I should be seeing it on Saturday as well. I don't have high expectations... I'm just watching it for Naomi Scott and probably Will Smith.

After the drop from 85% to 60% I thought RT would drop even more to low-mid 50s, but the number of reviews has doubled now and it still never dips below 58% or rises above 60%. It will probably end up in this range after all reviews are in.

I don't think RT will be out of the 55-75% range, so no big surprise.

I called this before embargo dropped btw, RT is on the low end but I was technically right.

I think Grace got traction in spring 2016, when she was the most vocal defender of BvS, which she considered a masterpiece. She then got a large following from DC fans, and in the same year she also suggested that CA: CW got such high RT because Disney bribed critics. After getting a large following from a certain kind of people, she started to blog according to the taste of her fan base. I remembered her initially giving TLJ a quite favourable review, but then it turned out that the movie was extremely controversial among her following and she gradually changed her tune. Same with Black Panther. Now she's either someone to mock or someone to listen to, that's why her videos are usually posted to get attention.

I refuse to watch her videos and personally I don't think she knows what she's talking about when it comes to film and cinema...like most modern day "critics"/bloggers.

Apart from the "Disney bribed critics"/ TLJ/ Black Panther wreck I mentioned above, in late 2018 she also said that her "source" told her Bob Iger had a meeting with Disney executives and planned to fire Kathleen Kennedy, and when Kennedy's contract was extended for like 30 months (Kevin Feige and even Iger himself have never had their contracts extended for that long) she tweeted "[Her] source was right, being head of LF is a thankless job and Kennedy was the only person willing to do it". I won't comment on whether she knows what she's talking about but she knows very well what her fans want to hear.

Grace Randolph also trashed Wonder Woman and Gal Gadot before it was released.

It actually went up to 61, LOL

I'm on route to see the first showing @ 6:00, hopefully it's good. I just want it to be an enjoyable experience. I don't expect it too be the masterpiece of the Animated classic. Robin Williams is untouchable as the big loveable Genie. IMG_20190523_154602.jpg

I hope to catch it tomorrow or sometime over the weekend. Was planning to see it tonight but there were only two showings available, both pretty late, and they were almost sold out.

I enjoyed the film, it was surprisingly better than I expected especially Will Smith as Genie, he definitely did Fresh Prince of Agrabar. Rather than copying Robin Williams which I appreciated. Jasmine had more of a role in this. Her handmaid Dalai was a scene stealing showcase character. The main actor Mena definitely had great on screen chemistry with Naomi and Will Smith.

The traditional classic songs Arabian Night, One Jump, friend Like me, Prince Ali, & A whole New World are all well done.

Jasmine solo song "Specheless" is good just it's kind of misplaced in the scene its used.

The effects weren't spot on, I was actually kinda bored with two scenes that seemed kinda unfinished.

Jafar was a huge let down, the actor just didn't work, Iago was wasted.

Abu, raja and carpet had better showcase in the Animated feature.

I felt Aladdin's diamond in the rough characterization wasn't explored enough.

Other than that I enjoyed the film. But it doesn't hold a candle to the Original Disney Animated Feature aladdin_ver3_xlg.jpg

Just got back. Didn't hate it. I liked it more than BatB. Liked Mena and Will better than expected. Jasmine's added song sticks out like sore thumb, though. Just so unnecessary, and...not good. Otherwise, she was fine.

Also, it seems we finally found a studio big enough to stamp out Guy Ritchie's personality. Up 'til now, even in his blockbusters, his distinctive style was ever-present, but not here. There were tiny, tiny moments that made me go, "oh yeah, Guy Ritchie directed this," but most of the time it was virtually unrecognizable as one of his films, imo.

And yeah, this Jafar royally sucked. The biggest crime the movie committed, however, was casting this awesome dude in the film:

And giving him such a worthless role as the Sultan. That makes the Jafar casting even worse because you had an awesome Jafar RIGHT THERE and you wasted him like that! :argh:

Jafar is supposed to come off as slightly nuts in general. It's subtle but you see it under the surface through the animated movie until he gets the lamp and just goes off his ****ing rocker.

I liked it better than B&TB as well (I hated that mess). The film does better when the actors aren’t having to say the same dialogue as the animated film and are allowed to do their own thing.

Will is good whenever he’s not having to try to be Robin Williams. When he’s doing Will Smith he’s very fun.

Mena has charm as Aladdin and smiles/enjoys himself more than the trailers would let on.

The cave of wonders melt down sequence is so much more thrilling in the animated movie and is really a let down here. As is the cave itself.

So what do we think money wise? Obviously the kids have been talking about it and old folks will go for nostalgia. Not to mention it's probably one of the only blockbusters out now featuring a mostly Arabic cast that's not like some indie flick.

700-800m? Maybe 600m if it doesn't take off. I don't think it will be getting to a billion, but I could be wrong. Might depend on how well Godzilla goes over.

That's more the mouse power rather than Aladdin power. Sadly movies like Captain marvel make billions while some perfectly good movies make tenth of it.

Captain Marvel is an MCU film which all do well by default.

I actually enjoyed this quite a bit. Wasn't a big fan of Jafar either and Will's Genie didn't totally work for me. Mena and Naomi were great though and I felt this really started off strong up until about Genie showed up.

I got right back into it right before the magic carpet ride and had goosebumps the whole scene.

Obviously no where near as good as the original, but much better than Beauty and the Beast.
