So, yeah. I feel too ugly and blah to even dress up like her for fun. I'd be very interested to see what you lovey ladies (and men!) have to say about it.
Honestly, I have a lot of issues with my own body and understand exactly where you're coming from. The thing is, when I put on my Harley makeup, it feels to me like I'm putting on my real face, in a way. I know that probably sounds kind of strange, but Harley helps me to feel more comfortable with myself and show my true colours.
Anyway, cutting to the chase here: The way I get over my body image issues is that I don't think of myself as cosplaying Harley, but as tasking on a new role or image. For me cosplaying Harley isn't just about being the character, it's about how I feel and act when I am in that persona.
I don't know if that helps, but that's how I cope. Cosplay doesn't just means putting on a costume, it means the freedom to choose who you want to be. So when you put on that costume, you don't have to be someone who is low on confidence or just plain feels fat that day - you can be whoever you want to be and express yourself in a way that you feel comfortable.
I hope that helped ^___^
