Im not saying, and I'm pretty sure I never said, WB shouldn't have shown anything. Or even that they should've been let off the hook for poor marketing. I've actually said for a minute now that WB marketing has been mediocre to trash for their movies. That's not the point of what I said at all.Nah, WB shouldn't be let off the hook that easily for not revealing anything concrete about this movie for a year and a half, even with Covid coming in.
See I'd agree on the first one. THey for sure shied away from the monster action. From an artistic standpoint I get what Gareth Edwards was doing, but that's not what people want from Godzilla. Sorry. Film consumption habits have changed and people don't wanna get teased for 2/3 of the movie like Jaws or Aliens anymore. On another note Edwards has to be one of the worst directors today imo when it comes to getting human emotion. Monsters, Godzilla 2014, and Rogue One all really suffered from crappy characters despite cool set up, plot, SFX, etc.The Robin Hood and King Arthur comparisons are SPOT ON. Everyone KNOWS Godzilla and King Kong. Does anyone actually care about them? I don’t really think so. There’s a reason why Hollywood has never really cracked a Godzilla movie even though it seems like a home run on paper. It’s similar to the Hulk problem. You can’t just have a whole movie that is Godzilla. There has to be a human story, but no one is actually there for the human story. The original film and Shin Godzilla are arguably the only films to actually have a human story worth telling and they are widely considered the best two films. That’s not a coincidence.
Having said all of that, I do think both of the Godzilla films in this series shied away too much from the monster action. KOTM had a lot more action than 2014, but it was almost all from the human’s perspective, which is not appealing if we don’t care about the characters. Just let me watch the big fella fight. Kong actually covered the monster fighting well.
I don't know. I'm still of the thinking that WB knew their blockbusters were gonna disappoint financially and that's why they were fine with this. Especially after seeing the mixed response to WW84. Unless HBO Max becomes Netflix huge over the course of the next 1-2 years I don't know how they can call it a success.Reviews will be reviews, but I do wonder what WB would deem a success with this theatrical/HBO Max release now that we can't rely on box office. Do we hear about another sequel being put into production with the same team? If we don't, is it a wash?
I mean, other than the usual, "We're very pleased with the results" a week after release which is par the course now.
This is "sequel" to Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King Of The Monsters... correct?

Goes both ways, bro

Why’s Skull Island first, chronologically?Yes. And obviously the chronological order is Skull Island, Godzilla, King Of The Monsters and now GvK.
Why’s Skull Island first, chronologically?
I’ve only seen ‘14 Godzilla, hoping to do a binge of all three soom.
