Halo Fan Thread

The portal gun and magic aren't "gimmicks" then either. They both add to the gameplay and change it completely, far moreso than a cover system. Saying that it's a staple of FPS games is a little far fetched as well, since the largest FPS games in the industry are shipping without it. It just doesn't fit the gameplay of Halo. You might as well ask them to include damage power ups and conversation choices.

What I meant when I say gimmicks is that they work for the games they are in. A cover system would work well in a lot of FPS titles and 3rd person titles as well, Mass Effect has it too. Its becoming a staple. There will be a lot more games using it because it brings more to the combat. It has nothing to do with conversation choices or power ups, its not an "arcade-like" feature. Those comparisons are horribly inaccurate.

I'm not saying it's an arcade-like feature, I'm just saying that, like the two examples I gave, I just don't think it would fit into Halo. It works in a game like Rainbow Six, yeah, but thats an entirely different kind of game from Halo. I realize that they're both FPS games, but if you get past the genre and actually look at what kind of game you're looking at, those two have very different gameplay types. One is slower paced and methodical, you die after a few hits, it encourages planning, etc. The other is fast paced and emphasizes action above all else, very little planning is involved. And there's still the fact that if you really want to take cover, it's as simple as moving behind something. Personally, that works just fine for me, and I'd actually prefer that to needing to rely on the game to stick me to the correct wall each time.

Halo is much, much better off without the cover system. It makes sense for marines to do it (and they did, in Halo 2) but MasterChief has no use for it.

What are you talking about Master Chief is the Spartins Leader?

Agreed. The only thing I hope from Halo 3 is that it sells a lot, just to keep the 360 charging forward, and thats the one thing that is pretty much guaranteed at this point.

Actually...if they had included the Halo 1 handgun, right now I'd be planning to buy the game.
But they even failed at that :down

Halo Wars for me

Halo is my favorite shooter yet and I hope it stays that way.

But they DO have the Halo 1 handgun in Halo 3.

Face it, the Halo 1 pistol was cheap. It was basically the sniper rifle but with a larger clip and easier to use.

Yeah, the assault rifle. I never got why it was called that anyways, because assault rifles can switch from semi and fully auto.

I don't mind the plasma weapons so much. But they tend to be under-used compared to the "human" weapons because they're less practical and just suck in comparison.

SMG + Brute Shot is pretty useful.
