Nope. They're essentially pinch-hitting for the Nova Corps until Richie gets around to re-forming them. I wouldn't be surprised to see the GotG and Nova crossover frequently, though. Nova appears in the Guardians' first issue, in fact.

I swear, since he agreed to find innocent worlds for Galactus to slaughter, he's been downright unbearable! :cmad:

They really haven't been innocent though. The world in Nova had life.

I think Marvel's dropping the ball by making him Big G's herald again and finding world's with life. That was his whole schimdt to becoming a hero.....he destroyed worlds with life on it and wanted to atone for it. Now he doesn't care any more. WTF!

Yeah. I don't get what a planet's having life has to do with being innocent, is all. Hence:

But it seems like the plan with the Surfer is to make him more hands-on and violent than just a cosmic philosopher. Like I said before, the current Surfer would've punched the Surfer of a few years ago for being such a *****.

Innocent world=no life. SS has always been known to be a pacifist and to hold life highly in regard. Now that he's Galactus herald again, he's finding worlds with life, intelligent life at that!

I still don't see how "innocent" means without life, but okay, I get what you were saying now.

The Surfer's a dick now. That's basically what it comes down to. Maybe he'll have an explanation in the next issue, though. He didn't seem too unlike his familiar old self in the Fantastic Four arc he was recently in.

Well.............innocent.....Corp I really don't know how to explain it any easier. But I agree he has been a huge bastich since he got back with big G and it doesn't make any sense only becuase he went back due to the AW.

I imagine it's something along the lines of the Silver Surfer finally coming to recognize that Galactus is a necessary evil and has adopted the whole philosophy that death is what gives life it's meaning and value.

So in that light. While he still values life greatly and thinks it's beautiful or whatever. He doesnt see the need to mindlessly protect ALL life anymore.

... or he's just a dick now.

The people on that planet hadn't done anything to any other planets as far as we know. How are they not innocent? I mean, they're jerks because of the whole class system thing, but in the grand scheme of the universe and all the planets the Surfer could've chosen to feed to Galactus, theirs seems pretty innocent.

Do you only eat evil food? Does it matter to you if the organisms that lived on the cow that made up your steak were friendly organisms or not?

Well didn't Nova purposely fetch planets without life? I just figured since SS respected life so much and wanted to atone for the past, he would have sought out planets that didn't have life but juicy enough for Galactus to snack on.

Nova, Galactus old herald, not Richard Rider.

I think Galactus started requiring planets with life a while ago because he required more power that only a planet robust enough to support life could provide or something. Granted, the Surfer could still try and find non-sentient life, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what explanation, if any, he has for choosing this particular planet that's filled to the brim with sentients.

I thought it was because he has less individual freedom than he did the first time around. He seems to be in zealot mode whenever I see him these days. Plus, I think they still got Stardust too. Maybe she/he found it?

I don't think Galactus is clouding the Surfer's mind in any way. I'd have to reread the Annihilation: Silver Surfer mini to be sure, but I think in fighting Ravenous and the Wave, he came to the realization that the galaxy was more dangerous than ever and he didn't have the luxury of standing on the sidelines as a pacifist anymore. He sought an active role and, for whatever reason, decided that he would be most useful ensuring that Galactus could defend himself from any future threats by becoming his herald again.

If the Surfer is a cosmic philosopher, I think he's just come to embrace Galactus' necessity to the universe's greater well-being as the central tenet of his philosophy. By serving Galactus, he's serving the greater good in the most effective way he can.

Greeting the Guardians: Quasar

Here's what I posted in response on Newsarama:

I can't stress enough how much I hate Phyla's new personality. Back when she first showed up in Genis' comic, she kicked ass. She was smart, sassy, a bona fide powerhouse, and easily a more suitable candidate for the Captain Marvel legacy than crazy Genis. In short, she was everything Genis was not at the time, and it worked well for her.

Since getting the quantum bands, outside of helping Nova out at the end of Annihilation, she's basically alternated between whining about her inadequacies and fawning over Moondragon with some of the cheesiest dialogue I've seen this side of daytime soaps. It pains me to see her fall so far from her genuinely promising beginnings. I can't say I was ever overly attached to Wendell, but I'd much rather get him back if Phyla is going to continue to be characterized as god-awfully as she has been for the last year. I really liked the visual of Wendell as a quantum energy construct, too.

The Annihilation stuff has featured a lot of rebirths--Thanos, Drax, Adam Warlock, Moondragon. Phyla's is the first one I'm completely unhappy with.

Wonder if we'll see Phy (and the other Guardians) deal at all with Capt. Phayk-Vell. I'd think she'd have some serious, serious issues with that.
I think she would too, but I doubt she'll ever even learn about him. I know the Guardians are supposed to have a Secret Invasion crossover, but I wouldn't hold my breath for any sort of Phyla/Skrull-Vell meeting. There's a pretty clear separation between Marvel cosmic and Marvel proper right now, and only Nova seems able to straddle that line. As far as the writers handling Captain Skrullvel are concerned, it seems like Hulkling was the only one of his kids worth mentioning.
