Green Lantern reboot ideas.

Stark was a likeable pompous, sexist, serial womanizer though. Proven by the fact that RDJs Stark is pretty much universally loved. RDJ is now a huge star earning 20 million a film.

Reynolds' Hal Jordan? Well let's be honest, it pretty much killed his career before it truly got going.

We'll have to disagree there, too. Reynolds has been on the small and silver screens for over 20 years; his career is fine. RIPD was a true flop at the box office, yet Reynolds has 3 movies coming out in the near future. Green Lantern should have been his signature role, launching a franchise similar to Iron Man, but he was another victim of WB's ineptitude.

Tony Stark is the textbook definition of likable *****e. To deny that is to overlook 3 billion dollars worth of box office receipts. Clearly he's likable, and has been from the start.
Ryan Reynold's Hal Jordan doesn't even come close. His personality was almost non existent, his backstory uninteresting, his motivations paper thin, the list goes on. If he was "likable" I certainly didn't hear about it from anyone.

I think you are confusing overall movie making with the main character's likeability. Stark was a self-absorbed, emotionally crippled, drunken jerkwad until life gave him a wake-up call IM1. Even then, he still struggled to be an upstanding guy in IM2, as evidenced by his best friend having to corral him from abusing his power. It really wasn't until Avengers that Stark got the authentic hero vibe rather than the arrogant college brat whose intelligence compensated for his emotional shortcomings at the right time.

The difference between Stark and Jordan was direction. Marvel Studios had a clear vision for all of their character arcs. WB tried to make an amalgam of Hal Jordan from the comics and a generic, reluctant hero with woman problems to pacify the GA sheeple. Thus, the movie wasn't as good as it should have been.

^Exactly, Flint.

Actually, our introduction to Tony Stark is him being a cool playful celebrity with some soldiers, and then getting blown up. We already like him, .

I guess we had completely different perceptions. Stark bragging about going 12-for-12 with the calendar models was nauseating. If the female solider would have leaned in and slapped him for being a monumentally sexist jerk, I would have applauded.

But there is an obvious appeal to the buttmunch-turned-hero story since it was the basic premise employed by Marvel with Thor as well. He was even worse than Stark until his post depowering catharsis. So I don't buy the assertion that the audience has to like the main character immediately. That can be done over the course of the movie or multiple movies.

I had the same perception as the soldiers, this guy is hilarious and is the kind of celebrity that takes pictures, so he's cool, even if he is arrogant, he's totally approachable. The audience smiles and laughs with them, they are won over with the soldiers. Should the female soldier also have slapped him when he got blown up?

You're still equating likeable with being a hero or lacking flaws, so of course you don't think a character has to be likeable from the outset, or even in the first film. The reality is no one likes characters they don't like by definition. No one is going to enjoy seeing two hours of a character they don't like, they will not give it good word of mouth or reviews, because it was a movie about a character they didn't like. They certainly aren't going to spend twelve dollars to see a sequel about a character they don't like.

EDIT:

I think you are confusing overall movie making with the main character's likeability.

I come from a world where what you call making the main character likeable and what you call making the movie likeable are one and the same. So do filmmakers.

MS didn't have a clear vision, that's why IM2 was so muddled. They had a character who was likeable at his core. They also brought together things from the comics and amalgamated it with things the GA sheeple love. They just did it well because they were creative. Green Lantern attempted to ape the success of Iron Man, but they (like you apparently) didn't understand why Iron Man was successful, so they failed.

What I liked about the animated movie "First Flight" is that it really showed Hal Jordan being different from the other GLs, he thought creatively, took risks. A GL reboot could show how serious and stoic the Corps is, and Hal could be a contrast to that. Not by being a goofball, but by thinking differently. Like when he took the lead in "First Flight" when they were chasing Kanjar Ro. And maybe his personality/humour shows through in things like his constructs, maybe he could be the only one to think up a giant swinging fist, or fly-swatter, or catcher's mitt. Besides those occasional flashes of humour, I would want a GL reboot to be much more serious, more at stake. Hal would need that gravitas too. It's tricky, but I think they've got to treat it much more seriously to turn things around. Much more militaristic, maybe like the marines in Aliens or even Starship Troopers.

^I could see that. I think First Flight understood that the draw of GL was space, and exploring all that craziness. They also took on the burden of developing Sinestro fully in one sitting, which made the pacing unteneble for a live action film, but the general idea, that Earth is not the focus of Hal's origin makes abundant sense.

First Flight did so many things right... they ALSO had a likeable main character. I can't remember the first scenes, but by the time he's having his training day, you can't help but care about Hal.

Yea, the film should have been more like First Flight. Basically a buddy cop movie in space. Then Hal discovers Sinestro's dark secret in the final third. None of this space turd Parallax crap.

Up until Green Lantern Reynolds was quite popular. It was said his star was on the rise. Sure he'd been in some comedies and had a great cameo in that awful Wolverine film. But he wasn't a star, but could have been on his way.

But now he's box office poison. His career is dead. RIPD also had Bridges in it, but it bombed. Safe House also had Denzel fricking Washington in it, but it underperformed.

Green Lantern was the biggest mistake of Reynolds' career. He should have done that Deadpool film instead.

Reynold's career really fizzled out, he really knows how to pick bad movies...

I can't say i feel bad for him. He's an attractive, rich actor married to Blake Lively. He may not have a productive career in acting ahead of him, but he has more than enough money to coast on.

I don't feel bad for him. But he did have some talent. The Nines and Buried were really good. What a waste.

Yeah. They actually could have had Parallax serve the same role as the Yellow Power Battery in First Flight. That would have been kinda cool, imho.

Here's some rough ideas on how I'd do the GL film, lemme know what you think

The beginning of the movie can focus on Dwayne Johnson/John Stewart's life as an architect in Detroit. Early on, it's established that John Stewart used to be a marine, we flashback to a scene where all of the members of his platoon are blown up by an IED. It's established that John Stewart feels guilty about being the only survivor of his platoon. Even though he's a gifted architect, he feels uncomfortable in his new position. He's finally able to overcome the demons that haunt him from his days as a marine once he puts the ring on. It is through becoming a Green Lantern that his life finds meaning again.
yxOUqDC.png

John receives the ring, experiments with it for a few quick fun scenes, and then he's rapidly transported to Oa. When he arrives on Oa, his arrival is met with hostility, and there is no immediate explanation for his arrival. Tomar-Re meets with John Stewart and informs him that the Guardians did not choose him to be a Green Lantern, and they speculate that the ring has come to John Stewart without the Guardians consent or knowledge. It is particularly unusual because Sector 2814 already has a Green Lantern. Hal Jordan. Hal was trained by Sinestro and they are best friends and partners. Hal feels threatened by John Stewart because he's cocky and thinks he can handle his sector on his own, and since it's unprecedented for one sector to require two Green Lanterns, Hal feels slightly embarrassed, so he doesn't give John Stewart an easy time. Sinestro is shown to be suspicious of John Stewart. He believes the Guardians are lying and chose John in secret..

PGrcTj5.jpg

At first, Tomar- Re is the only one to treat John Stewart with any respect. After his initial arrival and quick meeting with Sinestro and Hal, John is escorted by Tomar to meet with the Guardians. They are weary of letting John keep the ring, but Ganthet is able to convince the others to let John keep the ring. John at this point doesn't really have any idea what's going on, but decides to stick around since he doesn't really want to go back to his other life. During a discussion with Tomar-Re about what it means to be a Green Lantern, John is able to notice some similarities between the marine corps and the Green Lantern corps. Also during this conversation, Tomar tells John that he thinks John was chosen for a reason. He doesn't elaborate any further, before he tells John that he'll be doing combat training with Kilowog. Meanwhile, Sinestro is trying to convince Hal to go on a secret mission with him. Hal and Sinestro are shown to have a close relationship, it's clear they've been partners for a while so Hal agrees to keep the mission a secret from the Guardians.

250nipk.jpg

Sinestro tells Hal that they are going to planet Ysmault to interrogate a creature known as Atrocitus. On their flight to Ysmault, Sinestro confides in Hal Jordan that he overheard the Guardians talking about a prophecy called "Blackest Night". He also thinks that John being chosen as a Green Lantern is related to the prophecy. On his own, Sinestro had done some digging to find out more and discovered that the Guardians imprisoned a creature known as Atrocitus on planet Ysmault. And this creature knows about the prophecy.

qy05fAf.jpg

The planet Ysmault is a great opportunity to have some beautiful visual effects. Hopefully a reboot can have more visually appealing space scenes.

So they arrive on Ysmault and they discover the Atrocitus' prison. Sinestro initiates the interrogation and initially, Atrocitus tells him nothing, only expressing his hatred for the Green Lantern corps and the Guardians. Sinestro gets progressively more violent in his interrogation until Atrocitus is close to death. Hal intervenes just in time, and Sinestro lets up. Bloodied, Atrocitus just laughs and basically tells them that there will be a war between all the different colored lanterns. Sinestro's gotten the information he needs so him and Hal decide to leave. Sinestro verbally attacks Hal for making him look weak in front of Atrocitus. He argues that the situation calls for serious measures to be taken.

ihfOtB6.jpg

The Atrocitus interrogation is intercut with scenes where Kilowog is basically kicking John Stewart's ass/"training" John until Kilowog gets John angry. John shows an abnormal amount of will and knocks Kilowog on his ass. Kilowog is stupefied, its the first time someone has done that to him in their first training session.

After Kilowog's training session, Tomar- Re tries to teach John to make complicated constructs, but with his job as an architect, it's already easy for him to do, and the more complicated constructs come naturally. Hal and Sinestro arrive around the same time that Tomar Re decides he couldn't even really teach John anything. John asks about both Hal and Sinestro. It is here where we get brief origin explanations for both of these characters. A brief gloss over of Hal's origin and Sinestro's origin (with emphasis on the fact that he frequently disagrees with the Guardians and is known for a wicked temper and his willingness to get violent when deemed necessary) it's established that Hal Jordan and Thaal Sinestro are generally regarded as the best Green Lanterns.

VAxLG6H.jpg

As soon as Hal and Sinestro arrive on Oa, they go straight to the Guardians to confront them about the prophecy. The guardians unanimously deny knowledge of any prophecy, but Ganthet and Scar both act suspiciously (its clear they both know full well what's going on).

Sinestro is furious that the Guardians would lie to him. Sinestro angrily asks Hal Jordan to leave so he can speak with the Guardians alone.

Hal leaves and notices John Stewart talking with Tomar and decides to approach him. Hal is initially somewhat hostile but he says things in a joking manner to make himself feel okay about being a *****e. John shouldn't have a high threshold for disrespect, so he'll reciprocate the hostility.

Sinestro, alone with the guardians, pleads with them to let him forge a yellow power ring in order to combat what he knows is coming. He suggests that the yellow element is more powerful, and would be more effective, but the guardians deny this. They prohibit Sinestro from forging a yellow ring and discourage him from even speaking about it. They suggest that the energy that powers the yellow element is too uncontrollable and unpredictable. They also keep up the lie and deny any knowledge of a prophecy, further infuriating Sinestro. In an effort to change the subject, they inform Sinestro of a mysterious distress signal in Hal Jordan's sector. They suggest that Hal and Sinestro investigate the disturbance. Sinestro suggests that John and Hal investigate it together. Sinestro furiously leaves the guardians and Oa without speaking a word.

The Guardians inform Hal and John of the mystery distress signal, and Hal begrudgingly agrees to take John along. They travel for a while until they arrive on the planet where the signal was coming from. The source of the distress signal is apparently within a seedy space bar. We see here how the sight of a Green Lantern costume strikes fear into the hearts of seedy looking space criminals.

They ask around trying to find out who activated the distress signal, but no one knows. A hooded woman with skin the same color as Sinestro's sits at a table nearby, eying them from the corner Aragorn in Fellowship of the Ring style . John, clearly intrigued by her otherworldly beauty decides to approach her. She explains that she is Katma Tui of Korugar and that she activated the distress signal. The distress signal was given to her by her late father, who had received a device after saving the life of the deceased Green Lantern, Abin Sur. The device somehow notifies the Green Lantern corps if trouble is afoot. When asked why she is all the way in sector 2814 if she is from Korugar, she responds that she needed to go somewhere as far away from Korugar as possible in order to feel safe activating the device. She apologizes for not approaching them immediately, but wanted to make sure that Thaal Sinestro wasn't with them. Before she can tell them why, we cut back to Sinestro.

After abruptly leaving Oa after his heated conversation with the Guardians, Sinestro has returned to his home planet, Korugar. It is revealed that he has already forged a ring using the yellow element. He has forged multiple rings in fact. Korugar is ruled with an iron fist by the element of fear. Sinestro has already assembled an army on Korugar, powered by the yellow element. Arkillo, Sinestro's right hand man is in charge when Sinestro is on Oa. I say in this introduction scene to the way life is on Korugar, we should get a scene to establish how ruthless Arkillo is. Perhaps a thief is brought to Arkillo, and the man cries and falls to his knees in front of him begging for his life. Arkillo creates a yellow blade and cuts the thief's hands off, and the thief is escorted away.

Sinestro then tells Arkillo that there is no hope for the Guardians. That they will only get in the way of his plan. He explains that their lies created a rift that can't be repaired, and that their plans must be hastened. He plans an assault on Oa. He's planning this because he knows that the Yellow Lantern corps won't be allowed to exist as long as the Green Lantern corps exists. He also intends to forcefully extract information from the Guardians regarding the prophecy. His plan is for the Yellow Lantern corps to be the ruling force of the galaxy, he wants his corps to protect the universe from the prophecy, and the Green Lanterns will only get in the way as long as they exist. Before the assault however, he intends to return to Oa in an effort to convert Hal.

Back to Hal, John and Katma...Katma reveals to John and Hal how Sinestro is ruling Korugar. Katma was the leader of a rebellion against Sinestro and eventually was forced to leave Korugar for her own safety. Her entire family was heavily involved in upper level positions in the rebellion, but they were all wiped out. Katma was the only one able to escape, and she hitchhiked across the galaxy, downplaying her identity and beauty in an effort to stay hidden. As soon as she felt safe enough she activated the distress signal. John is clearly enamored by this woman and believes what she's saying, but it's clear that Hal isn't so sure of her. He's not so ready to believe that his partner and best friend would be capable of such things, but then he remembers how he acted against Atrocitus and once again isn't so sure what to think. They assure Katma that they will look into it, and ask her if she needs a lift anywhere, she declines, feeling safe in the seedy space bar.

Hal decides that they should stop at Oa first to see if Sinestro is there. Hal wants to confront Sinestro himself first. When Hal and John arrive, Sinestro is already back on Oa, as he is ready to make an attempt to convert Hal Jordan. Hal and John confront Sinestro about the things Katma told them, and it's clear Hal is really conflicted here. Sinestro is able to somewhat convince Hal that John and Katma are working with the Guardians to keep things from Hal. Sinestro tries to convince Hal that the yellow energy is necessary, and plays on the fact that the Guardians have lied to Hal before about the prophecy, and are working against Hal and Sinestro. Hal is eventually able to come to his senses and rejects Sinestro's offer to join him. Sinestro is sad about what he has to do, but he drops his Green Lantern ring and puts on his Yellow Lantern ring and calls in the assault on Oa.

HXIVnhn.png

The GL's are shown to be utterly unprepared, and there are hundreds of casualties. We need to get a quick Sinestro/Hal fight sequence, where Sinestro tells Hal how they could have ruled the universe with Hal at his side. We then follow the GL ring that Sinestro dropped , and we see it approaching a familiar planet.. the planet Katma is staying on. She receives the GL ring and before she has any time to learn to use it, she's transported to Oa...into a battlezone. When she first arrives, she's caught off guard and ambushed by multiple Yellow Lanterns. John swoops in and saves her and gives her a quick tutorial on how to use the ring. She proves to be a natural though. She's able to positively channel her emotions about Korugar into more power from the ring.

QmnQLtG.png

There should be a scene where Arkillo and Kilowog are fighting each other. We cut to the Guardians all retreating to an underground cave where they keep the central power battery. Protecting the central power battery is crucial. John and Hal realize that the only way to win the battle is to take out the central yellow battery. Luckily, Katma can show them exactly where it is on Korugar. Hal, John, and Katma race back to Korugar after the battery. Once they arrive, they face off against a large number of Sinestro Corps members, but eventually dispatch them. Katma leads Hal and John to the central battery.

The green element is the only weakness of the yellow element so with enough willpower and concentration, the 3 Green Lanterns are able to crack open the yellow battery just enough for the energy to start seeping out. At this time, an infuriated Sinesto arrives and unleashes a vicious attack on the three of them. His rage makes him powerful enough to take on the three of them at once. The energy seeping out of the battery appears to be sucked into Sinestro's ring, powering him even more. John and Katma decide to continue their attempt to break open the battery, while Hal holds off Sinestro. Eventually Sinestro gains the upper hand and is about to kill Hal when John swoops in and saves Hal. It's here that we finally see both Hal and John respecting each other. Hal and John take down Sinestro together, and then focus their efforts on the Yellow battery. but the battle isn't over... the fight is still raging on Oa.

Hal, with the help of Katma and John is able to fully crack open the yellow battery, but as soon as he does, there is a massive flash of bright yellow light, and we get a quick half second look at an enormous yellow monster emerging from the battery and entering Hal's body. Hal screams like someone would if the essence of fear were entering their body, his temples grey, and he's then weirdly calm. John and Katma believe they have saved the day, and try to brush off Hal's weirdness after breaking open the power battery.

They return to Oa to find the depowered Sinestro corps defeated. The Guardians soon gather around Hal, John and Katma and ask them how the lantern rings were depowered.. John and Katma tell the guardians that they broke open the yellow battery. The normally emotionless guardians appear to be terrified as soon as they found out the battery had been broken.

Hal begins to laugh maniacally and Parallax begins speaking through him. He eventually leaves Hal's body and returns to the monstrous yellow form that we saw before it entered Hal. Hal's body drops to the floor, apparently dead.

PWDFkAZ.jpg

So now a giant yellow monster that is literally the embodiment of fear is unleashed on Oa. Eventually with the help of the guardians, John, Katma, and the remaining Green Lanterns, the monster is able to be contained.

After Parallax is defeated, Hal wakes up and he and John shake hands, and of course, John and Katma kiss. It is also revealed that Ganthet secretly sent the Green Lantern ring for John Stewart. He had a vision that John Stewart would be a major part of the prophecy. He reveals that John Stewart's role in the prophecy is yet to be revealed, and that his help in defeating the Yellow Lanterns and Parallax was merely a bonus, unrelated to the prophecy. I'd end the movie with John deciding not to return to Earth, but to keep working alongside Hal and Katma. This is the first time he's felt like his life has had any meaning in a while. He sees Hal and Katma and the other Green Lanterns like members of his platoon now.

-snip-

That's a LOT. I like the story, but I'm pretty sure all that can't fit in one movie, all the exposition, the huge range of emotions. I like the way you split time with Hal and John. Mine's similar in a few ways, but probably falls on the 'too simple side.'

The Green Lantern Corps

Pre-credits: A primer on the Green Lantern Corps is narrated by Hal Jordan as he is pursued and captured by the Manhunters after destroying a huge engine large enough to move a planet. This blows a huge chunk of the planet away.

Act I:

Meet John Stewart. He's an ex marine with nightmares, and a freelance architectural engineer who can't find work in Coast City, his girlfriend Tawny is leaving him, and though he's creative and deep and tries to be a good guy, life is not on his side and no one believes in him, no one will give him a chance. Until one day this ring flies to him saying "You have the capability to overcome great fear" and constantly telling him what percentage his power is at.

He then has a ton of fun with it, until some alien robots called the Manhunters come to Earth to get "The Green Lantern of Sector 2814" for "crimes against Mongul." He's taken to a strange planet called Biot and interrogated by an entity called Mongul with a yellow ring. Mongul leaves him to be executed but he escapes, finds the body of another slain Green Lantern, and recovers their ring and uses their power Battery to recharge his ring. This alerts the Manhunters, and there's a close quarters battle. Just as he's about to be overrun, an alien Green Lantern named Katma Tui has picked up his 'distress signal' and comes in and rescues him. He shows his fighting abilities on his way out. She takes him to Oa for his training.

Act II:

On Oa, John instantly impresses Kilowog with his military training. He proves to be a "master builder" because of the way he constructs things to the minute detail, conserving willpower while keeping his constructs sturdy. Because of this, he clears basic training in a matter of moments, and is assigned to shadow a senior Lantern, naturally Katma, who has been reporting her findings on Biot has perturbed the Guardians and they her in return. John comes before them and mentions a yellow ring off hand, which alarms them deeply. He's assigned to Katma their "strongest investigator" though there are warnings that "this treads too close to a previous partnership." John and Katma heads to Mogo to find out more about the Manhunters, on the way they talk about Hal and Sinestro briefly, and they find out the last known Manhunter is in a royal museum on Xanshi.

Heading there, they meet the Xanshi royal family, Princess Yrra Cyril strikes John's fancy, to Katma's shagrin. They find an old retired Manhunter, John analyzes it, and realizes it's got Green Lantern batteries in its's head for power, and it's signaling the others to come. The Manhunters with Mongul fall upon Xanshi, and Katma can't defeat him, because his yellow constructs utterly decimate hers, she is defeated and tossed aside. Mongul starts to create War World engines with his ring, stating how his Yellow Lantern Corps will be much less vulnerable with a mobile base of operations, but Princess Yrra manages to face him and slyly remove his ring. Mongul attacks her, giving John a clear shot to kill Mongul, but it would kill Yrra too. John has flashes back to his sniper days in Afghanistan killing an innocent kid, and he can't do it. Mongul finishes and leaves. John has an idea to overload the engines, and plans to contain the blast. Katma comes in, and informs him he can't contain the yellow blast. John is furious and pursues Mongul, who allows John to expend virtually all of his energy charge and then takes John's ring, wearing it like a necklace. Katma helps evacuate Xanshi, while John tries to stop the engines from overloading, Katma has to drag him out and the planet explodes.

Act III:

Back on Oa, John stands trial for his actions. Yrra vows vengeance, setting up for her as Fatality in a sequel. Katma lobbies for him, but John doesn't help matters by accusing the Guardians of making the Manhunters. The Guardians strip him of his ring and banish him from the Corps. Katma is asked to escort him back to Earth. Katma makes a huge spaceship, based on their sci-fi conversation earlier, but as they start to head out, the Manhunters attack Oa, with Mongul at the fore. They are decimating, not just with numbers, but Mongul is simply unstoppable by green constructs. Katma leaves John to go join the fight. John can't leave, he sees Mongul down there unchallenged and he sets the ship to Kamikazee into the Manhunter ships and jumps out, free falling, aiming for mongul and manages to barely grab his ring as Mongul backhands him. John recovers, then we see him do the whole set up my sniper thing to snipe the Manhunter ships' power cores, blowing them. Meanwhile Mongul takes Katma to the Guardians and gives them a good talking to, before declaring the Age of Green Lanterns through. Meanwhile John fights some Manhunters on the ground and uses his last bit of energy to cut open one's face and charge his ring! He then uses the Manhunter Scan he created to make his own Manhunter called 5TEL, who is a Green Lantern, and thus, shuts down the Manhunters by hacking them from the inside.

John pursues Mongul to the Central Power Battery, where Mongul is about to destroy it, and then set up a new Corps, John instead flies into the power battery, and comes out with his ring 10,000% charged and ransacks Mongul, by using his immense power to actually build things out of available materials around him, stripping Mongul of his ring, like he too was stripped, and then beating the super strong being on even terms.

Mongul is put in the sciencells, but in the process, Sinestro is freed, he retrieves the yellow ring from evidence and heads to 'Qward' where he is welcomed back, and shown that dozens of Yellow rings have been finished by the weaponer. And inside their yellow power battery? Hal Jordan.

Meanwhile, John returns to Earth, and he's a different person now. He has a job, he has a girl, he may still have nightmares, but he doesn't have anything to prove anymore. He's Green Lantern.

Some awesome ideas there dude, I've always liked the idea of Mongul being in a movie. Giving him a yellow ring is a good way to tie him to a GL movie.

Your idea sounds more entertaining than the actual GL movie. I think Hal should definitely be very involved with any GL movie though. John and Hal should be the main characters of a GL movie if John is the GL in Justice League.

A sequel to a GL reboot definitely isn't a guarantee, so I'd rather they establish a villainous Sinestro and Hal Jordan as major characters in the first movie.

Thanks man, if it was possible to do John and Hal and Sinestro in focus for a big GL film, I'd be all for it.

Yes, there was a greater sense in FF of the GLC and its purpose in a universe inhabited by many characters. I still think the live-action GL movie is a good one, in my top 10 favorites, but one of my main criticisms was it's lack of Corps development. I had to look up many of their names after the movie because the characters were given only seconds on screen. Some of them were important characters to the GL mythos like Hannu, Isamot Kol, and Stel.

Uh...no. Reynolds got several best actor nominations in 2010 for Buried. He was also one of the main voices in the Croods and Turbo, both of which were successful at the box office. He's been on TV and in movies for 3 decades now and has such a large and diverse body of work that he'll always land roles.

Yea but Green Lantern was gonna be his ticket to superstardom. It wasn't. He'll never be a leading man in a big budget mainstream movie again.

I don't know where you personally draw the line at "super"stardom, but he's been a leading man for almost a decade. This is one of his upcoming projects, where he is the leading man again:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2326612/

He's 37 with a huge body of work spanning several genres, and it seems like the best is yet to come for him.

Good stuff! Far better than what WB/DC gave us. Take my 13 bucks

I also think a big problem was Hal was just an unlikeable character. He was so poorly written. For example, his stunt whilst testing the drones cost a load of people their jobs. Then he beats them up? Well he probably killed them seeing as he punched them through solid brick walls lol. How can anyone root for a guy like that?
What about his co-workers? Why can root for guys who attack another one 3-to-1 and beat the c**p out of him?

I hope the Rock isn't going to be John Stewart

Well, they're unlikable too, but at least they're not murders and we don't have to follow them for two hours.

I wouldn't mind a television show called Green Lantern Corps. Treat this show like Star Trek, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Voyager, Deep Space Nine, Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, Stargate SG-1... something like these shows, where it's a team of Green Lanterns on a ship, maybe led by Hal Jordan and John Stewart as our Kirk and Spock, and they're buddy-cops in space who run a ship with actors in alien make-up, and they're all wearing the same Green Lantern uniforms (like Star Trek, but they're all green), and they just patrol the galaxy as space-cops. You have different alien villains every week, little-to-no CGI, just a spaceship set and actors in make-up, and you can have all the CW-drama you can handle, with intergalactic politics and crazy-ass stories. The fans refer to it as GLC, and we're all bickering and raving about this week's new episode.

Or hoping it dies a quick death
