Considering the drop In X-men films normillary if DOFP does 112 million holding on like X2
did Is best case sceniro for DOFP and that would bring It around 240 to 250 million.

If DOFP has larger 4 day weekend or holds on better than past X-Men films then this Is whole new ballgame.

X2 was last time time you had a successful X-Men that people coming out really liked.
First Class wasn't In same postion as X2 was.

Overseas box office will be a lot more interesting. I can't really get too excited over these domestic figures given how good the film was.

Yeah, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed by the numbers.Hopefully, it gets a great multiplier due to the extremely positive WOM.

DOFP should easily top the wolverine's strong overseas numbers.

DOmestic numbers just show once again some no matter quality of film just won't embrace
X-Men films. I just hope DOFP can beat the last stand's unadjusted domestic total.

I still day DOPF tops the $250 million mark domestically.

Especially if it's getting an "A" from the audience. That measn it should have good word-of-mouth...which is something I don't thinkt the franchise has had in a long time.

If the Wolverine can do $282 million foreign, I have no trouble seeing this film make $400-$450 million foreign.

Most big openers have around a 2.0-2.2 multiplier for Memorial weekend. So if DOFP holds with that $112M figure. Its final gross is looking around $225-250M.

yesterday I realized that Dofp opened with less theatres than Ironman 3, Man of Steel and Hunger Games2. And the three of them ended doing more than 290m.

So XMen had less theatres and no Imax, basically worse conditions than those three movies. Fox clearly didnt go all out with the release, as this shows. Wonder why Fox always goes cheaper with the XMen, compared to those examples. :(

I think franchise momentum is significant here too. X3 & XMO:W killed that and it's proving very hard to build up again even with good work. If things had gone fine and X3 been universally approved we could be expecting a lot more from a 2014 X-Men film.

US box office takings haven't been that exciting for a few years now. International is king.

290m for Superman reboot first movie was pretty good. Wonder why XMen seem to have that hard time to achieve that.

Iron man 3 and especially Avengers were exciting. And Avengers 2 is probably going to break opening records again (not sure about overall though). Nice to see superhero films doing well overseas now. They used to be more US focused than now for sure.

Well guys we have to keep things in perspective:

FOX really f***ed up this franchise over a period of several years and the brand was tarnished. It wasn't just one film that weakened things either. So it's gonna take a minute to build it back up to the respect and momentum the franchise had before FOX squandered its fortune with X3.

If anything, may this be a humbling lesson for these executives: don't f*** with greatness when you have it in your grasp. Moviegoing audiences are not forgetful. They also didn't release this in IMAX which I think is foolish.

That said, I think that this one is going to be a slow burn. The word of mouth and critics is over the top great and that will catch on. The film that will benefit the MOST from this is Apocalypse. THAT'S the film that may do Avenger level business because it will be building on the momentum of this (just like X3's undeserved success was fueled by the brilliance of X2).

Early summer is the wrong time to release a slow burn. You lose your screens too quickly.

has just seen that X2 made 31m on first day, just 4m less than Dofp??? seriously? a sequel from 11 years ago doing basically the same? I honestly dont get this. This movie has the best superhero cast ever, how is this possible? even with X3 and Origins, both being entertaining movies, yes, fans hated them, but I dont believe general movie goers are that demanding. If general audience has supported Spiderman 3, Thor 2 and Ironman 3, I honestly dont understand why they cant support a movie as huge as Dofp with its memorable cast

If DOFP has 112 Million over 4 day weekend and it holds up like X2 did In 2003
which had 85 Million opening weekend and grossed 214 Million domesticly
we could be looking at between 240 and 250 Million Domestic final for DOFP

X2 was in early May though. Memorial Day weekend tends to amplify a film's frontloadedness, especially if they were big openers.

X-Men is no longer a huge draw for box office thanks to X3 and Origins. First Class only opened with 55 million for the weekend and Wolverine did about the same as well. It takes time to rebuild the box office power for the franchise, and this is the beginning.

Well, Superman is more popular in the US than X-Men. Plus, it had some amazing marketing.

again, I dont buy at all this 'X3 and Origins hurt the franchise' as much as most fans think. I mean, this is the first movie with original actors since 2006, so its works somehow as a sequel to X3, meaning the audience hasnt had a real sequel before so we can compare the real impact after X3 reception. 8 years is a very long time to forget an old movie. The main issue here is all the actors are now more popular, both original and FC actors. Thats why I dont get this

Imagine if DOFP made less than First Class. That's the situation Spider-man is currently in.

DOFP should be close to the highest grossing X-men movie domestically and hands down the biggest X-men movie worldwide.

The franchise was successfully rejuvenated.

Why would anyone complain?

The X-franchise has lost a chunk of the GA for good, or at least a long time. It's like the old Star Trek series (not that I'm saying there was anything wrong with it). Even if one of them had been the best film of the year too many people think Star Trek ...oh tried it, not for me. And I think many do this now with X-Men. They think by now they know what's it about and it might just not be their thing, good or not. We had the disadvantage of starting out when things were uncertain so we never had the budget and freedom to go for event film status and once we had 2 disappointing films in a row, now even if we do get event film status people won't know to check it out or be as open to it as they would be to something new or something proven (to them).

Yeah, that's the important thing, the box office is increasing. Patience is needed. Think of this as a sequel to FC instead of X3. The movie is in very good position.

I'm 100% convinced that this film will have legs. Not only will positive word of mouth get people into the theaters that could otherwise care less, but there will be repeat viewing by fans for weeks to come. I for one have not seen a film in the theater more than once since The Avengers. I am planning on seeing DOFP again this weekend and will likely see it a third time.

I am planning multiple viewings as well. ;)
