Godzilla vs Kong (2021)

You might as well make the same argument with half of the Godzilla films that exist. Kind of hard to judge when there's barely anything we know about GvK other than that vague synopsis, but whatever. You do you. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't be silly. This is a corny excuse. Just like you can read a premise and think it sounds good, I can read it it and say it sounds kinda meh.

And yeah I can make that argument for half+ Godzilla movies that have been made. And that's why I think more than half of them are meh.

Yeah I’m not sure how this will feel different, and it runs the risk of being underwhelming after the carnage we just witnessed in KOTM. Everyone has been saying that Godzilla and Kong will ultimately team up against a bigger threat, and that makes sense. But it will be hard to top KOTM, at least in terms of scale.

Anyway, I hope we at least get some insights into what happened to Tom Hiddleston’s and Brie Larson’s characters. I doubt they are in the movie (and if they are, they will probably be portrayed by older actors) but I’d at least like to find out what happened between Skull Island and the first Godzilla movie.

Exactly

On your other point, I doubt we'll see their characters. Not like they made much of an impact in Kong

So from what I saw of set photos I think there's a decent chance this film will take place in a much more science fiction world, even more so than KoM which more or less had Avengers style helicarriers. I figure there's probably going to be some kind of mechs in this next movie.

According to one of the easter eggs in KOTM's end credits, Monarch is building a mechanical behemoth underneath Skull Island. Wonder who that might be wink wink.

I think it's possible to care where it's less about topping destruction and monsters and more upping the drama with the stakes and what's going on in the story and how exactly they're going to expand everything.

I'm pretty ****ing excited about this one.

I don’t know, people don’t go to Kaiju films for human drama.

I reckon just add the giant octopus and bam, billion dollars at the box office haha

Well... given KOTM's current box office, this will unfortunately be the last Monsterverse movie (unless it pulls a miracle and makes good money when it comes out).

I just hope the story feels conclusive without any teases for a potential future that most likely won't happen.

Knowing WB's track record of adjusting projects It wouldn't surprise me to hear about some re shoots going down soon to change the ending to be conclusive or maybe not even I mean why waste more money on another potential under performer.

I am not sure how much they can change, though. They would still have to adhere to whatever clauses exist in the Toho contract. My bet is if they alter anything, it will be less humans in the action and more monsters.

Well that's stupid on their behalf because that's gonna make the movie flop.

I just don't see them spending more money on this movie other than whatever the marketing ends up being I think they'll just live with the result on this.

I have no interest in finding out what happened to Brie Larson's character in Skull Island.

All she did was stand around taking pictures and look concerned.

It's all but confirmed at this point. Think about it.

You really think they paid for the Mecha Godzilla license solely for Ready Player One while also having a Godzilla film series?

He'll be used. It's pretty safe to say.

Good point. Hopefully he looks better than that one.

Can't wait to see how they're gonna explain/show Kong swimming off Skull Island.

He's a Titan, so swimming off the island won't be that hard for him.

I think I only just realized that Kyle Chandler is now in two separate King Kong movies.

I don't think the scale of the action is going to be a problem. If you frame it right and you have the monsters battling in the mountains just seeing these two monsters clash will be plenty exciting. Just imagine Kong Skull islands final fight but with Kong and Godzilla. You don't need cities to get a sense of scale and majesticness. If they shoot the scenes right they'll be fine. As long as they get their epic wide shots the action will be good.
