Well the content of GW is slowing down, anet are focusing on GW2, and there will be no more major updates so eventually people will stop dropping off once they have finished what they wanted to achieve or just get sick of the same old stuff.

I can see were he is getting at. Just like when Starcraft 2 comes out the orignal will die out. So then they wouldn't be updating it.

Ehem, Anet (Gaile Gray inparticular) announced that GW1 will no long recieve any more major updates as the dev team are working on GW2 and no longer have time with GW1. I can dig up the original post, but it was posted ages ago by Gaile right after they brought out HM for EotN.

Guild Wars isn't Starcraft. The weekly patching suggests that minor updates will continue for some time to come. Once Guild Wars 2 comes out I would expect content updates for Guild Wars to shrink to minimal levels, but I do believe that there will be at least some small amount evolution in the game beyond the release of the sequel.

And then the Bonus Mission Pack came out.

ArenaNet have occasionally said things or done things, then changed their minds and done something else entirely. They've also said that another expansion will be unlikely, but not ruled out. The truth of the matter is that the average player just doesn't know where Guild Wars will go. It's for that reason when I read something like, "there will be no more major updates," I think to myself, "No, there will probably not be much more coming, but never say 'never' because it just might happen." :cwink:

You must admit though, it would be silly for them to focus on major updates and an expansion if they are developing an entire new game that goes into beta later this year. EotN was designed to wrap up GW1 so they can start GW2. Also on the comment about the bonus mission pack, the bonus was made at the same time as EotN, Gaile stated that they wanted to give EotN and then the Hard Mode some time to kind of stretch out GW1 so people don't have to wait so long for new content (being GW2). The only things that may get a touch up here and there are the skill balances, and Anet also announced that they will continue with special events such as Wintersday, Halloween etc. Like I said, Anet said that there will be no more major updates as far as GW1 goes.

I would not admit that, no. It's well known that ArenaNet have been developing multiple titles concurrently, e.g. concept art getting churned out for Nightfall while quests get hooked up for Factions etc. The Making of Nightfall DVD has a bit of information on the development structure and is worth a look if you get the chance.

Agreed on Eye of the North being designed (or redesigned - see Utopia) to wrap up plot threads in Guild Wars, however the start of the Guild Wars 2 project was actually quite some time ago. The same theory of overlapping development can be applied to the Bonus Mission Pack against Eye of the North as well.

Here's the thing, originally GW was going to have 2 add-on's released every year for the next few years, that was there grand plan, however GW had evolved into a somewhat problematic game for them. Certain features of the game ended up becoming a nightmare for the dev team and figured the only thing to do was learn from there mistakes and rebuild from scratch for a new game. This is how they came up with EotN, is would tie up any loose ends and set the scene for there new game GW2. As I stated previously, Gaile Gray announced that GW will no longer recieve anymore major updates as they were finished with GW1, however they were not going to leave GW players out in the cold, Gaile stated that the first game would continue to run on their servers after GW2 goes live for quite some time, but would not recieve anymore new content.

I hear you on the point of overlapping development but isn't exactly true. You see, the only time Anet overlapped future material with current was when the Sorrow's Furnace update came out and when they brought in Hard Mode for Prophecies and Factions. Everything else related to future expansions was already designed during the development of the title, for example, the elite missions (Warren and The Deep) of Factions, Domain of Anguish for Nightfall, and Hard Mode for Nightfall and EotN, but was held on to and released later to all the players so they didn't rush through everything all at once and then complain later why there is no new content. I can remember on the boards the stir it created when Gaile made the announcement that there no longer be anymore major updates. People started to complain that GW would die, but I think after the realisation that a whole new game was on the horizon and they have the incentive to title farm for some unlockables people have let it slide.

    Avangarde X,

Can you please provide information sources for the claim that content was made, but "was held on to and released later to all the players so they didn't rush through everything all at once and then complain later why there is no new content."?

I've never heard of this claim before and I'd be interested to know where it came from.

*sigh* this is going to involve a heap of digging through guildwarsguru forums :csad:, perhaps in the Gaile post sections could cut down on search time, you're going to have to leave it with me for a bit. I'll also post up any other related info concerning the cut in updates.

LMAO, different strokes for different folks I guess, the fun factor comes being in a friendly guild that does a lot of stuff together. I have known them for 2 years and 3 months now and I consider them good friends, we have had so many laughs together.

That's often the trick with Guild Wars. Much of the "fun factor" is in being with a group of people inside the game who's interests and values are compatible so that the in-game companionship adds to the playing experience. Once you're in a guild that suits you the game can really shine. :yay:
