Fantasy Guy Ritchie Directing Disney's Aladdin

Just got back from Disney World, where they were showing a special exclusive "Aladdin" clip featuring "One Jump Ahead".

Instead of just Aladdin singing it as his character introduction, it's folded into his scene of meeting Jasmine and it's about both of them running from the Sultan's men together. It was...OK, but suffered from the same strange lack of energy that some of the other clips have. The actor playing Aladdin just doesn't have the cheeky, irreverent verve of the cartoon character. It's beautifully put together and very colorful but it's still inferior to the cartoon. So far Will Smith and the actress playing Jasmine seem to be the only good fit for their roles.

I hope the Cobra-Scene is in

ok, now I hope THAT scene is in

Probably, considering we've seen little from Jafar. However, judging from the soundtrack listing's order, it seems like the reprise of Prince Ali that Jafar sings has been removed from the remake. Makes sense really.

Well they’ve shown what they’ll do to Jafar...

I'm expecting blandness from both Aladdin and Jafar, which is....unfortunate.
When the main protagonist and main antagonist are bland that's definitely not good. Aladdin has bland moments from what we've seen so far, but I actually like him far more than the guy playing Jafar.

They clearly only cast Jafar for eye candy. I wish they’d let Gilbert Godfried be Iago again.

Yeah the one thing I’m not really looking forward to is Jafar.

It looks like hot garbage.

And if anyone is appalled by how bad Disney's live action remake of Aladdin looks? Don't just boycott that film. Boycott all of Disney's live action remakes. That includes The Lion King and Lady and the Tramp.

Because if you contribute to The Lion King being hit, you are not showing Disney anything other than you want more of this horse****. Bad reviews won't mean a thing. Disney cares only about the bottom line and pure profit. Aladdin could completely tank and lose hundreds of millions of dollars and Disney would not bat an eye if The Lion King makes over a billion.

Aladdin looks like crap, the CGI that was crapped on the original film on the enterance to the cave looks just as fake as the teaser and doesn't have any of the style or flare the CGI one did, this has none and feeling not of the cast members even Will Smith as Genie. The CGI of him is atrocious and Disney is getting raked over the coals on how poor this is and looks bland/boring and none of it is making me go "Oh it looks like an event film", same for Lion King. Can't we just re-issue the original films with some updated animation because they still hold up really good to this day, both Aladdin and Lion King and two of them in my opinion are the best animated films of the 90s among others. We don't need an update, we don't need a live-action remake of Lion King which isn't even live-action, it's CGI, don't need a live-action remake of Aladdin as it's already been made, i mean maybe do a new adaptation of Aladdin and his wonderful life than do a remake of the Disney film.

I hope the people who saw the trailer and didn't like what they saw then speak with your wallet, and if your tired of Disney's lazy halfassed cashgrab remakes of their classics, don't pay to see them and that's how your gonna send your message. So if you are sick of this lazy **** as much as I am, do not pay to see any of their live action remakes and just contribute to diminishing returns. I have yet to give them a single cent for these casghrab efforts and I will continue to do so. That is the only way they will consider stopping. Because if they keep making money, no matter how bad the word of mouth and reviews are, Disney will not give a damn and keep making them. And if any film of live-action bombs which has happened to Dumbo then Disney will be like "oh wow, i guess people are tired of this! i guess audiences doesn't want this!" and that's how your gonna send your message. And if they are hits and make a billion dollars, all it takes is just one of them and one be saying "Oh i wanna see Lion King" and if your like "Aladdin looks like crap but the other ones i wanna go see" then it defeats the purpose, cause if Aladdin underperforms then it doesn't mean cause Disney can absorb that hit in the face, no problem. But if Lion King is a big hit then they are gonna keep these remakes, i guarantee it, no matter how bad the reviews are for Aladdin, no matter how many people don't go to see it, no matter how big of a flop it is, it doesn't matter cause if Lion King makes a billion dollars that just shows them you still want more of that, just watch, watch this all unfold.

I mean your gonna get live-action remakes of Little Mermaid or Pocahontas, it's going to happen, i guarantee it and all but eventually the bottom will completely fall out and they are just gonna get diminishing returns, because they are no longer about the ideals that Walt Disney built his company around. They are about greed, power and manipulation of your nostalgia.

If not? That what is the point? There is no need for lazy live action Disney remakes and it is a shame that films like this get the pass and make millions. Like i said, eventually your just gonna get diminishing returns and soon the bottom will eventually fall.

I want the Disney that made the original and was a genuine trendsetter back in the good old days. Not the current version which is just pumping out reheated left overs, bad Pirates sequels with a upcoming reboot, sequels to Pixar films (except Incredibles 2 which i wanted a sequel since 2004 and Toy Story 4 is not needed when the story ended with 3 as your just beating a dad horse after 3) and failed adaptations of parts of their park like Tomorrowland. I want them to do creative things like Zootopia and some others.

You act as though everyone hated ALL of them. What about Cinderella and Jungle Book? The latter people LOVED. And yes, even BATB got good reviews. Just ask Rotten Tomatoes. The only bad one of the bunch so far is Dumbo, and that's clearly because Tim Burton was the wrong choice to handle that movie (I would've either said Baz Lurhman or just don't remake that one).

The critics mostly don't mind these remakes. You lot however, do. I've said it before and I'll say it again: there's nothing wrong with Disney remaking these as long as the quality's good. It's a great way for younger crowds to be introduced to these stories and also make them want to see the originals, too! They're not REPLACING them! You guys seem to act like "It's my childhood so they can't touch it or it'll suck". This gatekeeping **** is getting old. It's wrecked the Star Wars fandom, and I won't stand for it here!

By the way, Harry, I've seen your previous posts. ALL you seem to do elsewhere in the past day since you've joined is bash sequels and reboots in general and ONLY praise original ideas REGARDLESS if stuff like Brightburn turns out good or not (someone who's seen that movie on the thread said it's crap; shame, I was curious about that one). Not every sequel or reboot is a bad idea, most of them are usually at least a decent idea unless otherwise noted. I get the feeling you just joined to troll franchises for no reason.

THAT SAID, let me make something very clear: I'm not blind. The original Aladdin is my all-time favorite Disney movie (Lion King being a very close second). They screw this up in ANY MAJOR WAY, then I'm going to get upset. Like ranting like a pissed-off fanboy upset. However, all I've seen so far has made me at least optimistic and I like what I'm seeing of Will Smith's Genie. I've got my tickets for opening night regardless, so expect me back on this thread after I see it.

Naomi is very pretty.

That chick singing A Whole New World needs to gargle and try again. It’s a shame we don’t have anymore Whitney’s or Mariah’s because that was a slap in the face to Regina Belle’s legendary version.

They should’ve asked Pink or X-Tina to do it.

I was gonna say, X-Tina was kind of on the comeback trail this year.

Yeah, I'll say this: the end credits song picks haven't been that well-handled choice-wise (aside from getting Celene Dion and Josh Groban for the BATB end credits covers). Seriously, who was asking for Arcade Fire of all people to cover "Baby Mine"?

Agreed. If Harry's gonna keep acting like this, dude's looking to get banned.

I'm not boycotting, I'm just not paying money for a film I already own that's sitting 6 feet away from me.

I love it. This your's or did someone else come up with it? Either way... I love it.

The pose of authenticity is a rampant scourge today in discussions of film, TV or any popular art.

Animated Jaafar was memorable since the first scene, this guy acts like he is completely phoning it in.

Wow. You have to

The crazy thing is he wants to boycott ALL the live action remakes sight unseen.

I think it's less about the remake and more about the director. The bigger the movie Guy Richie directs the more he becomes Michael Bay light.

The only reason I may watch it is Jasmine. Nothing really captured my imagination beyond that. And I didn't watch a single live action or CGI remake of the classics.

Recreational Outrage also runs rampant on Twitter and Instagram, where people comb through any public figure's social media with a fine tooth comb looking for something to call "problematic" no matter how innocuous it is.

Or just pretend to be dense enough to think Joss Whedon was calling Black Widow a monster for being infertile instead of, ya know, an assassin.

Neither Aladdin nor Jafar have done anything for me acting wise in these clips. Jasmine and the Genie look like they're going to be carrying this.
