I saw the first few episodes of Hung and then sort of tuned out. Maybe I'll pick it up again.

HBO bagged it after last season, hence the reason Amell is now free to do Arrow.

Just read the oliver casting news an hr ago. I haven't seen his works before. But I wish the guy best of luck in the role. Can't wait to see how he turns out.

Are you saying that whether or not he has a vandyke will determine what type of show this will be?


I'll completely understand if they decide not to go with the vandyke. It's an awkward facial hair style in this day and age, and I think it'd be a little unfair to ask the actor to grow one fulltime. I know they could spirit-glue a fake one on him, but that has an even chance of looking amazing or horrible.

Also, it's a bigger secret identity giveaway than Clark Kent's glasses.

Nope - simply which look of character they're going for. Ridiculously clean shaven and manicured (even for a billionaire playboy) would make it look too much like its trying to appeal to the gossip girl/90210 crowd than the smallville/supernatural crowd. Maintain a bit of roughness so he actually looks 27 would work a bit better, full on beard or not

No it wouldn't. This version of Green Arrow is wearing a mask over the lower part of his face, like Bane.

It also alters his voice.

totally i dont expect him to be sporting a beard all the time in the show. Since from what we saw with character breakdown we will be seeing an early ollie. Though i would hope for island scenes we will get to see him in a beard. But if the show can last a few seasons hopefully they will have ollie grow a beard.

Rockstar that big from the character breakdown could be for all we know first attempt in a costume look for ollie. Which he could sport for a few episodes lets say. Then changes his look to a more comics look. Heck that is one area smallville green arrow was right in look. So if the suit is alot different or nowhere close to comics look it would be a little WTF. Since smallville got it right and even when ollie first came in there there budget wasnt that great as it was.

I'm pretty flexible when it comes to most of the costume, the beard, and even the family element on this show. But domino mask or GTFO.

well domino mask would be nice but you got to look at this for production/cost effective. Would a domino mask look good, and be able to stay on for shots. I do hope its some sort of mask there. As for beard if we see over time he has one who says it has to be the van dyke style. Yes that is the look comics have used. But they could change it to just be a full goatee or bottom half one.

Also i was thinking since we know ollie is a rich playboy when he is ollie we are bound to be seeing him driving/owning boats loads of sportscars and all that. But i was thinking when he is Green arrow and not ziplining or needs to chase after some badguy. What type of transportation would you like to see green arrow use. A car, motocyle, atv, jeep?

Honestly, the domino mask is weak.

Everything about this project sounds like crap to me, except the costume.


The armored-look, the mask covering the lower portion of his face, the voice changer, the heavy use of black... it's practical and it works.

It reminds me of how they handled the Nolan Batman costume.


The Green Arrow costume from the comics makes no sense. The facial hair pretty much gives away that it's Oliver Queen.

The mask covering the lower part of his face makes more sense. He can sport the traditional facial hair this way, and it would be hidden as GA.

You know, I'm really starting to hate realism in comic book adaptations. God forbid we have a TV show where a superhero jollies around like Errol Flynn. No, he's got to wear armor with a mask that covers his whole face and changes his voice!

Seriously, Nolan changed some things to make Batman more realistic, if it is done well, it works for most people. Apparently they're trying the same here, maybe it will work, maybe not, it depends on the writing. If it is solid, it could be a good show, but if the writing is GL quality, it will be another fail for WB & co.

I would like to see a motorcycle, just because a car is very difficult to do without running into batmobile comparisons. Plus for a tv show they could probably do a decent concept motorcycle and have it look cool.

I could see it being more of a prop than actually being used that much.

I'm also interested to see what kind of hideout they'll put him in. The penthouse like smallville with a secret room or something else. His character has the money so there is lots of room to play around with things.

As for his vandyke, no one rocks those anymore and they look ridiculous.

I love how a remark about posters from another site entirely earns me an infraction for "spamming", and yet someone who has been trashing the show since before we even had anything concrete to judge the show on can keep on keeping on.

Ya we don't know if they are going for total/partial realism like nolan batman movies did. And ollie is a easy character to due. We don't have to go crazy supernatural on him.

As for trick arrows, I don't see why we couldn't have a few like a emp arrow, electric arrow, a net arrow and stuff like that. Would be simple and easy to pull with pratical/sfx shots. I agree too a cycle would probably bbe best mode of transport for ollie to use as ga when needed. Plus doesn't need to be used all the time. A few shots here or there, or when needed for say a cash scene.

I think they'll definitely use trick arrows. I don't know if anyone played that justice league heroes game but the ones they used there were good. Plus they can do some sort of grappling hook type arrow. They don't need to go that crazy, just three or four types would add variety.

At the same time, I'm sure hand to hand combat will be used. There is only so much you can do with the arrows.

I can definitely see them using CG on the arrows though because I remember smallville doing it for those slow motion shots. I just hope they don't go over board because his character requires very little CG and it tends to look horrible on tv.

I think the facial hair is going to be become the Superman suit to this show like it was to Smallville. We will all be wanting him to sport a beard but not till the last season will we get it.
