Green Lantern reboot ideas.

A Green Lantern movie I could really enjoy would be Star Trek (2009) meets The Matrix (1999). Take the sci-fi setting and world-destroying stakes with a colorfully dressed cast of cool spins on beloved characters from Stark Trek, and fuse it with exploring this mysterious hidden war and unlocking the power of the mind and will in order to gain mastery over onesself and one's environment, and see it all through the eyes of a rebellious newcomer who dons the uniform and proves himself worthy.

I know it may sound silly at first but i think it would be better if the Green Lantern movies concentrated on more none Lantern villains like.......

Mongul Could be a great story to start with including warworld.

Antimonitor Probably the last Lantern movie villain

Corsar Thal A Thanagarian Emperor

By no means stay away from the Lantern villains just i think Green lantern movies should / could explore the vast DC universe.

I thought Mark Strong was a great Sinestro despite hating everything else about the movie so i hope he makes a return....hell it makes more sence than Chris evans being human torch then captain America.

Also i'd love Nathen Fillion to be Hal Jordan and i'm warming up to the idea of Denzel Washington as John Stewart.

Exactly! Didn't think about Matrix. But I also hope that they remember that at his core that Hal is essentially a space cop!( although more like a suped up Jedi!)

strange you bring up the word jedi because i always imagined a Green Lantern movie to have that Obi Wan / Qui Gon Jinn partnership feel.......if that makes sense?

Hal and Sinestro trying to settle some kind of civil war problem on Thanagar kinda like a phantom menace feel but then you get some villain revealing himself and a big ass galactic war with a whole lot of green light and Thanagarian battle maces...........Oh Yeah.

And a character like Lobo, Adam strange or even starfire could make some kind of appearance....who knows

Its a big universe and it needs to be shown in all its diversity.

You know what, Denzel is a BAMF. After The Book of Eli, I'd happily see the man take any action role. Also, I like that you chose older actors. I'm a bit tired of origin stories and the ever youthful "twenty-something" hero. How about that aged hero that has experience and some grit.

well people forget that our new superman and lex are in the 30 year old area.

the rock is pretty much confirmed to be playing someone and i hope its Black adam or maybe Amazo........anyway he isnt a young anymore.

Plus Ben afleks not a young silly boy anymore lol we all hope.

I guess it would be better to have Denzel, Nathen fillion and whoever playing Killowog so we could have Sinestro already in the backgruond with his corps wich would lead into Mongul nicley.

Absolutely, but with a training day vibe if you know what I mean. But I wouldn't want Sinestro to be a straight evil bad guy. More like an antihero type. Someone who ultimately does what needs to be done to get the job done.

I completely agree dude.

Fingers crossed my friend. Because we have had some speculation / rumors about Denzel Washington being our Green Lantern so.....who knows maybe we will get that epic Lantern movie we all deserve. 8)

In the grand tradition of mixing genres in with a superhero movie, how about a space noir?

Hal is paired with Thaal Sinestro on an interplanetary investigation that involves whole settlements being wiped out. Think a buddy cop movie with a space opera's settings for the first half, with interrogations featuring good cop/bad cop, debates over lethal force and it's place in an interplanetary police force, and maybe some foreboding warnings from Atrocitus.

While traveling, our Green Lantern displays a hot-headed and even vindictive attitude towards some traditional space powers, like the slave taking Dominators and the xenophobic Daxamites. We also learn about Abin Sur and his sister's affair with Sinestro in contrast to Carol and Hal's issues.

Our heroes are similar to Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman's detectives from Se7en, but with both being recruited by different Guardians (Appa and Ganthet) to investigate each other (Jordan for being insubordinate and downright defiant to the Guardians' commands, Sinestro for the suspiciously peaceful nature of his home planet).

The Villain? Initially a small but powerful cadre of reactivated Manhunters driven by faulty programming. Jordan's maverick style tactics lead to trading information to Atrocitus in exchange for tales from the past (the Guardian's failure with the Manhunters, and a brief flash of the Blackest Night). The fight ends up leading to Korugar, where we discover that not only has Sinestro enforced a regime based on fear, but that the citizenry was responsible for signaling the Manhunter's reactivation in hopes of killing him.

Sinestro and Hal face off, with a lot of personal anger between the two. Hal wins by thinking tactically about how to scare Sinestro, weakening his ring, and outlasting the older officer's power charge. Sinestro is imprisoned by the Guardians but it's revealed that Atrocitus used Hal's information to escape and somehow destroy nearby colonists who were supported by the Guardians in the desolate Sector 666.

Hal submits for punishment as well, but Ganthet successfully argues for a simple restriction to Earth affairs for a while, as well as a new two members per sector policy, leading to the selection of Jon Stewart.

Our end credits scene reveals the other power spectrums being revealed as Atrocitus' earlier prophecy echoes through Sinestro's mind.

I want a buddy cop, space opera epic with Guy and John at the helm traversing the universe.

The only way a Lantern other than Hal is going to be on screen is in a JL movie, or after a GL franchise is built around Hal. Given Warner Bumbles track record, there is a better chance that we'll see Lanterns on Arrow and/or Flash before the big screen.

buddy cop movie with hal and john i the way to go. star wars meets police academy. it's pity that burt macklin ended up being star-lord. he and the rock as a duo would have been boss. I'm assuming rock is going to be darkseid, so Ii'll start championing michael jai white for john. black dynamite is one of the best movies I've ever seen.

I wouldn't be so sure. Or rather, I don't doubt that it'll be a long time before we see a Green Lantern again, but I think its highly likely the Ryan Reynolds movie poisoned the well for Hal Jordan.

That's pretty cool, dude. Space noir is a good call.

Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan

He has voiced the character in justice League, Jl doom and emerald knights. He has the personality, charm and comedy act to be him in a movie.

It felt like the most different and unique pitch to make. There's been Space Operas, Wagons to the Stars, Space Westerns, space horror and and space cops. Space noir seems like an untapped area, and it fits the morally ambiguous actions the Guardians are always taking, all the secrets throughout the setting, and it allows for more fun with the space cop characterization.

Regular space cops would be like Lethal Weapon, cool but very formulaic. Noir space cops would handle corruption, plot twists, and complex anti-villainous antagonists like Sinestro very well. Think about some of Orson Welles's corrupt cops, who are correct in identifying the guilty party, but end up committing a frame up and murder while capturing them.

Nah man

Let's not only focus on the two least important GLs. That's like suggesting a Jay Garrick Flash film or a Bart Allen Flash film. As far as I'm concerned, Hal is the best choice for the lead of a GL movie.

The Sinestro/Hal relationship is not somethig that should be passed up. Hal has the most story potential for a series of films.

Well, this is the plain truth: if a GL franchise can't be built around Hal, then it can't be built. With all due respect to the other Lanterns, including Alan, Hal is the nexus of the Lanternverse---and this is coming from a huge Kyle Rayner mark.

I've seen GL done w/out Hal & it had more mainstream popularity that it has w/him. I knew Hal's GL film would fail the instant I found out they were using him. Using Hal again will result in a bigger failure than last time. The only people who'll get hype for Hal will be Hal's comic fans. They've lost credibility because Hal's last film was so full of fail. They aren't gonna be able to drag their friends along this time. When using a non-iconic character like Hal, if he's not a hit the 1st time...he WON'T ever be a hit. You never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression. Hal's done. We can only hope WB recognizes it. The good thing about a GL franchise is that there is variety. Exploit that by choosing somebody who can work in live action, not the guy who failed to

Ditto. It's already better than what they gave us w/Hal

Possibly a blessing in disguise. We could wind up getting a GL that appeals to more than just comic fans this time

Really? Where? There are 4 recorded GL-centric non-print productions, and they all feature Hal. The rest of GL's appearances are guest spots (Smallville, Brave & Bold, Superman:TAS) or the various incarnations of the Justice League. Jordan also dominates all of the other Lanterns combined in number of appearances there, too.

As for the comics, Hal is still the most popular Lantern even in the post-Johns era. Right now, Hal, John, Guy, and Kyle each have their own titles with GLC (John) New Guardians (Kyle) and Red Lanterns (Guy) having about 60% of the readership compared to the main title. If you want the sales numbers, I can link you.

Beyond your personal preference, where is your evidence that another character can replace Jordan?

The DCAU

Comics unfortunately are not mainstream. Hal's lack of ticket sales shows that good comic book sales doesn't equate to good ticket sales. Hal's popularity amongst his comic fans didn't make the GA give a crap. He still lacks icon status and I doubt WB/DC efforts to change that will ever work

He already has been &w/great results. Superman TAS, JL, Static Shock, JLU. He was absent for the DCAU & it was awesome. Hal becomes irreplaceable when he reaches the importance level of a Bats/Supes/WW(in other words, never). If that was ever gonna happen, it would've happened by now. It's not like DC hasn't been trying
