"Guardian Archangel:" The Official Character Discussion Thread

With films like this, people are going to end up getting minimal screen time. As a new character, you'd think he'd get a little more screen time -- but I was happy with what they gave him. I would have loved to see him fight though in the final battle.

Oh well, I can wait until X4.

I think Angel was an effective way of portraying the whole conflict of taking the cure and having to change to be accepted by society. I liked the emotional arc of his character in the movie.
It's a pity he wasn't just marketed as that though instead of misleading us into thinking that he becomes a member of the team and kicks mutant ass. He was a sympathetic character in X3 and a symbol of liberation.

Yup. Even in the scene with the park, and this I'm proud of the screenwriters for doing, him soaring in the sky was a symbol of liberation and humans and mutants beginning to live together in peace.

So even though Angel had a small amount of screentime, anyone else think he had some of the most breathtaking scenes in the movie? With his flight?

I thought the effects for his flight were perfect. Especially with how he flipped his father around after saving him.

That was a great sight to see.

I loved the POV shot of Angel flying down from Worthington Labs too.

His flight scenes were very natural. Although they had virtually all been spoiled in advance, watching them on the big screen was a great experience.

Could Angel have really done any fighting? I mean, it's not like he has crazy talons to scratch people's eyes out with or anything...

He could've. His wings would give him an advantage too.

Let's see, he could:

~ Fly down at high speeds and basically slice your head off with his wings
~ Grab you, fly you up really high and drop you
~ Drop heavy objects on you from above
~ Use long range weapons from above
~ Double team with other characters

A swan's wings can kill a man...

Of course, Angel can fight. :up: I wanted to see him with a bazooka. Oh,well...

He could also grab random Brotherhood pawns with his wings, while grounded, and just toss them up in the air.

And with one smack of both his wings, he could knock out a few more pawns.

He's enigmatic to the theater viewers who didn't have idea who he is.they were thinking actually if he's going to be in the battle. unfortunately that didn't happen. so my friends and I just settled to discuss his prettiness instead.

I thought Angel would've been developed well enough.

I was wrong. :(

I loved the shot of Leech looking out his window at Angel flying past the GG Bridge!

It was pretty amazing. I really liked how he was used as a symbol for peace and freedom in this movie.

Q: (To Ben Foster) How were the wings? How did it feel to have wings.

BF: It felt really good, actually. It's a drag getting up early to get feathers glued to you by strangers.

Q: How long did it take?

BF: About four hours, the whole thing … so, but following that as the best example that I can think of is, even non-actors, you know, you go home and you put on your pajamas and walk around the house and if anyone comes around you put on a dress … Not me, I gave that up …

(Laughter)

BF: But, you know, you put on a suit and you're like, hey I'm in a suit. And then you have wings on and it's amazing. You walk onto set and you have this great corner office looking at downtown city and you think (he whispers his excitement), I have wings! It's a really cool, wonderful feeling, very hard to describe.

Q: So, Ben, have you seen your action figure yet?

BF: Do I have one?

Q: Yeah …

BF: NO ****?!?

(Ben is extremely excited. Everyone starts laughing.)

BF: I'm hoping. I didn't get into this to watch my ass fly. I want a toy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BF: I saw it and I went ape****. I saw it in the movie theatre and I thought, this is the greatest thing I've ever seen. This is so exciting, stuff's blowing up, people are saying cool stuff, people are flying … I saw it with Ellen, we were alone in the theatre, it was the greatest thing I've ever … I was cheering in the theatre. I'm such a sucker for this stuff …
Q: What were the coolest effects you got to do?
SA: Well, mine pale in comparison to Ben's just because he jumped out of a …
AP: … building …
SA: … a building, with wings on.
BF: Naked … naked falling …
Where's the damn toy? :mad: :mad:
I think him and Ellen are dating. They were alone together in the theatre.. Plus there are alot of pics with them at premieres together!!!!
Thinking now, I'm happier with how Angel was done in the movie.
I didn't even think of this before, but the end scene in the park, seeing Angel flying freely made me realize that he has started to bond, and learn to appreciate/love his mutantcy. :D
Which goes full circle from when we first see him, as a little kid scared of his wings. But now, he flies without fear.
As he should.
I just really hope they bring him back and not use that as an excuse to keep him in San Francisco and not in X4.
Ben said he very much wanted to do another one, so I hope Fox takes advantage of that offer.
