So I am going to give this its own thread, if you want to see my other work go here: http://superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?t=241469
or my site: web.mac.com/halcyonseven

So I was asked if I could draw any of the X-Men and I said I had not drawn any, but I was open to it. So someone suggested Nightcrawler might fit my style best so I did quick sketch tonight based on a few comics I have that have him in them. It's pretty rough but its just sketch folks...

I went back and inked the drawing, adding detail and then scanned it in and added my blacks and here is where I stop for the night so I can go to bed:

I have never drawn any marvel characters outside of Spidey and Venom but this was really alot of fun. It's a little cartooney but I guess there is nothing wrong with that. I believe this is his classic costume? Is that correct? I saw lots of different versions but thought this was the most famous.

Any thoughts?

I like this a lot. Looks like Mike Mignola drew it, and I love Mike Mignola art. Plus my favorite X-Man is nightcrawler so this gets a double bonus. Awsome job, my friend (for some weird reason the smilies aren't working. I was going to give you a thumbs up but as I said they're not working for me...)

Thanks again, great compliments. I am itching to color it now and since I left work early that is exactly what I plan on doing! Not that I don't have important stuff to do other than this but... why do what you can put off till tomorrow?
Anyone else have any c+c?

I agree with Yodaman, it does look like Mignola's work. Great job!

Thanks ComicChik, also wanted to say I like your thread. You have some really cool stuff and enviable line work. Really like the Batman stuff you did.

thanks a lot halcyonseven, i didnt think anyone ever visited my thread anymore. glad you liked the batman

Yeah, I try to look up peoples threads when they compliment me. It's the least I can do if they take the time to look at my artwork:)
I am going to post the finished Nightcrawler soon. I just have to get it set up for the web and finish the colors up.

Okay... I just got this up on my website as "My first X-Men drawing". I had a TON of fun doing this, and it managed to distract me from everything I ought to be doing.
But anyway here it is:

Any thoughts? I haven't done any X-Men so if I totally screwed this up let me know. Of course loving praise is also accepted.

GREAT colors. You really know what you're doing. You know what would be an awsome picture you could do? Have Nightcrawler in one of his pirate fantasies where he's in his pirate outfit and he's fighting a bunch of other pirates. From you that'd be a REALLY cool picture

You obviously havn't read much X-Men. Yes, I was serious. Just ignore that comment.

I like it and it definitely has that Mignola flavor, which is a good thing, IMO.

The only thing I would say is that in the final I'm wondering if the black background is a bit heavy. With the dark blue used for Nightcrawler he becomes a bit difficult to see. (Though that may have been what you were going for) Maybe try to lighten the blue of his uniform or use a lighter cool grey instead of the solid black to make him stand out a little more.

Thanks Mrh. Loving the Mignola comparisons, although I hope I have enough of my own style in there to not just be a carbon clone. Although in the end, I guess its better to be a clone of Mignola rather than a clone of say, Rob Liefield?
I understand your thoughts on the black background. Maybe I will de-saturate his costume a little and see what it looks like.
Although I really do want him to get a little lost in all that black and have the reds and highlights stand out in contrast. Less bright comic book-ey feel, more dark night sneaking around feel.
anyone else have any thoughts? I will post a lighter version later and maybe people can say which looks better.

Thanks Mee. I like your thread as well man. Plus, you get points for drawing the John Stewart GL.
Thanks. Heh, it actually took me a while to decide which GL to do.

Maybe even if you just lighten the smoke might work, just use a lighter grey, his body will stand out in contrast with that but disappear a little more when you meet the black of the background.

Although I see the Mignola influence, you definitely have a style of your own, but yes much better Mignola then the pinheaded heroes of Liefeld

MY GOD!

I would never have guessed you hadn't drawn nightcrawler a millions times before!!!

Wow, thanks mrsparkle! Thats an awesome compliment. To be honest I was a little dubious about how it was going to come out seeing as I had never drawn him before and lately I have been doing only digital work. But when I picked up that pencil it just flowed out.
I love it when that happens. It just feels like you couldn't stop it if you tried.
I am sure others here know what I mean.
In fact I may not have much new to post for a little while as I felt like my tank got full and am furiously sketching out some comic book stuff as we speak.

I dont even like his origional costume (the one you have used)
but you make it look wicked!
