Grayskull: Masters of the Universe - Part 2

Agreed, the Prince Adam identity is so ingrained what He-Man is. The only pure non-Adam sources really are the bizarre minicomics that appeared to have been written by coked-up gay marmosets on typewriters, the early DC comics with blonde Teela that nobody really remembers and that incredibly successful, critically-acclaimed tour-de-force film with Dolph Lungren.

So yeah, the Prince stays.

Secret identity and the transformation are important parts of the character. Those are the parts kids like and relate to the best. Kids want to be able to transform and have access to super powers. It's exciting.

Would Power Rangers be exciting if they were just rangers all the time and didn't have to morph? No. Kids love that.

The people trying to eliminate these elements have not been able to make He-Man work and get this movie off the ground.

A man dressing up as a bat and calling himself Batman is ridiculous, but the material treats it seriously and makes it cool and dark. You have to embrace these things that make He-Man special otherwise there is no point in doing this thing. Just make something new and do it the way you want, but don't call it He-Man. Don't call it Masters of the Universe.

I think it's a result of the whole "Grim 'N Gritty" mentality we have now. MOS,TASM,the new FF- all banking on stripping away as much of the fun for angst.

Try as they may, detractors will never make He Man into "Conan in Space". It was a kiddie property that grew out of a toy line. It's supposed to appeal to kids first & foremost. I have no problem "maturing" it a bit more for a big budget feature, (even the original movie did that to an extent) but, you've got to be true to the original concept.

What does Grim-N-Gritty have to do with TASM of all things? They said it would be darker than the originals but I did not find that to be true at all. Secondly Thor doesn't transform into Donald Blake and he's really close to what He-Man is and should strive to be. Minus Kat Dennings, Earth and the Avengers.

The Prince Adam thing is a major part of all He-Man canon. As is the transformation.

Donald Blake was created by Stan and Jack in Journey in Mystery #83 the same issue as Thor. There have been other host for Thor in the comics but Blake is it.

It seems there's a misunderstanding, in the current comics Adam still uses the transformation to get his powers, the difference being everyone knows he's He-Man. They could do this in the movies instead of making everyone stupid for not realizing Adam and He-Man are the same person, unless they go with a teenager Adam like the 2002 series.

Thor has not had the Donald Blake identity for years, now most people don't care and the movies work fine without it, fans always resist change till they don't. ;)

No offence, but that sounds pretty lame. Why bother changing back to Adam,if everyone knows he's He-Man?

Saw the logo tweet... Okay, seems it's game on now. Let's see where this goes. Hopefully it's vibe is similar to the 2003 MOTU.

I don't think the comparison is the same.

He-Man and Thor are different characters. It's an alter-ego created by using a magical sword.

I still think the Price Adam alter ego is dumb. Maybe if the movie incorporates it, they'll find a way to change my mind. But all of these strong takes of "THE ALTER EGO MUST STAY OR IT'S NOT HE-MAN" just reeks of "Man-Spider" to me.

The word Masters has to be more grandiose, like the cartoon.

I wonder if they feel the need to incorporate the idea of He-Man's mom being from Earth. Even as a kid, it just seemed so random. There was never much made about it at all in the series. It was just this little piece of trivia in his background but it never affected the stories on the show.

I like the idea of Marlena Glenn, as it explains why Adam and Adora are special, as they are children of two worlds, but as with the 200X iteration, I could take it or leave it.

I do want talking dragons though.

What are you complaining for? It's the traditional look.
How would you have done if different?
:funny:
What?
It's not like I went on some rant about it.
I just said it looks boring....which in my opinion, it does.

Not that it really matters.

I don't think that tweet has anything to do with the movie. A few months back, it was confirmed a new cartoon is on the way. I think that tweet has to do with that.

That said, I'd love to be wrong.

I wouldn't mind a new cartoon.

A new cartoon? Regular TV series or straight to DVD features? And if it's a TV series how long will it take for the network(s) to kill it for not selling any toys?

I don't think a traditional broadcast cartoon is in the works. If there was a mass market for MOTU toys, I wouldn't be still buying them online for the past 6 years with a 30-40 day shipping time. A cartoon without product to push it isn't going to happen.

Indeed, Marlena could be the main character with that backstory, but it's just kind of…there. The existence of Earth doesn't really play into the story of He-Man, except in the '87 movie, which doesn't even have Marlena anyway. I honestly wonder if it was just a device to allow for pop-culture references in the show, like Adam could compare a game to "that baseball thing mom told me about." I would also file that as "take it or leave it."

Re: Marlena Glenn, re-watch episode 85, "The Rainbow Warrior," one of the better episodes from the original series.

Encouraged by Wadlow's passion in the He-Man podcast. Still not sure of him cause I didn't like Kick-Ass 2 (though he had crap material to adapt and a flashy Vaughn film to follow).
