Harley Quinn costume idea!

I love seeing all the original designs! Yesterday I decided to pay tribute to Miss Harley Quinn....

Taken three hours after it was finished so it's a bit angry looking hah.

Oh this is just lovely, where's that located? Pic's a tad too close to tell :oldrazz: (I'ma guess upper hip :hoboj:)

I would definitely love to see your outfit--from your first post I didn't realize you had already made one! I personally have no sewing talent; I'm currently buying various bits and pieces to create the look I want!
I really, really want a straitjacket, but again, lack of ability to sew and the real ones are soooo expensive >.<

...and for the record, I hate the gotham Girls outfit! xD

hahaha lol.
Oh I'm sorry, maybe it did sound that way, yeah.. I guess I dont count this outfit as a real Harley outfit. I wanna finish my actual Harley bodysuit, and make other complete red/black Harley outfits :)

Oh that's awesome too, mixing & matching! Nothing wrong with that ^^
Sorry to hear you you are unable to sew. Because straitjackets really arent that hard.. Yes, real ones are very expensive indeed :(
I bought the perfect fabric for a straitjacket. But the fabric was so thick, the needle was like "screw that!" xD and I couldnt work with it on my machine, haha. So I had to buy a thinner fabric.

Okay so I chose some pictures. I wanna point out again that I'm not all too pleased with the 2 last pics :P Because, like I said, I was unable to wear my makeup that day, and I dont have a leather / latex mask yet :)
But here they are :D

I very much enjoy your hat, and I love how you wrote on your leg! It looks like a fun costume overall :)
And yeah, I realize a straitjacket is fairly simple, I found multiple demos online. Perhaps I will make it my summer project. In the meantime, my corset came in, and now I'm just waiting on receiving the funds to get the pants I want!
I don't wear a mask, I just paint it on. I was thinking of getting a latex mask but I enjoy drawing it myself.

Thank you very much! :hq: I guess it was more of a "for the time being - sollution - costume" hehehehe. I hope the next ones will be much better!
Under my hat I hid my hair in 2 big ponytails, which made it stand off my head a little. But I doubt I'll be able to do that in April, cos my hair isnt even shoulder length yet  lol ^^
Yea, I asked a friend to write on me xD Ha-ha's on 1 leg, and Joker on the other ^^ It was funny. Especially days afterwards, cos it was done with permanent marker, hahahaha. Took a while before it faded ;)
And the "special -silly- touch" was that my underwear (incl. garters) was purple. Joker - purple. lol.

Definitely let me (us) know how it works out if you were to start on your straitjacket ^^
Ohh awesome!!! corsets are always lovely, cant go wrong there. You will post pictures of your outfit when it's done, right? I really would love to see it! :D
Cool that you will paint it on. What kind of paint do you use if I may ask? I got one that you have to make wet with water. I fear it'll start running when I'd end up in the rain or sweat a little too much.
I'm trying to find a particular kind of leather that you can shape. I think it'll be 1 of the easiest ways to make a mask. People told me how I could do it with latex, but that's completely insane, -so much work. hahaha :)

Loving the extra special touch lol!

I'll definitely post pics when I'm done, probably in February. In the meantime I was thinking of taking some in progress pics and maybe posting those...I also have pics of myself at Fan Expo in my "this'll do for the weekend" cosplay with Mr J somewhere around page 32-34. I'm wearing a WWJD (what would Joker do) shirt xD

I'm on a very tight budget and therefore usually just buy whatever face paint is at the costume store near me lol, but I am moving up to Mehron products for my next cosplay. The one I currently use comes in a tube, and I probably should be painting it on, but I generally go for the more primitive approach of using my fingers to paint it on. I outline with black eyeliner and then fill it in. Then I go over it with black lipstick from Shoppers Drug Mart to clean it up and fill in where my fingers couldn't. I also find that the mask keeps all day under sweat and fluorescent lighting if you reinforce it with lipstick. It's not conventional, and it's definitely not professional, but it works really well! And I know that other people have used lipstick for the same purpose, just different costumes, and their masks have stayed in rainy weather as well.

haha Thank you! :P :D
That would be cool too! :D (the progress pics) :D
I checked out the pics you mentioned. I really like them!!! :D Your outfit looks fun! Kinda like mine : it's not perfect, but it works! ^__^ :hq:

Oh I see. Yeah, lipstick is more waxy. That usually stays on better, but does have a bit of a shine to it usually. But that definitely sounds like a workable plan. And yes, budget is definitely an issue. For me too.
I found a lowbudget mask in a store and I was able to cut it up and alter it. And I think it looks okay. A lot less hassle than liquid latex or trying to find leather. lol

Alright. So I was bored the other night and decided to play with my new corset and a few I items I already owned. I'll be switching up the skirt for two-tone pants in the next couple months, and I'm also working on a hat and possibly some ruffles. but for now this outfit is passable and alot of fun! Also, ignore the bad makeup job. When my mother asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I told her I wanted face paint and the Joker hoodie here: http://www.superherostuff.com//joke...tume-zip-up-hoodie.html?itemCd=hoodjokecostum

I'm terribly sorry for the late reply. I had my 4 wisdom teeth removed and I've been sick for a week! D: I'm finally coming to life again (:
So now to your post :

I really love your outfit!!!! Your corset is amazing!!! :D *lil jealous* ;-) And the stockings! They are 2 seperate ones I assume?
oh and I love cam-****ing :hq: LOL

Thank you!! The corset was a grand total of $20.40 (gotta love wholesale on Ebay!) and the stockings are actually a pair of black tights, and then i cut the left leg off of a pair of red tights and put that on over top of the black ones :P Like I said, low budget! I have my eye on a couple other pairs of tights though--one two-tone black and red and one with black and red diamonds. I figured this cosplay would do me for the next little con that rolls around, and then I'll have the pants and hat I want in time for Wizard Con in March and Fan Expo in August.

P.S. Ouch! I'm glad you're feeling better!

WOOW! Loving the price of the corset!
I've kinda forbidden myself to go near ebay.. Cos I wanna buy about any wig I lay my eyes on ;-D lol

So I'm getting ready for C2E2 in March, my classic Harley has been evolving for the past year or so and I think I'm finally getting close to what I want to achieve. Now if I can just get a good cowl hah!

very nice  I know Harls (hype username) knows some good sites to get a Harley Quinn cowl.

Wow Rebecca, you do your make-up right, and I think you'd win a prize!

Very awesome! =O Did you make it all yourself? :)

Wow, it really look great from the costumes and make-up, they did a good job.

Hello. I have been reading everyone's post and seeing their beautiful Harley Quinn costume ideas. I am so inspired to do one myself. I have always loved Harley Quinn, and I want to pretty much be her.

I'm a guy. I am 20 years old. I am gay, and I want to make a Harley Quinn costume for myself. ^^

I have some ideas, but I have no reference pictures so hopefully I can explain myself pretty well. >.<

For the hair - I have brown hair, and it's rather curly. It sucks pretty much when you want to crossplay as Harley Quinn. I did find a picture online where this girl was a brunette with shoulder length hair, and she put it in very tiny pig tails. It was so cute, I really want that for my hair. I do want blonde hair - not just for Harley but for everyday use...but It's difficult to do that with my hair. :/

Top - I was thinking of a white dress shirt for girls. Button up. With short puffy sleeves. A red ribbon bow in the front.

Let me explain my vision of Harley Quinn. I see innocence when I see her. A girl who knows what she is doing and knows how to get it. Her mind is whacky, crazy, comical and I think that is one reason why she dresses herself in the Harlequin jumpsuit. She thinks it's funny, and childish. I don't see Harley wearing a lot of the punky things that a lot of cosplayers go for instantly. She is a little daft in the brain, but...that doesn't mean she has to dress like a slob. She is professional, and I want to show that.

I know what most of you are thinking - no red and black. Well...this is where that comes in, and I think it is shown in a respectful yet youthful way.

Bottom - Black skinny jeans, with a red sock/stocking on one leg. Symbolic Harley diamonds are cut out on the red sock/stocking, so the black from the jeans comes through - representing the traditional black diamond on red leg.

I really hope this makes sense.

I do actually enjoy converse, and I think she might wear them. They are comfortable, and easy to find. She does seem to like shopping in the comic/The Animated Series, so maybe a lot more classier of a shoe. I would feel more comfortable wearing "connies" personally.

Thank you for letting me post in here, and I hope my opinions are seen as a possibility? :)

Hi there! I think your idea for Harley sounds really cool and unique - honestly I think punk-style Harley outfits have become somewhat overdone. I understand that people feel a punk Harley would go well with Heath's Joker because his style was based on Johnny Rotten from the Sex Pistols.

I like that you said she is professional - I think alot of people lose sight of the fat that she used to be a psychologist and therefore is much more intelligent than she lets on. Her love for the Joker may make her somewhat naive, but she's certainly not stupid.

Good luck on your costume :) I have a collection of fanart that includes more professional and clean than grungy Harley, so if your interested in getting some reference pictures for inspiration feel free to pm me!

Wow, thank you, FabulousKillJoy!! I actually expected to not get any form of positive critique. Wow. :)) Thank you. By the by, I am madly in love with your name - I am a huge MCR fan. <33 hehe. I am going to PM you now. ^^

You're welcome ^__^ I think it was really courageous of you to state outright that you are a gay male looking to do Harley, and I like to think of this forum is a very positive space. And considering the amount of female crossplayers that do Mr J, not to mention the fact that all the hot male anime cosplays are girls :P, I think it's really awesome that there are guys out there who are enthusiastic about cosplaying as well, whether it be as a male or female character. (not sure if I phrased that well enough, but you get what I'm trying to say right?)
I would love to see your cosplay when you're done!

P.S off topic but OMG you're an MCR fan? They are my favourite band ever!!! I just saw them live in December for the fourth time and they were absolutely amazing! I now display Frank's water bottle proudly in my room XD

I really really want to see them live! I would probably cry instantly when Gerard opens his mouth. :// I'm too emotional. hehe

Anyhoo! I have confidence issues, and I don't think I am super attractive so crossplay will take a lot more strength to do it. I just feel like I can pull of an innocent character like Harley Quinn. I don't know. Thank you for the confidence booster! ^^

You're very welcome! You don't have to be super hot or anything to cosplay; I just meant that whenever I do see an attractive male cosplayer it always turns out to be a girl XD Cosplay is for everyone and doesn't discriminate, which is one of the reasons it appeals to me so much! Also I think you are more attractive than you think you are - most people are extremely self critical of themselves (I should know, I'm one of them!).

And btw, I totally cried in December when I saw them, Gerard launched in Na Na Na and I just launched into total shock mode that I was actually there and seeing them! Plus he puts so much emotion into Helena and Cancer that I'm pretty sure the entire audience was reduced to tears :hrt:

Y_Y I really need to see them! Yeah. Let's talk more about them in PM (I don't want to get in trouble...even though no one else is replying.) :/ hehe.

I really appreciate the confidence boost. Really. Means a lot. :))

Yeah, I could probably find some of my bookmarks if anyone wants me to (just PM me).

I completely agree! A lot of the punky things are really really cute outfits, but I just personally don't see her wearing them seriously.

(my firefox crashed & I lost my post, thankfully I took a screencap of it)

So, yeah. I feel too ugly and blah to even dress up like her for fun. I'd be very interested to see what you lovey ladies (and men!) have to say about it.
