Green Lantern reboot ideas.

I still say Jensen Ackles is the best choice for Hal Jordan.

As awesome as he is in Smallville and Supernatural, and given his exposure to comicbook media via the aforementioned properties, Ackles would not elicit studio confidence to lead a tentpole/bockbuster film.

i wouldnt mind seeing a GL movie with Jon Stewart... and i would like to see the next reboot focus on the emotional spectrum and the weaknesses that each spectrum has

yeah i agree with you there...
i was thinking that if Arrow/Flash are in a separate universe from the films, then they could use Ackles as Hal for that universe.

Green Lantern may be hard to pull off with a tv budget, but there is a solution... it just doesn't seem like something the studios would do...
I think WB should do a Green Lantern TV movie. They should spend as much $ on this 90 minute movie as they would spend on a season of Arrow or The Flash, because a GL story is basically impossible to do without a big budget. It'd be smart to first intro this Green Lantern in both The Flash and Arrow, but out of costume in both shows.

The stigma around direct to video movies or tv movies is unfortunate, there would most likely be a lot of bad buzz around the project, especially when compared to Marvel's film slate..i can imagine it now... "Marvel's making Ant-Man, while DC is doing tv movies? :cmad::cmad::cmad:"

a Green Lantern movie is probably really unlikely for a while, and Arrow is a high quality show with awesome writing, i would love to see a take on GL in the Arrow world. a tv show or a tv movie may be the best we can hope for as far as solo live action Green Lantern projects go. and honestly, tv or not, Arrow is damn good writing imo, and the acting is mostly pretty damn solid too. i have no doubt that an Arrowverse Green Lantern story would at least be better than the Green Lantern movie.

i think Green Lantern will be introduced in the MOS universe, but i'm not certain it will be Hal Jordan..But if GL is intro'd on Arrow or Flash, it'll definitely be Hal, given his connections to both Ollie and Barry

The DCAU

Comics unfortunately are not mainstream. Hal's lack of ticket sales shows that good comic book sales doesn't equate to good ticket sales. Hal's popularity amongst his comic fans didn't make the GA give a crap. He still lacks icon status and I doubt WB/DC efforts to change that will ever work

He already has been &w/great results. Superman TAS, JL, Static Shock, JLU. He was absent for the DCAU & it was awesome. Hal becomes irreplaceable when he reaches the importance level of a Bats/Supes/WW(in other words, never). If that was ever gonna happen, it would've happened by now. It's not like DC hasn't been trying

None of those are titular releases or PG-13 movies. You said you had seen "GL done without Hal", not " I really liked one of the kid's version of Justice League when I was young". Where have you seen another Lantern solely headline a movie/TV show that leads you to think Jordan can be replaced?

I can save you the time: it doesn't exist.

After Marc Guggenheim tweeted the Ferris Air pic, it seems like only a matter of time before we see Hal. My *guess* is that Jordan will emerge on Arrow, but if he gets his ring, we'll see that primarily on Flash. Lots of fans of the GA/GL comics want to see the Jordan-Queen team-up, but the GOTU/GLC concepts don't seem to mesh with the smaller-scale, grounded approach of the Arrow show.

The DCAU had a GL & it wasn't Hal, thus it's GL done w/out Hal. The mark left by that show(which still airs) will still be here long after the inferior, much less successful features that used Hal have faded from memory. I'll take a critically acclaimed, time tested, well written "kid's version" over a lousy PG-13 version(like JL:WAR) that seems more like it was written by a 12 year old who just learned how to curse & is trying waaay too hard to be "cool".

Oh. So your argument equates to "WB hasn't replaced Hal in a solo feature, therefore Hal is irreplaceable" ? I think you're putting too much stock in the decisions made by a studio that you yourself refer to as "Warner Bumbles". The fact that a studio famous for dumbass decisions(like allowing Hal's mess of a film to be released in the 1st place) w/comicbook properties hasn't done something doesn't mean it can't be done. It more than likely means the exact opposite. It can and SHOULD be done....unless they like losing more money w/Hal.

Goyer could probably come up with a sweet GL story, but i think he works best when he's working with another writer. Goyer coming up with the story, and someone else writing the screenplay could make for a very nice GL movie

As a television version of Hal Jordan, I could see Ackles working out quite well. Though, I must say, David Boreanaz would likely take issue without not getting first shot at playing Hal on TV.

David Boreanaz would have been a fine Batman or Hal Jordan. But i think Boreanaz (44) may be a bit old for a Hal Jordan alongside Grant Gustin (24) and (32)

Someone said that even Ackles would be too old and he's 36.

Ackles is definitely my first choice, and he can look younger than 36, but it may be wise to get someone between Barry's and Ollie's ages. But Ackles would be a very smart choice for Hal, he's already had a lot of exposure on the CW, if they decided to do a tv movie spin off, there would already be a lot of fans of Ackles that would be attracted to the program, not to mention the ever expanding number of CW DC fans that already exist

I'm thinking that we will see Hal Jordan in the Arrowverse before we see another live action film version of Green Lantern. And I'm fine with that.

Walking outta the theater, Green Lantern was my least favorite movie of all time. i was obsessed with Johns' run before it came out, and i expected the movie to at least be on the same quality level as Johns' stuff. But after repeated viewings, I've actually come to appreciate the film a lot more, it's not the unwatchable piece of garbage i once thought it was. It's got a few great scenes, and i encourage everyone to rewatch it with an open mind.
Also, the Green Lantern animated series is top notch, very high quality stuff. It's on Netflix, check it out yall

I just burned through the first 20 episodes of the animated series. Top notch stuff indeed. Much better than JLU imo.

my only gripe is how weak they made the Anti-Monitor but seriously what a great series. I'm so pissed they didn't get to do the War of Light or the Sinestro Corps, it was all set up perfectly

I know, I love the animated series.

GL 2011 could have been a great tentpole movie. Just too many cooks in the kitchen. After reading the second draft? of the script, it would have been great. The only problems I had with it was they fought Parallex on Oa in the second act and the final battle was with Hector in the 3rd act! THey should have left Hector out completely and made parallex like the giant yellow lizard/demon create in the teased pictures instead of giant head in a cloud. Hal should have been in space the whole movie after he got the ring and came back to earth in the last 3 minutes to hook up with Carol. JMO

That's so disappointing that the Green Lantern film failed. Personally I think the character has more potential than some of the major Marvel properties... (it had at least as much potential for mainstream success as Cap, Iron Man and Thor had)

Such a shame. With a script that isn't complete ****, and a charismatic lead, GL could have become the next Iron Man...In fact, i think GL is a better character than IM, with way better stories to build movies off of. The Iron Man character got lucky, not too many people gave a **** about him (even comic book fans), pre-RDJ.

The writers of the GL movie are so goddamn dumb. Idk if anyone read that leaked early GL draft, but it was SO much better than what we got. So much better. If they had made that film, I'm confident that there already would be a GL sequel, and also, that film would have been the first film in a new DC film universe

A green lanten mini series like marvel is doing would be better,tv or netflix.

Agreed. I feel that it would be a smart, strategic move on WB/CW's take in putting GL on the small screen because it's going to be a while till we see another GL movie anytime soon. I would like to see Hal Jordan fitting in the Arrowverse with Ollie and Barry actually. It could work very well thinking about it.

I don't know. It's a bit tricky. I mean I assume you would need to cut out the Oa stuff. Also what about sinestro?

Strong must be Sinestro one more time, by any means necessary. I've watched the post-credits scene to GL so many times, and it deflates me knowing that there's no follow-up.

He did well, but I'm sure they can find someone just as good. When a film fails that big you have to burn it. Burn it with fire!

Wow. I think they were both in the same boat as far as the GA is concerned. I remember the era when DC had the Superman films & then the Batman films. At the time Marvel wasn't doing much of anything. They were pretty much dominating in the comics, but they weren't doing anything outside of them. Even as a kid I figured that once Marvel got it's **** together that they'd dominate the film's too because the characters somehow managed to seem realistic. It's like somehow Stan & crew created a universe that was meant to translate to live action. IronMan is honestly a much easier sell than GL is. Very easy to get the GA to follow & be interested in. We're not very far off from that type of stuff now tech wise. IronMan is not my favorite, but I do like him & I always knew that when SFX caught up w/him that he'd do well in a movie. He's perfect for it. I didn't think he'd be THIS successful tho. IronMan's one of those concepts that I figured would do well unless the people making the film ****ed pretty much everything up. To me the GL concept is exactly the opposite. GL is one of those concepts that I figured would do poorly unless the people making the film got pretty much everything perfect.

Leading up to Ironman's release, Marvel made all the right moves. When RDJ was cast I knew they had gold. His real life struggles were right in line w/some of Tony's and he was always a great actor. It still holds up as the most perfect casting in CBM history IMO. He's a great character that got a great movie. The audience got lucky.

When I 1st heard of GL's casting not being for John I knew failure was coming. IMO that was a bad move for a franchise that couldn't afford to make any. I believe my exact words in the Summer box office predictions thread were "GL will make the least". The more I heard about it the worse it sounded. They made mistake after mistake &they paid for it. No surprise there. I wasn't disappointed. They deserved to fail. Failure of that magnitude will hopefully encourage them to do better.

Agreed. It was a potential gone to waste. Like before the film came out, no one knew who Hal Jordan is/was because the GA were more familiar with John Stewart based on his popularity on the JL/JLU series. I remember when GL was first announced, I was really excited about it because I thought it would open doors for a saga series (ala Star Wars/Star Trek) alongside the DCU. I felt like it was such a let-down after seeing it a couple times. It really could have been done way better. Oh well, hopefully they take heed in learning from their mistakes in revamping him back to the big screen again.

Only JL/JLU fanatics have that point of view. Hal is much more famous than the other Lanterns. For people introduced to Green Lantern in the 60s, 70s, or 80s, either through animation or the comics, Hal was GL.

1994-2004's Rebirth was a different time because John was GL on screen and Kyle was the lead GL in the comics, but Geoff Johns taking GL to new heights in comic sales and the money/attention from JL: A New Frontier killed any chances that the GL franchise would start with anyone but Hal. Guy, Kyle, and John are all great characters in their own right, but Hal's the icon.

If there is ever to be a GLC franchise, with all of those characters, it will have to go through the Justice League, a reboot with Hal, or introduction through the Arrow/Flash shows. Right now, WB isn't even giving the other Lanterns a shot with the animated universe.

When you're much more famous than the other lanterns, people don't ask "why'd they turn him white?" when your big budget movie is about to come out. This wasn't just in the U.S. either, people all over the world were expecting to see a black guy again. I'm sure this didn't help his abysmal foreign box office. It's obvious that none of those things from the 60s, 70s, or 80s left a lasting impression. Hal still means nothing to the GA.

LOL. This icon stuff again? IIRC you said he was more iconic than Capt. Kirk. You greatly overestimate Hal's place in pop culture. Hal's no icon. If he ever gets as important as a Bats, Supes or WW you'll have something. Notice how they(and NOT Hal) were there for JL/JLU and Trapped in Time. They ARE icons. Being popular in comics doesn't make you an icon because comics aren't popular. Hal will never be an icon as long as the GA doesn't give a **** about him. This is reality.

The Green Lantern movie's failure can't be attributed to the Hal Jordan character, that is a completely illogical argument. The reason that movie failed was simply because it was a badly written movie.

It's looking more and more like Hal will be the GL in the new movies. They seem to be going the New 52 route for the team.

I'm scared to think what would have happened had Warner Bumbles tried to tell one of the other Lantern's stories. Hal had his origin told and re-told several times in the comics, and at least 3 times in animation before the movie. Anyone who didn't have a passing knowledge of that iconic scene was going to be a hard sell as a viewer.

To Warner Bumbles credit, at least they got the origin scene right in the movie. However, Guy, John, and Kyle have much trickier origins because they are all tied to Hal. When I imagine some WB writer bypassing all of that to give John a new origin story, I shutter. It wouldn't have worked, period.

Hal Jordan should appear in JL, he should not be ignored but there's no reason why John Stewart cannot appear in future GL movie, I think his inclusion will definitely help the GL franchise.

The best case scenario would be for the JL franchise to spawn a GL franchise that includes the 4 main titular Lanterns. However, with so much riding on SvB, whether we even see JL, much less spin-off franchises, remains to be seen. Right now, I'm much more hopeful for Flash and Arrow bringing the GLC back to life in live-action.
