The Force Awakens Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma

I'm sure she'll have a bigger role and explored more episode 8 so, I'm fine with it. Seems like there's plenty of other stuff and characters to enjoy.

By making a big deal out of her character and her sex and having Gwen Christie in most interviews and press conferences as if Phasma was something bigger than she was.

I was quite let down by her showing in the movie. They built her up and it came to nothing, any stormtrooper could have done her stuff. I got the feeling watching Phasma was just a design the really liked and once the armour was no longer Kylo's they wanted to keep the design and shoehorned it in somehow. Maybe in the next film she'll have a better role, this wasn't a great start though.

That is exactly what happened, but you need to detach yourself from real life interviews and hype and see her in the context of TFA alone. In that sense, she's just fine.

PHASMA fans, yes, and rightfully so. As long as their opinion on the movie isn't lowered in their eyes, cos it's not the movie's fault.

Is she like Boba Fett in the OT? Large hype for a superfluous character who does very little.

To be fair, Fett wasn't hyped up. His popularity came organically from the fans. For this movie, it seems people were actively looking for the next Fett, which will only inevitably lead to disappointment.

My question, if you didn't know a woman played her, would you have known the character was female? Just curious if the movie addressed her gender since you can't really tell by the armor.

Not at all. You couldn't tell the gender. They coulda cast a man and had Phasma dubbed by a woman and there wouldn't be any difference.

I think she was the most disappointing character and also I didn't really feel her voice, if I'm honest.

So why the hubbub about the character being female? It's like they realized they only had 1 female character in this and so rushed at the last minute to squeeze another one in.

The hubbub is that it's a woman in an armor that doesn't highlight gender, which I agree with. The fact that they kept hyping the character up is what created the disappointment over Phasma's role in the movie.

I'm loving the all the pictures of her towering over everyone a the premiere's. She's such a tall woman anyway but stick her in heels and Mr Mayhew seems like the only one able to look her in the eye.

I echo the sentiments of most here, stupid to feature her so heavily in the marketing when she had even less to do than Boba Fett.

I wonder if she survived the destruction on the base. :hmm If she did I think she'll be hunting Finn in EpVIII

Kathleen Kennedy has already said she'll be back for VIII.

Good! I've been in media blackout mode on TFA since Monday so I hadn't heard lol.

I wonder if Phasma could have taken Han.......

That's a good question. Do we even know what her arsenal was, besides a blaster rifle? Boba Fett has so many weapons and gadgets that its difficult to remember them all.

I was very disappointed with her use in this film. Hopefully whatever they do with her in the next film is awesome.

My sentiments exactly. Her character was the only let down for me. But I'm hoping she is more heavily used in the next movie.
