Green Lantern reboot ideas.

They can get ahead of Marvel Studios by announcing a John Stewart Green Lantern movie, especially if Marvel decides (for whatever reason) not to make a Black Panther movie.

With Will Smith or Idris Elba as John Stewart with Joseph Kosinski or Neil Bloomkamp directing. It needs to be more of an epic space opera with thrills, chills and of course good action and visuals. Kinda of like Prometheus but more exciting :woot:

Seriously. You already know i want a Hal Jordan movie more than a John Stewart one, but honestly if Idris Elba was the lead in a JS movie, I'd be WAY more excited for that. Seriously that would be way too perfect.

Elba as GL is on the same level as Patrick Stewart as Prof X, Bale as Batman, Cavill as Superman. Too perfect. Make this happen WB, you would have to idiots to let this opportunity slip through your fingers.

Right now Elba is on the cusp of superstardom, he's still cheap enough to hire for a movie like this, and it'll pay off once he explodes into superstardom

^I co sign this. With Kosinski or Bloomkamp as the director. :cwink:

I too think they should go with a Prometheus vibe. GL should be somewhat scary I think. A borderline horror scifi that's still PG-13 could fit in well with DC's tendency to make more mature superhero films than Marvel. I think audiences would love it.

A pre Red Lantern corps Atrocitus and Sinestro would work as the villains

Yes. Can't be too dark or scary though and the budget can't be too crazy like it was for Campbells GL film.

150-160 million production budget tops. Kosinski or Blookkamp directing with Idris Elba or Will Smith as John Stewart. Kosinski and Bloomkamp can work with their previous writing collaborators from previous films on the script with Goyer and or Johns as consultants on the story.

Than use this new upcoming IMAX Tech:

Imax Demos New Laser Technology to Mostly Bright Reception

A group of studio and exhibition executives, as well as filmmakers, gathered early this month to witness Imax’s newst toy — a laser projection prototype — in action.
Feedback has been bright, yet reserved for the final product.
The new system, which Imax showcased at its home office in Santa Monica, features dual 4K laser digital projectors for both 2D and 3D systems, the first of its kind, along with an enhanced sound system that represents the largest research and development investment in the history of Imax.
“This is a technology that I’ve been looking forward to coming online for a while now,” said Joseph Kosinski, director of “Tron: Legacy” and “Oblivion.” Kosinski added that he is most excited about the system’s impact on 3D presentation.
“Laser promises to bring up the brightness levels to where they always should have been for 3D,” said Kosinski, who was joined by »

Prometheus was awful though.

The tone in First Flight was perfect.

Part sci fi epic, part cop movie, part horror and with comedic elements that weren't overdone.

i loved Prometheus. I loved First Flight, I'd go a little bit more serious though

Guillermo Del Toro?

Surely he must want to make a space movie one of these days.

Blomkamp would be great too, though I wonder I doubt he'd be interested.

Guillermo Del Toro should do it if he has no say in the script. Seriously wtf Pacific Rim.

I thought Pacific Rim's script was awesome and hilarious.

Note that his intention with that movie was to make a simplistic cartoon anime-style cheesefest come to life.

GDT can do genuine drama as well though. Pan's Labyrinth.

I can't..... I don't even..... okay

I much prefer the campy style of that script to the cutesy 'clever' Whedon dialogue. That's for sure.

I can't read anymore of this. You have some good ideas for DC movies but I completely disagree with your taste in film. Avengers>Pacific Rim. How is that even a question? AHHHHHHH

Seriously. You already know i want a Hal Jordan movie more than a John Stewart one, but honestly if Idris Elba was the lead in a JS movie, I'd be WAY more excited for that. Seriously that would be way too perfect.

Both John and Hal are in my top 10 favorite characters. I don't prefer one over the other, although I think Kyle is the overall best titular GL. The problem with putting John in the live-action JLA movie is that people who have never read GL know next to nothing about him. Everyone knows Hal: he's the cocky pilot who got his ring from the dying alien. That story has been done numerous times outside of the comics.

Outside of the comics, John is known for JLA, where he got very little backstory. If WB wants JLA to seem like well-known heroes coming together (ala Avengers), then Hal is the only choice. If WB decides to use John, they need to get some projects together that would introduce America to him.

Or you could introduce him in the Justice League film...

Quiksilver isn't getting a solo movie before Avengers 2. Neither is Scarlet Witch. I'm sure that'll be fine too.

Hal works better in this Jl though. His relationship with Batman, Barry and all.

It's a completely different situation. They are being introduced to a well-established brand. One of the biggest reasons the Hulk was used for Avengers, despite other heroes having more Avengers history, is his name recognition. JLA has to brand build, which means the members with the most history and exposure to the public.

K. Well on the topic of brand recognition, I'd say that Hal's level of brand recognition, which is higher than John's, is outweighed by the negative association of the Hal Jordan brand, and I think more people would be excited to see something that wasn't Hal Jordan.

We certainly disagree there. A character is never defined by one event, and right now, DC has been hard-selling Hal as part of the JLA for almost 10 years.

If WB has any intention of using John, they need to get DC to ditch all of the Hal imagery that is in every retail store, replace Hal in all of the heavily-promoted JL DVDs , get some John Stewart toys in the stores, and maybe get a couple of animated specials on TV somewhere. He needs to be perceived as someone on the same level as Hal, not just a replacement.

Well he could, if his willpower was strong enough.

But yeah, he's got a serious man crush on Hal.

Agree w/both of you on that. Geoff goes a lil far w/the Hal love

Everyone knows Hal? think you're overestimating how many outside of Hal's comic fan base know him. Hal's brand recognition from non comic readers isn't big enough to be a real factor here. He's never really made much of an impact outside of his comic circle and the one that he did was an extremely negative one. JLU John has ongoing exposure on Netflix AND TV. I'm pretty sure his non comics fan base is larger than Hal's because of JLU. Also, seeing a black dude w/no mask fighting alongside Bats &Supes is very likely to generate more buzz w/the GA than Hal's brand recognition.

I hardly think one is above the other in terms of mainstream popularity. If you ask an average person who the GL is, they'll either say the white one(Hal) or the black one(John), or they'll say both.

The audience could care less who the GL is in the movie, and they don't really care about "Green Lantern"--They just care about the ring. And what "buzz" are you talking about?

If there is one movie that needed the 'Star Wars' treatment i.e. being thrown right into the middle of the GL corp world and then let the audience pick things up as they go along, it is a GL movie.

Like Thor, setting so much of the movie on Earth is a mistake. Everything that is interesting about those two characters happens in their respective realms.
