Godzilla vs Kong (2021)

Watch that spoiler end up being in the trailer tomorrow. That's what I hated about KOTM. They gave away everything in their trailers, TV spots and posters.
The first trailer for KOTM released over a year before the film came out! GvK releases in exactly two months....

They won't spoil anything in the trailer.

Rewatching KOTM and its still so good, its such a throwback to the Heisei era and I love it. Its a damn shame it didn't hit with audiences, the human story isn't that bad and it's grown on me having rewatched it a few times.

I also think this might be my favorite id the Goji designs, if he has a slightly larger head and arms it'd have been perfect.

IMHO it's not a great story but it's a far cry better than what we had in 2014. Once again, I don't get why KOTM was crapped on so much.

The score was the ONE great thing about KotM, imo. I doubt this one will live up to that, but we'll see. Junkie XL hasn't impressed me outside of Fury Road.

He makes noise. All I remember about his music is that it reminds me of throwing kitchen ware down the stairs. I have no recollection of the Fury Road score other than that there were motor sounds or something?

I generally agree on his sound, but I found the descending strings in Fury Road's score to be very effective and memorable.

Yeah the score by Bear McCreary for KOTM was pretty great and most importantly of all atleast somewhat memorable which is definitely something I can't say about the other Monsterverse films including Kong which I did enjoy more overall, but I honestly can't recall a single memorable piece of music from that movie even if my life depended on it. It definitely didn't deserve to get dragged through the mud as much as it did by critics, but it is what it is at this point and if it really was because of the human characters I don't see that changing with Godzilla V. Kong either just based on the bits of footage we've gotten so far, but I'm still excited for it and hoping for the best.

This is all a blur. I'm just not crazy about Fury Road like most people are so the lack of a memorable score doesn't help that.

It’s Sunday.... where’s the trailer! Lol jk... can’t wait tho still

Binged all three today... had only seen the 2014 film, before this.

Kong - Skull Island
[...4/5]
Godzilla
[...4/5]
Godzilla: King Of The Monsters
[3.5/5]

I really enjoyed Skull Island, really loved John C. Reilly’s character/story. The humanity of Kong came through, appreciated a handful of the other actors... but Brie/Tom were wasted, sorta useless. Thomas Mann was a highlight, really wished Goodman got more to do as well. Opening Credits were super rad.

Godzilla stood up pretty well... Olsen was wasted a bit, Aaron’s arc is pretty crazy considering he’s a “normal guy” who’s in the military, and I honestly came to terms with Cranston’s early exit. The build up of Watanabe being important is wonderful. Gareth really plays with visuals, special moments, and does interesting things to convey scale and the weight of the crazy action.

King Of The Monsters was ok... lacked the highlights of Edward’s visuals and vibe. Loved that Watanabe carried over, I always assumed he didn’t - his arc is beautiful. The “plot” was weird, especially concerning Dance. Enjoyed the wider group of Monarch folks, but thought the Russel family was merely fine. Don’t know if there should have been more monsters, but this director also didn’t have the flair Gareth showed... so maybe it wasn’t worth spending more time on more Monsters.

Overall, this series deserves more respect than it gets. It’s not as legendary as the latest Apes trilogy... but it’s beyond anything like the drivel that a Bay or Emmerich film presents at this scale.

Also, these three (and hopefully the fourth) films have more cohesive style and a stronger output that Snyder’s DCEU base of films and their off-shoots. Little things like the opening/closing credits and nods to the other films are just more rewarding and worth enjoying than most sprawling film series outside of the MCU high-bar, the fun Mission: Impossible’s, and classics like Friday The 13th/Fast & Furious.

What are the odds Kong & Godzilla won’t “team up” later in the movie to fight an even more menacing foe (Mecha Godzilla etc.)?

Hopefully it goes in a completey different direction to what we’re expecting.

They should do the opposite, team up to beat Mecha Godzilla early in the movie, then proceed to tear each other apart in the 2nd half.
There's a couple of ways It can go theoretically without losing the general idea of Godzilla and Kong fighting.

That's what I enjoy about versus films. No matter how obvious or who the winner is. You can never fully predict the actions and consequences of both parties. Like yeah ofc Cap was gonna beat Tony. It's CA3.

Ofc Freddy was gonna survive Jason. Both are immortal. That fight has no end.

Ofc Batman was gonna beat Supes. We've all seen the cartoons and comics.

But in the end? Do Ya know the plot that's gonna lead up to it? Or the order? Or the dialogue? Nope. There's over an hour of it prepped and ready to release. Unless a script leaks, the film is pretty much always gonna surprise you regardless.

Ghidorah returning in some form would make sense since the last film set it up.

Another possibility is them having to fight Monarch and/or the military. Now that Serizawa is dead Monarch may not be humane or friendly towards Godzilla.

KOTM gave me the greatest Ghidorah performance of all time.

That Three Headed Golden SOB will never reach the same heights

Completely agree with these rating nearly. Personally I'd have to put KOTM at a 5/5. What it sacrificed in style and tone in made up for in substance and plot. The other two remain at a 4/5.

I'd have to say my list goes

KOTM
Skull Island
Godzilla

I'd agree that this does do better than the DCEU in terms of universe building and tone at least. And definitely is a breath of fresh air.

Still kinda mad the films didn't stick to well in the audiences. Maybe after GvK drops and people watch the movies in order they'll see the greatness and well get a late sequel or something.

Thanks for the responses.

Btw, do we know what time (EST/PST) the trailer is supposed to drop today? I don't see this mentioned by WB/Legendary anywhere unless I've missed.

Want to know the same!

Excited for the trailer. Considering 2021 will almost be a write-off as well in terms of films, looks like Godzilla vs. Kong and MK will be one of the few films I get hyped for.

Best guess we have is around 12pm EST, but that's a guess. They have never given a time or if this would be played during one of the big football games today or whatever their plan is.

Bear did to the OG theme justice but I think I prefer the score from 2014 Godzilla.
The opening credits track is awesome.

I'm excited to see the trailer. I watched the 2005 King Kong today on Apple TV. I hadn't seen it in 4K before. It looked good but the HDR was maybe a bit too bright sometimes. All the cgi hasn't aged well but Kong still looks great.
