Fantasy Guy Ritchie Directing Disney's Aladdin

People seem to be suggesting a lot of actors from the Indian subcontinent for a middle eastern folk tale

Considering how sensitive people are these days I don't think they will be casting actors not of middle eastern ancestry for the lead roles. The casting call asked for people with middle eastern backgrounds.

Harry Styles for Aladdin.

Selena Gomez for Jasmine

Jared Leto as Jafar

I'd say... gender swap the Genie. Automatically offsets expectations and comparisons to Williams.

But watch it be The Rock or something.

The Genie shouldn't be copy of what Robin did with the character, or an imitation like what Homer did in the TV show (and the ONE sequel).

I guess if you want to keep some of the manic tempo for Genie...

Robert Downey Jr?

If you want someone who's good at impressions...

Bill Hader?

If you want someone who's sorta out of left field?...

Paul F. Tompkins

If you want someone who's a bit of an underdog in the comedy world but has tons of energy?

Jimmy Pardo

Okay, how about non-white guys? Hmm..can...do..oh...

Key OR Peele

Anymore?

Ummm..Eric Andre?

How about someone who is Muslim (Born)..or Asian/Middle Eastern?

Kumail Nanjiani!

I wouldn't be surprised if Disney ended up casting James Monroe Iglehart as Genie. He opened the role on Broadway, was very well received, winning the Best Featured Actor Tony, and from what I have read (having not seen it) did a fairly good job distinguishing himself from Robin Williams by adding his own spin on the character.

Although, I'd imagine Disney will want more star power for that particular role. Especially since it seems Disney is not white washing this and is seeking out Persian and Middle Eastern actors. The Genie and Iago will really be the only actors who would be A-listers. So I wouldn't be totally surprised by someone a bit more mainstream.

Ritchie is such an od choice for director for this, 'Give me the facccken lammmp you mupppettt caaaaaant'.

Aladdin - Suraj Sharma
Jasmine- Frieda Pinto
Jafar- Jason Isaacs
Genie- God Help whoever is cast

They ain't gonna whitewash this one. Disney learned their lesson with Prince of Persia.

Joseph Gordon Levitt would make a good genie. He's a real throwback to like the Astaire era, and that's what this needs.

I think if they go for a Genie who is more in the vein of Cab Calloway and Fats Waller which was the original idea for the Genie before they cast Robin Williams , I could see them going for someone like Jamie Foxx or John Legend.

Jamie Foxx definitely, not sure if John Legend's acting is strong enough.

i think bill hader would be a good choice, idk if he can sing though, he is great at impressions

Omid Djalili would make an awesome Genie. He's a real character, stole every scene in The Mummy (the one with Brendan Fraser) and he's so animated. He's the only one who could possibly rival Robin. And he was awesome as Fagin in the stage production of Oliver

Riz Ahmed can play Jafar.

Gottfried can still voice Iago.

Ahmed Ahmed as the Sultan

Couple of unknowns as Aladdin and Jasmine.

The genie is gonna be tough. RDJ could do it, but I don't know if that's the way to go.

What if the genie is a woman?

"Melissa McCarthy is...The Genie."

It's...it's gonna happen.

I think Tituss Burgess would be better.

That's really not that awful a suggestion. It's not like they suggested making it dark and gritty or anything. I don't know of Melissa can sing but if they did flip the gender she wouldn't be the worst suggestion.

They won't do it because they will want to celebrate middle eastern actors (which is great) but Melissa is really not bad at all

I could actually see Seth Macfarlane doing it if they asked. He can do decent imitations and he sings constantly.

I wouldn't mind Seth but I think they should not do impressions as I think that one element that really dates the original film.

Who has Guy Ritchie worked with who's a big known actor for his comedic sarcastic tone?

Robert Downey Jr!

Gottfried could come back as Iago but I suspect they'd probably use someone like Aziz Ansari who could kind of capture the persona.
