Bautista talking about James Gunn's firing and the comments he made about it, at CinemaCon

“I am contractually obligated [to do the third movie], but I think that Marvel and Disney –– if I had really stood my ground and said, ‘I don’t want to do this without James’ –– I think that they are decent enough that they would’ve let me out of my contract,” Bautista told Variety‘s Marc Malkin at CinemaCon on Tuesday.

“I just spoke my mind and was honest about the way I felt about it. I thought he was given a raw deal. I thought it was a bad call, bad decision,” he said.

“I wanted to bring it home. These guys are like family to me and I wanted to be involved in the third one,” Bautista said. “I wanted to use James’ script because it’s a beautiful script. Moving forward without James was a real personal issue with me.”

Marvel were ok with letting Hugo Weaving not come back even though he was contracted to them so I'm sure they would of let Bautista leave.

It probably would not of been good for on set morale to have actors around that didn't want to be there.

It all worked out in the end anyway and Bautista may also land a role in Gunn's suicide Squad sequel.

Just now seeing this. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised given how tumultuous things have been with Gunn/Disney but that’s a little longer than I would’ve guessed.

Honestly James, forget SS2. Leave that and pick up the pieces of a meaningful franchise. I know he won’t do it but I selfishly wish he would.

They couldn't. If they had then any of their stars that wanted out or more money would kick up a fuss publicly. Weaving was different as they didn't need him and he was very easy to replace.

Going to be interesting to see what Gunn does with Thor. I don't think he should be in the whole movie, if he is involved in the Warlock fight it would mean he is on Thanos level. Thor was able to hang with Thanos when out of shape. If he gets back in shape I don't see Warlock being a good enough challenge. Going to be GOTG searching for new Gamora and Warlock set up being a side villain.

Actually, Warlock did fight Thor fairly early in his existence in the comics, back when the character was just referred to as 'Him.'
