Harley Quinn costume idea!

(my firefox crashed & I lost my post, thankfully I took a screencap of it)

So, yeah. I feel too ugly and blah to even dress up like her for fun. I'd be very interested to see what you lovey ladies (and men!) have to say about it.

Honestly, I have a lot of issues with my own body and understand exactly where you're coming from. The thing is, when I put on my Harley makeup, it feels to me like I'm putting on my real face, in a way. I know that probably sounds kind of strange, but Harley helps me to feel more comfortable with myself and show my true colours.

Anyway, cutting to the chase here: The way I get over my body image issues is that I don't think of myself as cosplaying Harley, but as tasking on a new role or image. For me cosplaying Harley isn't just about being the character, it's about how I feel and act when I am in that persona.

I don't know if that helps, but that's how I cope. Cosplay doesn't just means putting on a costume, it means the freedom to choose who you want to be. So when you put on that costume, you don't have to be someone who is low on confidence or just plain feels fat that day - you can be whoever you want to be and express yourself in a way that you feel comfortable.

I hope that helped ^___^

FabulousKillJoy literally stole the words out of my mouth/keyboard! Sadly, people don't always feel the best about their appearance, and it really sucks. I am the same way...and I lack the full inspiration to crossplay, like I want to....but I know I can make it work by bringing that character to life. I feel like I know the character so well, even some girls will be jealous. Be strong, and cosplay for fun...because it's what you want to do. It's something you can be good at and continue to be good at it. Harley most definitely would make whoever laughs at her a living joke...so, take that attitude and put a smile on your face. ^^ You have a lot of love on this forum. <3

Hihi :)

I've been checking out the boards a little bit seraching for such like minded folks and I was wondering if I could run my Harley Quinn costume idea past you?

Very simply i"m going complteley untraditional- only sticking with the basic ideas of the costume- the red and black colour scheme, the harlequin/jester theme and her signature diamond pattern...

I have frankensteined a black and red top into a boob tube like design (half and half in colour) which is torn and jagged at the bottom (the bottom being around mid-waist) with black and red netting sewn on as well- then bells sewn onto the bottoms of the jagged ends and netting.

The skirt I worked with originally was black with tassle like pieces hanging off so I've sewn like red panels on half of the skirt between the tassles and on the other side I've put red over/around the tassles trying to create a similar half and half effect- also with bells on the bottom of the tassles.

I have knee high black boots that I'm planning to have red netting hanging over the tops in a similar jagged pattern and a black choker with the red netting. Might put bells on those as well :P

As for the hat I've made my own tiny jester hat that I will clip into my hair on the night then pull my hair back in low pig tails with red and black ribbons etc...

I'm not sure what sort of make up to do though so I would like some opinions or ideas as to what might go with what I've done :)

Probably end up doing more little accesory bits etc but thats the general idea i've gone with- if I get time (and the weather keeps cooling down) then I may to a crop jacket to go with the costume.

Sorry bout my post being so long :P

Hey, welcome to the forum! No worries about the length of post, you should see some of mine XD
Your cosplay idea sounds pretty cool; very original yet still keeping with the general feel and personality of Harley :)
If you are looking for some makeup ideas, I uploaded a bunch of my makeup refence pictures here: http://s63.photobucket.com/albums/h122/blackeyedpirate/Harley%20Quinn%20reference%20pics/ I collected them from cosplayers and artists on deviantart and facebook. Hopefully that helps! I would love to see a picture of your finished cosplay ^__^

Double posting, but really there aren't many people still using this forum so I don't feel bad XD Here are my latest photos from my Arkham City cosplay:

cool. Where'd you buy a half-black, half-red pair of jeans though???

I didn't buy them, I bought a pair of red jeans and dyed them. I am buying a pair of half red half black pants from Fan Plus Friend for my next Harley cosplay though, cause I turned these ones into shorts :P

I reeeeaaaalllyyy like Harley's costume in the Arkham Asylum video game. :)

It's not an original Harley Quinn costume idea, but I thought I'd share my Arkham City costume I did for a con earlier this month. I did it all myself and it's hand swen. It took me 5 months (agh!). It could still use some tweeks for next time, but I was happy and proud of the final product, and it was a TON OF FUN to wear! BTW, this forum is full of awesome costumes. Love them all! :hq:

^For the love of god, please be the mother of my knife swinging Joker makeup wearing children. LOL :wow: :woot: :hrt:

Terrific costume however, a job very well done; Im still in the works on making a Nolan looking Harley, and the further I come along I have to alter to live up to the Arkham City and Azzarello Harley standard as well. Or at least I feel obligated to. LOL How did you make it, and materials went into making this?

@angelfiction :

we all know bats is to much of a wimp to hit a girl XD so the new boxing champion of Gotham is you :yay:

Thanks! Sorry, but I already have me a Mr. J lol :woot: Anyway, it's 100% pleather. Well, except the shirt. I want to fix up the corset a bit & add boning so it lays better. I def looove the Azarello Harley! She's very Nolan-verse I think. One of my faves & I like that she still sported the original costume too. (even if it was for a reverse strip tease...)
And soo crazy there's someone here from Philly Comic Con! :hq:

Hello all.

Ok. So Halloween is right around the corner and I have always wanted to do Harley or Ivy for Halloween, but it is a little hard for me to find anything that could remotely work for me costume wise since I am a little bigger. That in mind though I did end up finding this one costume that I think I could make into a pretty rad Harley costume with a few tweaks and accessories but I need the opinion of other Gotham die hards.

http://www.torrid.com/torrid/Collections/LookBook/Fantasize/CanCan-Dancer-Costume-528885.jsp

Unfortunately the Torrid web site would not allow me to save the picture so there is the link for the costume. But with the costume I would add the red/black gloves, the white collar, red/black boots, possibly the hat too or just hair in pig tales with the red and black dye on the ends and a few other odds and ends. ( I love the traditional Harley but I also like a little bit of creative freedom)

If anyone has any other ideas or thoughts please let me know. I am, sad to say the only Batman fanatic I know so its nice to have the opinion of like minded people.

I like it. If you use 1 red stocking and 1 black stocking, with the right face paint, and an over-sized gun with a pop cork or a big mallet, you'd have a pretty good Harley costume in my opinion.
