Godzilla vs Kong (2021)

:hehe:

what I liked about that was:

They don't do anything in the movie of consequence. The film plays out the exact same way if they are never in it. He had to "save their lives", because they are all idiots. And he didn't even do that.

I feel like you have to really try to be this damn sloppy lol.

8/10

I enjoyed it. I think it was the most action packed of the 4 films so far. Didn’t care much for the human characters but that’s ok because all that matters is Kong, Godzilla, and any of the other monsters that pop up. Hopefully the movie does well enough for more sequels especially now there’s an entire new world to explore in the Hollow Earth

Saw this on HBO Max and made me wish I could have watched in theaters. Might have to be watch once more but in theaters

I live 10 minutes from an AMC (with Dolby Cinema) that's open and playing this, so went ahead and got tickets for this Friday. No way I'm watching on my TV at home!

I just watched this and... not very impressed.

This really goes into crazy fantasy territory, especially with Hollow Earth. Any sense of realism (at least compared to 2014 Godzilla) is gone. You have spaceship-like pods flying into inverted gravity :funny:

The human characters are boring as usual, but there is something wrong with the fights here as well.

Godzilla has been re-sized to match Kong. Any sense of scale and weight is gone. The final fight with
Mechagodzilla
wreaking havoc looks like a Power Rangers movie and a giant toy commercial. What was with those quick moves and hits? It looked like the fights in Pacific Rim: Uprising. Gone is the feeling of thousands of tons foot stomping at the airport from '14 Godzilla. Everything felt as light as paper.

My worst fear from the trailer (CGI) also proved right. The night HK fight looked really cool, but all the day scenes (specifically with Kong) looked like a PS4 cutscene. Kong's hair didn't have texture to it like, for example - '05 Kong.

6/10.

For anyone wondering about the other Titans from KOTM and what happened to them. Spoke to my buddy @itsryanunicomb who worked on the film. He said we will be finding out what happened to them. I asked if we will find out in future films or other canon like comics, and he just said “yes”.

Ryan is a super reliable dude and in the business so just passing along this info from when I spoke to him today.

I enjoyed this, even though it was dumb AF. Like all kaiju movies, I think you just have to kinda turn your brain off and enjoy the carnage. Like the opening scene when Godzilla decimates that Apex facility and it says that only EIGHT people were killed, lol.

The hollow earth stuff was a surprise; I enjoyed that aspect of it simply because I grew up reading Jules Verne novels and it gave the human characters something interesting to do besides run away from the monsters. I wasn’t expecting for that aspect of it to turn into a full scale fantasy epic though, with Kong finding a hidden temple and a magic ax. Maybe I missed a scene where he also picked up an Elder Scroll down there.

I don’t really mind the character assassination of Godzilla here; previous movies almost tried to gloss over the destruction that he, himself causes while focusing on the deaths that other monsters cause. But I don’t see how anyone, after this movie, would look at Big G as a savior again.

The human characters were fine, I guess... Eleven, Paperboy and Deadpool 2 Kid didn’t really have any impact on the overall plot but I mostly enjoyed their adventure. I also mostly liked Skarsgard, Hall and the little girl, though they all could have done a bit more. Coach Taylor must have only come back because he was contractually obligated too. Gonzalez, Reddick and Bichir were totally wasted.

As for the whole third act... introducing that character was stupid but I guess if you’re going to do it, that was the most... realistic way? LOL. If you try and rationalize the dumb **** that happens in this movie it will probably make your head explode. Just sit back and enjoy it, I guess.

One last thing, for all you “Snyder Cut” review bombers out there. This movie was nonsensical and moronic. But it’s still better written, better looking, better acted and better directed than your four-hour mess.

7/10

Odd thing to add to your review when most SHH users here who like the Snyder Cut are nothing like those hardcore cultists, but whatever helps you sleep at night and disrespect subjectivity I guess.

Can you speak for all of them? Something like that takes a lot of trolls pull it off. And even if absolutely no one here is like that, Snyder Cultists did it and made it part of the conversation. So it’s relevant here.

Nope, and I shouldn't. I've made a few amount of posts criticizing that part of the fanbase already. But you used the term 'your' which made me think you're trying to attack some folks here who happened to enjoy it. Might be misreading it, but that's how it came across.

Easily the worst of the four films when it comes to human characters but the best when it comes to action. Godzilla’s size being reduced was also a sore point for me, but I understand why they did it.

At this rate, I’m so glad these films are coming out on HBO Max because so far, if I paid to see any of these movies in theaters, Judas and the Black Messiah would be the only good one.

Not all, or even most of them. Just any of the ones who came for this movie (or any movie) before they even saw it.

Oh come on man, you know that MORTAL KOMBAT will be better than all of them. :o

Watched this last night and enjoyed it. Was hoping for a bit more Godzilla, but overall was entertained. I watched it late as I was "pre-screening" it for my kids so I couldn't have the volume up all that loud therefore I missed most of the human dialogue which turns out wasn't that impactful. I was able to follow along without a problem lol

Question...at what point in the monsterverse did Godzilla go from Villain to Anti-hero?

He has pretty much been an anti-hero since the first movie. They rely on him to take down the MUTOs. Though after this movie, I think people would view him as a villain. But if they make another one of these I bet they’ll gloss over the thousands of people he killed in this movie lol (I’m sure we would see a body count of like 26 people in Hong Kong during a news report in the opening scenes lol).

Entertaining movie, basically every scene involving Kong and Godzilla held my interest, and all the fight scenes were superb.

The plot and human characters were all throw away, the titans nailed it. That's all that matters.

What they have gotten right with the MonsterVerse are the titans. Their movements, facial expressions, fight choreography, sound effects, etc. I mean Godzilla's roar sends chills down my spine everytime!

This movie wouldn't have worked had they not done such a good job with the two alpha titans in previous movies. They built a great foundation with the monsters and it all paid off here. Well done.

Did they even try to explain how there’s apparently so much sunlight down in the center of the earth? I don’t mind it but I’m just curious if they bothered to give some silly explanation and I missed it.

I also wrote the first act of Godzilla: King of the Monsters while all of that was going on, but that was one where once Mike Doherty came in, he’s a writer-director, so he took it in his own direction. So some of the story stuff remained, but I had a lot less involvement in that film.

It’s funny, because in my draft, I had written Mechagodzilla into the film, and I was pretty stoked about the potential there.

Max Borenstein's KOTM draft had Mechagodzilla in it. Sadly I couldn't find any more details.

Do we really need to inject pro or anti Snyder discussion into every topic? Like seriously, the review bombing thing doesn't even matter now. It has been taken care of and the movie is out. Can we as fans please move on? Like seriously, some of us are beyond tired of this us vs them garbage, and making this an issue is only being done to provoke people.

Crap like this is making me very tired of this place in general. Movies are not fun to discuss anymore. All anyone wants to do now is whine about other fans. So frigging annoying. When I joined in 2004, I came here to chat with people about Spider-Man 2 and find people like me. I never wanted to come on exclusively to crap on other people in unrelated threads where no one was making fans an issue.

Movies used to be fun
