Green Arrow series in the works at The CW

Green Arrow being more realism than escapism seems right to me.
But I have heard they are going to make it fun and entertaining. To what degree, I must ask.
Some fans want a more serious approach, to have GA as a bad-ass hero.

I hope the show will last more than one season. Then we can follow Oliver Queen's inner journey as well as watching him doing heroics.

Black Canary must be in it. But I personally want at least 8-10 episodes before she shows up.
How about that?

Keep in mind however, that the costume update for the Phantom was technically an intelligent design for the modern era - and that was truly awful. I'm not saying this one WILL suck, but we accepted GA's outfit in Smallville because the series was only hanging by the fingernails to realism, whereas Nolan's Batman is gripping realism tighter than a fat kid on his last rolo. Just saying, a modicum of disbelief is more acceptable on TV than in films, otherwise you risk ending up with a police procedural drama with a bow.

Which is what they should have done. GA lends itself to that kind of series. So does Batman and Nolan really portrayed Batman that way.

I wouldn't be a fan of this if they go the typical CW soap/drama direction, but a procedural police/court-based series would have been my ideal preference for a GA series. Something akin to SVU, Criminal Minds, Flashpoint etc

GA dealing with serial killers, terrorists, drug trafficing, rapists etc.. Something that grounds the character in a beliveable hyper-realistic reality.

We don't manic know if they are going for nolan realism in this show or not. And as for suit for all we know like I said the description for pilot suit is just an early suit. Or the suit is green just a dark shade of it with black. That gets mistaken as all black. We don't have a clue. To set photos come out with actor/stuntmen wearing it. Also cool to hear production will be starting up within a month or so.

Green arrow's costume has never been something I've cared for. I like the new design and I'm sure they'll take that approach and keep it black with hints of green.

The good thing about tv is that we'll be seeing the stuff soon because its production starts sometime in march.

I would go dark green with black highlights or lines in it I can't really explain what I am thinking.

Ya with production starting in a month give or take. And if they are doing outside/public filming. Like for example the failed ww pilot. We are bound to see something soon. If not that probably meaans they only doing set work or private shooting. Heck I am curious to see where the pilot is going to shoot. Will it be vancouver, la, georgia, or some other location.

No, the suit should definately not be bright green.

No the suit should definatelly not be only black, with the hero name coming from green arrows.

I would prefer a dark green one, but not with too much black in it.

It will probably be similar to the Green Arrow suit from Smallville. At the very least it is an accurate gauge for comparison.

Hope they don't go for the same style of suit from Smallville. Smallville suit looked cheap and tacky. Don't mind hood, but don't want naff plastic bits attached. I quite like the textured look of the new spiderman suit. However, wouldn't want a tight onesy going on.

As for the show I really hope they don't go for the teen melodrama like Smallville or the same re-hashed sets every week.

Prepare for disappointment, because I can guarantee you'll be seeing the same sets every week. Building sets and renting shooting locations isn't cheap, so it saves TV networks a lot of money to use the same stuff in most episodes. Plus if the entire series takes place in Star[ling] City, it'd be pretty ridiculous to not see Ollie's home every week.

As for "teen melodrama," none of the characters on this show will be teens. Maybe Ollie's little sister, but there's a chance she'll be in her 20's.

Don't mean his house or office as these things are expected to stay the same. Supernatural done well with set locations. Never felt derivative. Psych also uses a few standard sets, but mixes it up enough to seem interesting. Smallville felt as if it was shot in a hangar with some cheap props lying about. This is what I don't want with this.

Smallville still went the teen melodrama route despite the characters being in their mid twenties.

Devon Sawa wanted the role, says the rumour. But CW had already made up their mind about the casting. That bugs me!
Was there even a casting process?

Amell's going to start parkour training:
Full day of shooting #PrivatePractice and then... 3 hours of this!!! vimeo.com/m/23233212

How about the fun side of this prospect, before we get confirmed/filmed/screen tested stuff?

Suit. Which of these would work better (note, we're not going with the really, really comicbook ones like the feather cap etc):

I really like the one from the cartoon, but I think in live action it would look like a full body track suit. I like the way the costume looked on the first issue of the new 52, now it seems as if there going toward it being all green.

There was also a sketch they released that Jim Lee did, its like the new one I just liked how he did the glasses.

The DCnu one could work well on screen if they're going this "almost black" direction. The DCnu one has black pants and black highlights on the tunic to tone down the green, but there's still plenty there to make him obviously the green arrow

^I don't know if you've seen the recent cover to justice league 8 but it seems like they're going in the direction of the costume being all dark green.

I think the legs should remain black and really just the chest area should have some green.

As for the hood, it looks great but really isnt practical because you can't see anything from your peripherals. That was evident in smallville everytime he turned his head. They almost need to build some skeletal structure so the hood stays in place and not have it all loose. Like they do with the spider-man mask, they put the helmet underneath to give it that shape.

They confirmed the suit is armor though. The comic suit is fabric and leather, which is more cosmetic, than useful.

He has too many exposed areas where he could get shot or stabbed.

Tactical vests are armour, but they aren't all giant, padded things. Small calibre weapons and blades can be stopped by something relatively thin, and by separating the plates to only cover the sensible areas, hopefully there'd be no need to overdo the bulk and limit his movements.

As I wrote earlier, Black Canary should step in during the first season. But what if they do a season 2 and include more obscure superheroes, similar to they did in a certain other show (hint hint)?
I don't think it should be Carter Hall or anything Smallville related. I want fresh stuff here. Elongated Man is what comes to my mind. With him, we get two heroes to the prize of one.

EM could be guest starring a few times, working together with The Emerald Archer when the stakes are high. But the only other regurlar hero has to be Black Canary.

Can you think of DC characters, other than EM, that didn't appear in Smallville but are suitable for the Arrow series??

Hawkman, Aquaman, Supergirl, Flash/Impulse, Cyborg, Wonder Twins, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold - they should all get the sack here. We need other stuff.

I won't complain if the armor looks like the TDK suit.

If I did the series, I would probably introduce The Question as a recurring guest character. That's probably it.

And if Human Target was still going, I'd probably have crossovers with them.

I'd avoid the superpowered stuff.

Better to stick with League of Assassins level villains for the first half of the first series to be honest. Maybe some tech villains, like Vertigo would be good. Easy to use him against GA as you automatically have him throwing off Ollie's otherwise perfect aim.
Smallville got lucky that kryptonite made for easy superpower of the week type bad guys, and their villainous attitude was easily explained by the effects of meteor rock. No such maguffin with GA.

Rockstar: No superpowers, you say. Why wouldn't it be great with some of it?

Imagine the main hero (Green Arrow), the regurlar character (Black Canary) and guest star (Elongated Man) at a rooftop in the middle of the night, and they're about to save people.
If the show is handled with care, and of good quality, we will perhaps get a third season. And who can show up by then, if not Green Lantern?
Maybe not the Hal Jordan version, but still. We could actually get the team-up a lot of people want. Who cares if it's just on TV?

The Question is a great choice. I'd definitely like to see an Ollie/Vic team up...Maybe even Vixen? The obvious connection would be Ollie attending a fashion show where she happens to be.

Another would be Jason Blood.

I'd like to see cameos from some of the more subdued and B/C-list heroes of DC. I like the suggestion of Elongated Man. Throw in his wife Sue for good measure. Let's also have some Blue Beetle (Ted), Huntress, Question, Wildcat, Sandman, Doctor Mid-Nite, and the mysterious/unseen voice of Oracle.
