The lack of Iago is disappointing, but the color of Genie doesn't make much of a difference.

I assume they wanted to go outside the box with this one, which is why they got Guy Ritchie to direct. If they wanted to an adaptation that played it safe, they would have gone with a vanilla director like Bill Condon again. I'm sure they took into account a lot of the criticism that Beauty and the Beast got for being too similar to the animated version, even though it still made a billion dollars anyway.

Personally, I can live without Iago (though I'm not that happy about it if he's out) and the Genie's color doesn't really matter to me, just as long as they keep the songs intact.

It wouldn't be surprising to me, Mask like abilities is actually what we got from the Disney version of the character in the first place.
