Am I the only one that wants to see this film made? I personally think Green Arrow is a great hero, who stands up for the little man, which is something you can't necessarily say for Superman or Batman. Sure they fight crime, but I mean Green Arrow speaks and doesn't hide in the shadows, or isn't too busy fighting giant robots or aliens and junk. He could battle the Yakuza that has moved into Star City during his time on the island.

The movie could go like:

-It starts off with a young Oliver Queen (like maybe 18-19) who is shown as a thrill seeker and who shirks off on his duties. He doesn't wanna run the family business because he's interested in other things.
-Years later he is shown as a party man, but also head of the family company, and his birthday is coming up. He gets into an argument with his father about being a man and accepting your responsibilities, and this angers Ollie, so while on his Yatch (sp?) with all his party guests, he gets drunk and sneaks off on an emergency raft, but gets overthrown due to his drunken actions. Luckily, he finds himself washed up on some deserted island (he finds a flare gun that was in the emergency raft and holds it with him for emergency).
-The months pass and he begins to get used to life on the island. He hunts for his own food, using a bow and arrow he made himself. Meanwhile, while hunting, falls into a hole dug into the ground to trap animals or people in, and he breaks his leg and arm, so he's stuck there for days, feeding off of worms and bugs and lizards he finds crawling around.
-Finally, he hears an airplane flying over, so he grabs the flare gun and fires the shot, but it turns out they dont see it, and the flare lands somewhere in a marijuana field, setting it on fire. Ollie recognizes the smell form his teenage years and begins learning to use his legs again. He climbs out the hole and finds a marijuana field completely on fire, and a small cabin not too far from it and sees that people were hear. Then some drug runners come on shore and attack Ollie, but he manages to fight them off and tie them together, putting them on their boat and heads back to shore.
-After returning, he gets used to the life that he left, meets back up with his old college sweetheart, finds out his company had been sold my his parents, and sees that the city has changed and has become pretty bad, and the mayor isn't doing much to help. Also, the Yakuza has moved in the neighborhood and run stuff, but Ollie doesn't like this, so he dons a costume and a bow and arrow and takes to the streets to fight what the Mayor refuses to (we can also have Shado in the Yakuza too, of course).

I think it would be pretty good, how about you?

his extremely obvious resemblance of Robin Hood i think would really turn most studios off as well as a large audience. Its easier to warm up to a character in a comic series than a movie serial.

.....If that's the case then "V For Vendetta" should've turned off dozens of people for his resemblance of Zorro, not to mention they both fight opression and such. But I guess I see what you mean.

It's the mask... and the throwing knives... and the hairstyle... and the V that throw people away from Zorro when they see V... but Green Arrow?

I say update the costume (sleeker, not so clothy or Robin-hoody) and lose the hat... he'll still be GA to me... keep the hood of course, but only when it's rainy...

With that done, I would hope that we don't spend a WHOLE lot of time before and on the island... that's quite possibly one of the slowest starts to a movie I've ever seen... I say start on the boat, have him talking smack about beurocracy, getting drunk, and falling over. Spend a while with him on the island. Maybe even have him start on the island and do the pre-island stuff as flashbacks...

Then we bring him back to Star City to take on the Yakuza, Shado and rescue closet-expert Martial artist, Dinah Lance (her voice power only implied never actually used)...

That's how I'd do it...

In case you peeps don't know, Green Arrow IS going be on Smallville this year

True, played by Aquaman... strange that...

Yea I knew that, but I want to know how they're gonna handle that. Green Arrow was mentioned in the papers to have been missing right before Clark arrived on Earth in the series pilot, so I wonder how they're gonna handle this.

DC should just make movies based on Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash, and Aquaman. Also add in the ocasional Vertigo movie such as V for Vendetta or the Watchmen. Have your sequels and crossovers but don't end up like Marvel where almost every hero is getting a movie!

... wait... where's the downside?

I dont' understand. With a goatee that distinctive, how can you blend in as himself when he's not the Green arrow? Shouldn't it be damn obvious that Ollie and Arrow are the same person, thanks to his fancy handlebar?

considering he's my 4rth favorite hero (yes i have a list...im a geek) and i always have to defend him against my friends, i would pay good mmoney that i dont have to see that.

I just don't want DC to go down the route of Marvel by oversaturating the superhero film genre market

Um, no.

Ok, after rethinking this, I'll give you GA if you will give me Hawkman.

I would really like to see a Green Arrow movie but i would want Kevin Smith to direct it

I think it's a great idea with tons of promise. If you took this simple outline and hired a great writer and director you could end up with a great film that will please both the general audience and die hard fans.Another thing that would make this film great for the studios is it could be a done at a low $50 million budget like V for Vendetta or Constantine with most action being done by mainly stuntwork and fight choreogorapy. And at the low budget, and if it was marketed as a mature action movie like V for Vendetta it could be a huge succes. If I was in charge of WB/DC I would quickly hire a writer and director and see if we couldn't get this film off the ground, because I believe it has lots of promise more so than a Wonder Woman or Aquaman movie.

Always wanted to see this happen and hope SV helps Warner greenlight a GA movie in the future....

That's how he got his latest sidekick.

Personally, I don't think the movie needs to spend any actual time showing GA's origin on the island. He got shipwrecked, and got really good at archery, the end. He can bring that up in a conversation with Dinah, really.

Black Canary: "How'd you get so good with a bow, anyway?"
Green Arrow: "Three months on a desert island. Damn volleyball wouldn't shut up."

I knew this thread existed! I knew it!
Anyway:
Superheroes that need movies NOW case file #005: GREEN ARROW
On this sunny St. Patrick’s Day, it seems fitting to nominate a favorite blue-collar, jade crusader for the latest entry.

The comic:
Beginning in the 50’s as “Batman with a bow and arrow”, Green Arrow was later reimagined in the late 60’s by Dennis O’Neil as a passionate left-wing urban avenger.

When millionaire playboy Oliver Queen becomes stranded on a deserted island he fashions a makeshift bow that helps him hunt and survive for months of solitude. Queen soon develops a taste for crimefighting when he battles a group of smugglers using the island as a hidden base. Returning home to Star City with a new lease on life and an addiction to adrenaline and adventure, Queen takes up a secret life as the costumed crusader known as the Green Arrow.

The movie:
This one deserves an origin, whether the film tells a linear story or doles out the origin in flashbacks. GA’s introduction has a great Cast Away meets Rambo quality that would look great on film. The filmmakers might consider making Oliver’s Island Adventure the first act (similar to Batman Begins), and load the majority of the film with full-on Green Arrow action.

One of the harder obstacles is choosing the right villain for the film. Although evil archer Merlyn would be the most obvious choice, Green Arrow doesn’t have the most eclectic rogues’ gallery, and many of his toughest adversaries like Deathstroke and Roulette are shared antagonists of other heroes. Deadshot might be a decent choice, a competent and dangerous nemesis with a great personality who could re-appear in other DC films once they start branching out the way Marvel has.

Suggested director: Lots of great potentials here. Just to name a few, it would be great to see Paul Greengrass (The Bourne series, Green Zone) take a foray into gritty superhero fare; Pierre Morel (Taken) is also riding high in the action department; and Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) could use a superhero vehicle to get back some good will.

Could it happen?
The character’s regular appearances on “Smallville” for the past several seasons have introduced a new legion of fans to the modern-day Robin Hood, possibly enough for launching a potential film franchise.

Green Arrow was at the center of the supervillain showcase screenplay “Escape from Supermax” (written by David Goyer and Justin Marks) which was nearly greenlit years ago. That script would almost certainly work better as a sequel.

Beyond that, there’s been very little talk of Green Arrow from DC Entertainments new management team, so it seems a film appearance from Speedy or Black Canary or a team-up with Green Lantern will have to wait. Although with lesser known DC properties like Jonah Hex and The Losers hitting the big screen momentarily, the emerald archer’s odds are looking up.

it would be nice to see green arrow happen, i have enjoyed him for the most part on smallville. Though last we heard the goyer green arrow film been shelved. Probably will one day happen with someone else but probably like WW awhile before we see it happen.

Wow, I actually remember when this thread was made...

Anyway, I would like to see a GA film. No, I would love to see a GA film...I've always enjoyed the character and he's my favorite "non-powered" hero next to Batman and The Question (He's still alive to me dammit!). To me, I see the film being a cross between Tony Stark meets Batman. The origin story is already there and can be made well if handled correctly.

Yesterday I went to go and see Green Zone and a preview for Robin Hood showed. The whole idea of bow and arrow action is something I want to see for GA. Like when he fires multiple arrows with one shot. Plus I've always wanted to see an interpretation of Star City on screen.

As for the villain, I like the idea of Deadshot in that post Jordacar made. And then bring in Merlyn for a possible sequel.

People have said that no one would want to see a Green Arrow movie..

I say, out of all of these other comic adaptations that people haven't even heard of are getting made. At least people know OF Green Arrow. I'm sure, with the right team and cast, people will watch anything..

What I want to see as far as Green Arrow goes on film is as a supporting character in Green Lantern, cast Bradley Cooper who I think would have great reporte with Reynolds, and then spinoff a MUCH EDITED Supermax.

I'm starting to think the words "Justin Marks" and "much edited" should always be joined.
