Fantasy Guy Ritchie Directing Disney's Aladdin

He can barely hold a note on his own - you can hear it when he is synchronizing with Jasmine.

Again, I must be hearing something different because he's hitting all the right notes. I'm actually surprised how similar his singing voice sounds to the original.

Visually, it's a solid representation.

I kinda like Will Smith's Genie, at least the overall tone and approach.

Aladdin can carry a tune...he just isn't a legit singer, and doesn't have much of a belt. Jasmine is a much stronger singer.

Aladdin should be charismatic and smiling most of the time. He did seem to be having a good time and laughing during the opening chase though

I didn’t think the new trailer was much better than the last, to tell you the truth. Jasmine isn’t in it much, Aladdin has one facial expression, Jafar isn’t making an impression, and Will Smith is playing himself - again. Maybe the effects are better, but this looks just as bland and cheesy as it always has IMO.

I’m happy y’all enjoyed it though, I’m not trying to rain on the parade.
Thanks

For me Will Smith playing himself might be as close as we can get to a modern day Genie in the absence of the great Robin Williams. I thought the visuals on Genie were also a massive improvement on what we saw before and of course this is something very difficult to get 100% right in live action. I would hope Jasmine is in the film plenty, but I get what you're saying about Aladdin and Jafar.

Numan Acar who’s the captain of the guard in this very movie also looks like a Jafar.

Not for this I don’t think. The exciting part of casting Will Smith as the Genie is because we want to see Will Smith as the Genie.

That’s obviously where we disagree. I don’t think there’s anything exciting anymore about Smith playing himself. We all know what to expect from him by now when he does it. The magic tricks and rapping are, for me, the equivalent of throwing a fresh coat of paint on an old car.

I was never against him injecting some of his own personality and style into the character, because he’s obviously a very charming guy, but it would’ve been nice to see him switch it up in some way. And maybe he will, but it doesn’t look like it.

Just as you wouldn’t have wanted Robin Wiiliams to go outside his comfort zone when he was voicing the character. You wanted Robin Williams dialed to 11.

Actually, I might’ve been very interested in that. I’m not at all opposed to actors trying new things or playing against type. Regardless, it’s not really a fair comparison from my perspective. I’ve had ten times the exposure to Will Smith than I have Robin Williams.

EDIT: But I don’t want to derail the thread or turn this into a back-and-forth, so I’ll respectfully leave it at that.

I liked this trailer a lot. Jasmine and Genie and the look of the movie were cool; Aladdin and Jafar were less clear. But I'm not a fan of the original, so I'm not so concerned with them getting it "right".

I couldn't tell who was in the background but the colors and voice, I assumed it was meant to be a joke about Prince or something
That would have also been awesome! Get the guy who plays Little Sweet in the Dr. Pepper commercials to play Prince in that clip!

Looks loud, colorful, and instantly forgettable. I like Jasmine but Aladdin is too bland and Jafar is too young and not nearly menacing enough.

I had such a crush on him in The Mummy .

Me too!!! :hrt::hrt::hrt: Too bad he didn't get more to do in the movies, but what he did was awesome!

I had no idea Naveen Andrews played Jafar too! Yeah, he would have been great. I just found the actor in the trailer to be very blah. But then the voice work on the animated Jafar is one of my faves in the Disney canon.

After watching that trailer...I wanna know who thought it was a good idea to release that awful genie tease before this trailer, and then I wanna know if that person was fired or demoted from ever making such decisions again. This trailer was like night and day and this should have been the first glimpse of the genie.

Yeah, what a strange and idiotic decision. It only created unnecessary negativity, and GA guys I know don't check again once they see something to put them off a film.

IMO even in the original Aladdin was the weakest link out of all the other characters

I’d say Eddie Murphy is the closest thing we could’ve gotten.

I finally saw the trailer. It always confuses me how a movie can look so expensive and some how cheap at the same time. I think I am going to see this in theaters. If simply for Jasmine. Though overall it looks like it could be fun.
