was on screen I loved it but unfortunately thats a tiny part of the movie.

100% agree. Pretty much word for word how I felt about the movie right down to the only thing I enjoyed being the first use of the flame breath.

He enjoyed the second use of GZ's radioactive breath...
