Fantasy Guy Ritchie Directing Disney's Aladdin

Get Neil Patrick Harris. Genie could be like a friendly Olaf and everyone knows he can sing.

Gottfried could come back as Iago but I suspect they'd probably use someone like Aziz Ansari who could kind of capture the persona.

Depends if they have Iago as a parrot or a human, I think Aziz would work in either.

I'm sticking with Jamie Foxx for the Genie because not can he sing but he's really funny.

I liked the Seth MacFarlane suggestion for genie. I hope they take time with the script and make sure that everything flows and don't just include lines from the animated movie just cause.

I don't like the director. I am not sure if he's right for a film like this. King Arthur looks so dull.

Though I am hoping this will have the same spirit and tone as the Disney classic. Aladdin is like my favorite Disney film ever. It is just so amazing and I would hate it if they screw this up.

Me too. Fingers crossed for Naomi Scott. She's beautiful and she can sing.

It makes too much logic. I expect Hollywood to cast black actress or latino actress. And preferably that one who never sing before.

I hope not.

I don't want any kind of white-washing or race-washing or whatever you call it.

I'd like them to stay true to the ethnicities of the characters as possible.

she is half-Indian isn't she??

Yeah she is. My number one choice for both Aladdin and Jasmine would be 2 unknowns with middle East origins... however, I'm not sure how likely that is. In which case... Naomi please.

Not sure who could be Aladdin. Definitely not Jake Gyllenhaal 😉

Freida Pinto for Jasmine?

It feels like it's gonna be racial nightmare for Disney. Do I want it to look 100% authentic? Yes I do. Will they be able to find fitting actors? Are they going to?

I mean they should. They don't even have the excuse of "well it won't sell without a bunch of white actors." It's freaking Aladdin, it practically sells itself already.

They put out a casting call for ethnic actors last week.

Jasmine's only mean to be like 15 in the film (and Aladdin's 18). So I wonder how young they'll cast them here?

Hmm, 18-21 would probably be their best bet, especially for Jasmine.

thanks.

and I agree. they need actors who have some degree of Middle Eastern ethnicity. especially for the 2 lead roles.

if that means getting someone who's of mixed ethnicity, provided they can act and sing, and they have that "look," then so be it.

but yeah, no Jake Gyllenhaal for Aladdin.

I believe the casting calls are calling for Middle-Eastern background actors for the leads?

Indians aren't middle-eastern but south asian.

Have the ever specified exactly where Agrabah is supposed to located?

As per Disney canon it's some unspecified region of the middle-east. Arabian Nights and all that.

Back to casting I think actual middle-easterners might be as offended casting an Indian as an Arab as they would a white person.

Interesting that Aladdin the character is initially found living in a city in Western China, so really, he can be from any ethnicity.

I was having a conversation the other day with my friend about who they should cast as the Genie and he had the idea of him being a CGI mo capped character and they just re-use Robin Williams dialogue from Aladdin and I think that would be the best thing to do it will create an interesting buzz for the movie.
