Fantasy Guy Ritchie Directing Disney's Aladdin

Aladdin: I'll do it...I'll wish you free.

Fresh Genie: Ha-haaaaa!

"Ha-haaaaa! Yeeeaaah!" **points to one side with both arms**

"Uhhh, what are you pointing at, genie?"

"That's right! Now you're gettin' it! Ha-haaaaa!"

ykno, Will Smith as the Genie wouldn't be all that bad...

but Oded Fehr should play Jafar.

[Summertime plays in the distance]

I guess Shaquille O'Neal as the genie is out of the question. :o

I'm getting the impression that a lot of people think the story took place in India

As long as they have that caramel skin and dark hair, they're perfect. :p

In that case

You all know Aziz Ansari is gonna have a role in this film. :o

And apparently Aladdin's story begins in China.

They should get Riz Ahmed to play Aladdin

Him with Frieda pinto as princess jasmine and omid djalili as Genie would be superb

I still stand by Dwayne Johnson as the Genie, especially now after seeing Moana.

I don't get the "Only Robin Williams can play the Genie" mentality.

"The Genie" doesn't exclusively belong to Disney or (RIP) Willams and has been around for 1,000+ years. I'm pretty sure 1,001 Nights falls under public domain by now.

It's not that Williams was the only one who can play the role. Hell, Disney even replaced him on the first direct to video sequel because of a contract dispute. But his Genie is arguably the most popular version of the character. No matter who plays the Genie in the live action movie, they will be compared to Williams's portrayal.

100 years from now (if the world keeps turning that is) only film buffs will know Robin Williams and his take on the Genie. And by then there will have been another hot shot performance in the very same role.

Time. Always. Wins.

This is perfect for Ritchie, adventure heists with humor are his speciality.

Better than Ratner. :p

Haha anyone is better than Ratner

I don't think anyone will ever forget Robin but I agree that it's not a holy position and that there are no such things in art. People always say that about Robert Downey Jnr as iron man but of course the character existed long before him and will continue long after him

I still stand by Dwayne Johnson as the Genie, especially now after seeing Moana.

Oh he was so good in that wasn't he?

shaq as the genie
......I'll see myself out :(

Thank you

Don't get too ahead of yourself, Nostradamus. Almost a century later, people still regard Judy Garland as the quintessential Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz even though many have played the role since. Disney's Snow White is also the most popular version of the story on film 80 years later. I'm pretty sure more than just film buffs will remember Williams's Genie in 100 years.
