Green Arrow series in the works at The CW

I may be aiming too high casting-wise, but if they got Josh Holloway for Ollie, I would immediately throw all my misgivings about this out the window and jump on board. It would just be too good.

And it would go a long way for The CW proving themselves as a network. You want to get out of your funk and prove that you're not a network that caters solely to 16 year old girls? How about casting a 42 year old man as your series lead? :o:up:

And it would still be following their general formula, for the most part. He's still a good looking son of a *****. He's just older and has actually proven himself as an actor.

I would love that casting. Hopefully the CW will be open minded when it comes to casting this show, but I won't hold my breath.

Folks we have to remember CW president dawn o who was gun ho against male driven shows and genre shows like supernatural and smallville has left the company. The new president in charge in various interviews have said he wanted to change the cw demo and get more friendly to both male and female viewers, plus he said he really would love to see more dc shows happen and more genre shows like supernatural.

So its still early in his reign at cw so he hasnt made alot of changes yet. So of course we still have some stuff like gossip girl, 90210, vampire diaries that were brought in by dawn still in the lineup and all that. But with one tree hill ending, and counting if shows like secret circle/nikita are picked up for more seasons. This fall season will see more free spots. So adding green arrow/deadman series would all be possible.

With one tree hill gone we could maybe see deadman/green arrow if both picked up take maybe tue slots, wensday would be prime spot too. Though fri would probably be where shows end up just with how there shows that are still doing well have a good hold on mon/thurs slots. So working around tue/wens/fri could be fine.

So with that like i said the new guy seems alot more friendly to super hero shows, and genre programs. Unlike dawn who was trying for all her time to kill those shows off. With trying to make cw be lifetime jr and all that crap. So really this fall season will be the new guy's first chances at doing his take on the network and move it on from dawn o direction.

So with green arrow we dont know yet whats the theme, whats the direction they will take. There is many ways they can go about it. Being a serious drama series, to a more lighthearted drama/comedy(ie a little like 60s batman but less camp). but taking the character serious is what i like to see. So like i said in this thread and over in the sv thread on the show. We dont know how the show will turn out. So just cause there was comments said taking show in different direction away from comics we dont know what they mean there.

It could mean we could see massive overhaul on character and he is nothing like the comics. Which is the wrong direction to go as we saw with the failed ww pilot. Or they can go straight up rip from the comics and all that jazz. OR they can go like smallville did, there own take on characters/mythos while throwing in nods/winks and stuff directed out of comics and bring them to life. That is what i think they really meant with that comment.

Plus like i also said we dont know who else is going to be executive producers, no clue on writers for the series and other key crew members. Plus who knows what if any say dc folks will have within the show. Just cause we may not have any on board at this point where the show is just in development stage. Doesnt mean they wouldnt be or join in once the show is if it is picked up.

Either way, if this gets picked up they need to cast Black Canary atleast half way into the first season. And might as well keep Oliver as a womanizer for awhile.q

If one thing can be learned from Smallville it is to not put the hero in a serious relationship or else we're thrust in the endless make-up/break-up loop. If this show is a hit and they bring in Canary I would like their relationship to be handled somewhat like Tony and Pepper's in Iron Man. As you said let Oliver be a playboy/womanizer for a few years at least.

well i would hold off additional heroes/and speedys-red arrow/canery at least for first season. So they can develop ollie himself and all that. yes maybe throw out nods that other heroes exist so we have a feeling of a bigger world out there like sv did. But at least let ollie be his own hero for a bit of time. Then bring in canery and speedy.

As with basically any show(unless your Supernatural) he is going to need a female lead. Might as well be Dinah if anyone.

Dinah is the obvious choice.

As for villains Ollie's pretty well rounded from the likes of Merlyn, Brick, Count Vertigo, Drakon, etc...Tons of story potential.

GA's rogues gallery is pretty weak IMO. Most of the coolest baddies that he takes on like Deathstroke and Roulette are shared rogues of other heroes.

Well he still has some good known ones who could be his main rotating used villain as others have pointed out count vertigo, merlyn, and a few more, which i not to verse on his rouges. But even like sv if they have the ok rights wise i dont see the problem in nabbing a few other known dc villain like u mentioned above who are more of a shared dc villain to pop in once in awhile. Just like sv did a few times. Then of course they probably will throw in the osscial normal thugs/crooks, to maybe a few original made villains.

Speaking of which in the comics besides dinah and the speedy's who are usually some of green arrow's and ollie supporting cast of characters. Like is there any know girlfriends of his in the comics, to cops, reporters, and folks within his company. Cause if there are a few from any of those catagories I can see them using them as supporting cast members so they at least have a 4-5 member cast. Unless they want to just have ollie be the main cast member, and folks above just be supporting guest stars to keep budget down.

Then it is a good thing that the WB & DC fully owns all of those guys. To bad the are ****ing idiot morons that are not using them to their full potential

just cause the company and/or studio my own the characters. There could still be legal issues reguarding some characters from variety or reasons like if creator of the character owns the rights to usage of said character, or what have you. But then the other thing is ya wb hasnt been that great with using there dc characters well enough besides in animation.

This show will only work if they adapted the social crusader from the 1970s. Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams made the character very relevant. And right now, we're living in troubled times and have seen different social groups form like Occupy Wall Street and the Tea Party. Plus, it is an election year. So, if they made a show with a Green Arrow who stayed true to his Robin Hood inspirations, then it will connect with audiences.

There is Bonnie (I think thats her name) who is Arrowettes mom and thought Ollie may be the baby daddy but she never had that much page time anywhere.

So Marvel's Hawkeye will appear in the superhero teamup movie The Avengers on the big screen, while DC's Green Arrow will get a show on CW. Which superhero has it better, in your opinion?

Green Arrow's still a better character. So whatever.

This would be the best way to go, it would at the very least be different from every other live action superhero movie/show we have yet seen.
I read a good GA back up strip last night about folk getting thrown out of their apartments by a shady gangster landlord, sure, have super-villans involved too, but keeping some stories at that street kitchen sink level could be great.
but then, there is no chance this will happen, given the channel it's gonna be on.

Josh Holloway or Charlie Hunamm for Green Arrow! :D

They might accept it if it was Oliver Queen taking down the Wall Street people. That way they can have a cast of rich and good-looking people. Which is right up the alley of CW. I mean, look at Gossip Girl. That show is a typical teen drama but they use high-class New Yorkers to make it standout a bit.

This isn't going to happen on The CW.

It's unfortunate.

My ideal Green Arrow series would be similar to your idea but it would be a crime/procedural format, like "Criminal Minds," "Law and Order SVU," and "Flashpoint." Keep it dark and gritty.

Green Arrow investigating mysteries and murders, dealing with serial killers, rapists, narcotic dealers and social injustice. Every episode involving a different case, with issues ripped from the headlines.

CW's Green Arrow is going to be another soap drama for women and confused fanboys.

i'll give them the benefit of the doubt. nikita has already been a big departure for them.

You know none of this. Stop spouting your pre-concieved notions as if they're facts. :o

The episodes I saw seemed no more of a departure than the horrible "Birds of Prey" series on the old TheWb.

Even so, the show is supposedly headed for cancellation.

The soap dramas appear to be more popular on the network.
