I wanted to put this poll up to get a read of how people's experience with the previous films may have colored their expectations now. I know, personally, I was excited every step of the way through the previous two films. When we heard news that was concerning, I generally tried to discount the bad news and focus on the good news - and the result is that I was badly disappointed with both films.

Now I find myself jaded by that experience and I feel like I'm seeing history repeat itself. And because of my previous experienc, I'm unable to be as optimistic as I was before.

I'm curious to see if there is any correlation between expectations and enthusiasm for this film and experience with the last two films.

They were Seven years ago. Time and people change.

That coupled with the fact that the recent Fox movies have been great have me at the very least not pessimistic for this.

(Got confused by the options and voted wrong :funny:)

I followed the first two very close - have collected all of and read and reread and reread the comics since issue 80 or so....VERY concerned about what we've heard so far....

Yeah, it's probably a little confusing and some people might not fit any options, but I'm curious because I feel that if I had not been through the previous experience, I would be much more excited as I am.

So I'm curious to see if more of the excited people hadn't gone through that experience and more of the pessimistic people had . . . or if there's no real correlation.

Oof
Liking that bastardization of the Silver Surfer?
You mustn't have been the biggest Norrin fan growing up, and it stung deeper than just cloudactus.

Where's the most important choice, "I followed the first two movies, hated them both, and have zero faith in a new one"?

That falls into the second one. I didn't want to try to cover every possible combination of feelings but just get generally how people were leaning.:cwink:

Galactus was bastardized, but Silver Surfer was well done.

Followed first two closely & am concerned. Specifically metaphysician's version.

Over the course of two films they managed to get maybe 20-30 minutes of good FF onscreen. That's a fail, and although it is often true that time can change things, that doesn't seem to be applicable here. Nothing I've seen regarding this picture gives any indication of the desire to do anything but churn out another bland, disposable quickie that no one will remember (except for poor FF fans, who will instead be unable to forget)

Maybe it's too early, but I just desperately want to see something that will illustrate: "This one is different. We're taking it more seriously than the other two and when you see the final product, it will knock your socks off." But instead, I'm seeing things that seem very similar to what we saw before.

But Josh Trank has been very quiet. Maybe once they get going and he starts providing some insight into his intentions that will give us something to hope for. But again, the problem with that is I'll remember the times Tim Story told us things that sounded good.

And that's really the point of this thread. I'm going to be much harder to convince this time around. Once bitten, twice shy.

I voted the 2nd option. Concerned. Oh yes indeed :csad:

The only "novelty" to this latest installment is the cast. Everything else reads in a familiar tone as what came before. My only hope is the Thing gets a respectable CGI appearance. We'll see, but it looks very tame.

I enjoyed both films but what they did with Galactus should be charged as a crime

"Has Past FF Film Experience Affected Your Expectations?"

No, and there's no logical reason why it would.

I saw both of the original films and enjoyed them, but the fact that I enjoyed them is irrelevant when it comes to the question of whether or not I'll enjoy this reboot, which is a question only time and information can answer.

I didn't follow the first two films very closely, but I was regularly here in SHH in 2005 when Fantastic Four is about to be released and I was really aware when the movies were coming out. I liked the first film, it wasn't very good but I thought it was fun. I was disappointed with the 2nd one because it was tooooooooo short.

I was excited about this reboot until they revealed the new cast members!

Last time around at this time we had:

1. A young director who had received acclaim for his first film but had no track record and no clout to push back if the studio stuck their nose into what he was doing.

2. A questionable cast announced at the last minute that seemed chosen more for their availability, low wage requirements and appeal to a young audience than any real experience playing roles in similar films.

3. A short production schedule that didn't seem long enough for a film that would require a lot of post-production.

4. A relatively low budget for what they needed to achieve.

5. Numerous script drafts that had been scrapped and reworked right up to the deadline.

6. Film-makers that didn't seem particularly focused on the source material.

And with all that I remained optimistic. If I had looked at it objectively, I would have seen real reason for concern, but I lied to myself and believed things would turn out better than they were looking.

Now that we have a set of circumstances that seem shockingly similar to what we had last time around, I feel I would be a fool to not take some lessons from the past.

Fox's failures in the past have given them a higher bar to convince me they'll do it right this time, and until I see some clear divergence from the mistakes of the past, I'll remain skeptical.

If you or Fox don't like that, blame Fox, not me.

Willie, I have zero expectations and the casting and plotting leaks from this film have confirmed what a good plan it was for me to have zero expectations.
