Godzilla vs Kong (2021)

Just hope this doesn't mean they're panicking and proceed to reshoot the heck out of the movie.

We've seen the results the last time that happened.

That's exactly what it means. Reshoots to make the "humans more interesting" and will lead to something disjointed. But critics and audiences will notice (though they don't always care... gives a slight side-eye to Captain Marvel).

I still wanna see this despite how bad the new Godzilla was. The Jap version of Kong vs. Godzilla was one of my favorite early showa Z films.

I love how they didn't learn their lesson from the BvS debacle. Maybe wait to see how a film performs before starting production on a sequel.

There were license issues, though. Not only Toho, but I would think Universal's license was also up in 2020.

I think they had the schedule set when Godzilla KOTM was still supposed to be released in summer 2018. Once that got pushed back, they most likely still went full steam ahead with Godzilla vs. Kong for 2020 because of the rights from Toho expiring. The way I see it, I don't think them pushing it back will make a difference in regards to box office returns. All things considered, it probably won't be as much of a disaster as Dark Phoenix.

I just hope that they won't get cold feet and back-track on what they've done so far, leaving us with a Frankenstein monster of a final cut.

Because whatever happens box office wise, we'd still get a four-movie "MonsterVerse" franchise. Which is good enough. These things don't need to go on for twenty years and the MCU doesn't need to become the standard of modern blockbuster filmmaking. Not in the slightest.

I also find it troublesome how studio execs talk about how they need to limit their output to tentpole pictures only. The modern audience need to be re-educated to move their butts into theaters seats even for movies which don't feature explosions and CGI.

If TV and home video didn't kill the movies, I SURE AS HELL hope that streaming won't. As much as I like streaming, I'm starting to hate it.

So, release date may move. Likely meaning heavy reshoots. Great

The statement doesn't really bug me. When addressing a movie that didn't perform as well as expected, "This was made for the fans, and they loved it!" has rapidly lost any sort of credibility it once had as an excuse.

I do wonder what they could possibly reshoot at this point though.
Yeah that's where I'm at. I don't know how much they can change. ARe they gonna reshoot all the non action human scenes to give them more personality?

Idk. I'm not saying this will be bad, but I don't have a good feeling about pushing back the release date.

That's not really my point.

I get your point.

But movies on the big screen aren’t going anywhere.

For every underperformance, another comes along and surprises everybody at the box office.

Moving this out of March I think would be a huge mistake. Kong did well in March. KotM moved out of both a November and March date and sandwiched itself into a crowded summer. Don't make the same mistake here. March lately has proven to be a solid BO month in recent years. Use it!

There really isn't any safe spot anything except January and maybe September. You're always gonna have major competition at least 2 weeks before you or after you

Telling WB not to panic when one of their films under a cinematic universe franchise bombs is like telling a kid not to steal from the cookie jar.

I'm very much expecting GvK to go through massive reshoots at this point, making the final product look absolutely disjointed and non-pleasing to anyone. I am that pessimistic right now because of what went down with Justice League.

I agree 1000% with Mendelson's words. Learn from "Justice League"! Throwing money at something, only to come up with a Frankenstein monster of a movie will do nothing. Who's not interested won't show up anyway, and who was interested in Adam Wingard's "Godzilla Vs. Kong" might end up not going bc he's sick and tired of stitched-together who-knows-whats. I know I am. And if they heavily retool it, I might consider sitting the next one out in theaters. Leave it alone.

And by the way, I really think that studios should cut back on the quantity of huge blockbusters being made per year. Be smart. Teach the audiences to get used to smalller-scale movies once again. Blumhouse knows what he's doing. If I were a studio head, I would steal TV's current talent pool, with a huge cry for help: Ideas. Please!

They're not the only ones, unfortunately. But Kevin Tsujihara didn't help the studio. He pretty much single-handedly started running it into the ground, deciding to follow Disney's footsteps by only focusing on big budget tentpoles, and greenlighting questionable reboots such as "Pan," "Tarzan" and "King Arthur" just to have more franchise fuel.
