Green Arrow series in the works at The CW

I guess with the show being more grounded they could invest the money in the costume because special effects should cost nowhere near as much as smallville.

If this goes to series there is so much they can do with the character. It will be interesting if they give him a vehicle. I would prefer to see a motorcycle.

Its good to see WB invested some money and got a costume designer to do it.

They learned from the wonder woman mistake just releasing her with a white background.

Here they actually put some time into it.

Hopefully any other costumes on the show, especially the villains, are well made. For me personally, when smallville started with all the costumed heroes I would cringe because they were very poor.

I do like how he has sleeves, as I always thought the sleeveless look was problematic.

Maybe they'll actually produce something great for once, dc really needs it.

Haha. I was also going to contrast this with the WW costume reveal.

THIS COSTUME IS AWESOME. I wonder if the show will also take place in a DCUish kind of place.

Exactly

^the wonder woman costume looked like a halloween costume picture for a store. This looks more akin to a reveal for a movie. With the internet being as picky as ever, especially people on message boards writing shows off before a single frame is shot, they need to be mindful of the reveals.

Luckily for them Green Arrow is a grounded hero and his costume in the comics has never been that great. That left them with a lot of room for interpretation.

Before I even say anything...is it okay to NOT like this idea without being called a troll??

I just don't know if disagreement is allowed sometimes.

Green Arrow? Really? He can barely carry his own book for long periods before cancellation.

DC has such a large stable of classic characters....more interesting ones.... If they are looking to bring in comic book fans, they got us. But who, outside of us comic geeks, even know this hero?

He's Robin Hood.....and that's been done to death. Maybe Marvel really is the better company. They didn't even try Aquaman out. They never even showed the pilot. You gotta youtube it. The Flash deserved better treatment than he got in the 90's.

GL bombed at the theatre....so, I guess it's down to who's left? Outside of Superman and Batman, DC has a huge drop off.

I hope this is a success. Maybe this will help other heroes get showcased and exposed.

That costume is much better than expected.

But I would have had higher expectations had I known Colleen Atwood was designing it. How the **** were they able to afford her?

What kind of villains do you guys think they'll have??

I can imagine them having Brick as a deformed gangster. And maybe Vertigo as a criminal mastermind type.

No thats perfectly fine, and really thats everyone's sentiments, why green arrow out of all the characters?

I think though its the best option to do a tv series. Look at smallville and how comic fans ridiculed the show from day one. With Green arrow you don't have to stick strictly to the comics because, like you said, he can barely sustain his own series. They can take elements and do their own thing without people constantly complaining about it "not being like the comics"

Second, because his character is human you aren't spending a small fortune to produce the series, sure it will still be expensive, but they can invest that money in making the series look incredible, instead of having to pick and chose where the money should be spent.

When it comes to tv, its not like marvel is making any shows either because right now its the cost of bringing the characters to the small screen. Not just for the heroes, but the villains as well.

What Solidsnake said. PLUS Green Arrow has that political/socialist aspect about him. With Hunger Games, and TDKR coming out, it seems like the classwar stuff is the zeitgeist for many popular stories.

Vertigo I could see for sure, but I'm sure they'll change his character and make him a tech based villain.

Brick, like you said, some sort of skin disease.

Merlyn will be in there for sure, although that will be a character to build up.

I think the problem is he has a lot of assassin type characters and how many of those can you do before it becomes redundant. Deadshot I could see and onomatopoeia.

Add in some drug lords and corrupt business men.

I hope they do pull some villains from other heroes rogues gallery. Like someone said before, toyman could easily be a GA villain. Some third tier batman villains like the great white shark could be interesting (should they be allowed to use a batman villain).

Clock king, done like batman the animated series, since I'm pretty sure he was originally a green arrow villain.

They have a lot to choose from.

Costume is boss.

*Makes it avy*

Looks like he's got a goatee too... I am happy.

Brick as a cocaine drug lord. ''Bricks'' of cocaine and etc.

Count Vertigo as a diplomat from a Eastern Oriental country that secretly intents to sabotage the United States of America, and is armed with a device that affects the inner ear, throwing his enemies off balance.

Constantine Drakon as a professional assassin. Maybe working for Count Vertigo.

Onomatopeia as a hitman hired by Brick to kill Green Arrow.

Etc, etc.

Again, in fairness, the Aquaman pilot was commissioned to go to series, but was scrapped after the merger between The WB and UPN. Green Lantern and Wonder Woman were missteps, admittedly, and not doing anything with Flash outside of a barely in production movie is criminal. However, Marvel is not a better studio, Marvel Studios rely solely on their heroes, and thus cannot afford to do badly WB does not and can.

I do hope WB can get another few heroes off the ground, and release the Wonder Woman pilot.

I find myself really pulling for this guy to do the score.

Costume looks pretty boss. Hopefully it doesn't take him too long to put it on.

Whoah! Really digging the look! This is better than most superhero movie costumes. I wonder if he'll wear a mask or goggles. Im hoping for the mask. Im really feeling a Longbow Hunters vibe in the image.

Green Arrow? Really? He can barely carry his own book for long periods before cancellation.

He was consistently in back-ups and appeared in books like "Fun Comics" and "Adventure Comics" consistently from the '40s to the '80s. Then his first solo volume was a mini-series that lasted 4 issues. Then it spun off into an ongoing series that lasted for 10 years, 139 issues, and 7 annuals. Then they restarted the numbering when Oliver Queen was resurrected, which ran for 75 issues before he was moved to a book where he shared the title with Black Canary for 35 issues. Then had his own solo title again for 15 issues before every book got relaunched, the new book is on issue 7 with no signs of cancellation.

The only gap in his publishing since 1988 was 1999 and 2000.

I own a couple Green Arrow graphic novels. I think Year One is the best out of them all. It's a semi-recent GN.

Anyways, it seems a lot of people who completely wrote this show off are at least digging the costume (not anyone from here, other sites.) I really hope CW takes this show seriously.

Yeah a few other sites I visit have been positive about the suit which is nice to see. I'm already wanting to see more.

So this looks awesome. Glad my second favorite DC character is getting a show. I've been pulling for this for years. I can only hope that it lasts as long as Smallville and leads to the appearances of the entire Arrow Family. :woot: I mean, really, the only show that could get me more excited than this is a Batman series. I cannot wait. When's this supposed to come out? Any word on that?

Also, really hoping to see a domino mask here. It's either that or nothing at all. Kind of iffy on the sunglasses. I do like the current mask in the comics that are a mix of the two, though.

If it gets picked up (I think the odds are good) it'll start in somewhere near Autumn. August/September-ish.

As others said above all those villains I see no reason why they couldnt /won't use those villains at some point.

I hear ya....But even with all it's critics, Smallville was thstory of Superman. The anticipation of when his new powers would emerge etc....etc....kept people tuned in. Brainiac....Luthor ....all of that!

Whatcha got with GA?? Really.......And even non-fans know Superman or his alter-ego.

Yeah....they won't have to spend as much money on Special EFX. But what Smallville spent it's money on was the thing that kept folks coming back to watch....Namely, those expensive Special EFX. Nobody would have watched Smallville if Clark didn't lift something or run fast....we ain't watchin' him just pine away for Lana, do his chores and get advice from Pa. LOL

So Green Arrow's humanity and lack of name recognition, might be his achilles heel.

Starts and restarts.....beyond that 10 year span. He has more misses that hits. Regardless of the fact that he's been around since the 40's (so has the Spectre and Hawkman), he's still is having a ruff time connecting on a wider scale. Even with comic fans, it seems.
