Guys, guys, GUYS! What did I tell you? WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT FEEDING THE TROLLS AFTER MIDNIGHT!? For the love of Pete, I give you all one simple task! And you probably watered him too didn't you? Well, this is what you all get.

I forgot how you can't have a different opinion here without being called a troll.

There is no denying that GoT is great pop corn flick. but to claim it has some great characters moments and amazing narrative? Seriously?
No great character moments? :funny:

"Those are brave men knocking at our door. Let's go kill them!"

"Tomorrow you will catch it."

"Stick'em with the pointy end."

"You don't fight with honor."
"No... he did."

"And now my watch begins..."

"You know nothing, Jon Snow."

"By what right does the wolf judge the lion? By what right?"

"And he lived. And I couldn't keep my promise. And everything that's happened since then, all this horror that's come to my family... it's all because I couldn't love a motherless child."

Should I keep going?

Maybe people just find it deep? Did this ever occur to you?

I think there is a title for a video game in here, but I honestly can't find it.

you're really trying to convince me with one-liners? I guess you think The Avengers was a deep movie as well? I will give you that, those are great one-liners.

Because something is dark doesn't make it deep, I'm sorry.

You complain about it lacking character moments, I give you some, and then you change the goalpost. If you had actually watched the show, you'd realize these are poignant lines from larger scenes that define characters and their motivations. Considering we are talking about GoT, we aren't allowed to post links as most of the material isn't PG-13.

But if you'd like, I am sure I could find some links to the scripts. Or maybe we can all figure out a way to get you an HBO-Go subscription. Then you could actually watch the show and know what you are talking about.

Also, I don't think the Avengers is particularly deep, but it has great character moments that got many people, including myself, cheering.

not only do I watch the show, but I've also read the first three books, and while I think the show is a good adaptation, I don't think it really translate the depth of the books, Stannis being a good example of that.

While I am more of a critic then most here about the show, what it has accomplished in terms of story and character on television has been impressive. The first season is nearly flawless in this regard, and while the second and third have not quite lived up to it, there is a reason people cared about Ned losing his head and Red Wedding. Tyrion, Arya, Joffery, Dany. They are a part of popular culture now for a reason.

You are not going to find many things more compelling then Blackwater. Not on television and not in videogames.

"By what right does the wolf judge the lion? By what right!?"

That's probably my favorite quote from the series thus far. That scene is just so ****ing powerful. I hate Jaime especially after he killed his cousin in that cage but that damn scene just reveals so much about who Jaime is, I dunno. I just ****ing love that whole scene but that line particularly is just ****ing boss

Pop corn flick? :wow:

Look, I'm not jumping on you here or anything and I also won't make any claims with regards to Assassin's Creed since I haven't played, but just out of curiosity, have you read the ASOIAF books? :yay:

It is an incredible scene. You are watching the last dying breaths of Jaime Lannister, the Golden Boy. All the pain, the rage, the sorrow, keeping it all inside for so many years. Incredible acting from both Nikolaj and Gwendoline.

Like I said, I've read the first three books and the Dunk and Egg's books.

A question for you all: apart from the show's main theme, what's your favourite piece of music used in Game of Thrones? Mine would have to be Robert Baratheon's theme, later used during the baby slaughtering in the first episode of Season 2...

I can assure you that the character is not a "bland pirate". You shall see in the future seasons. Anyway, moving on...

I allways loved Stannis's soundtrack

No more love for Robert's theme? Dammit people :cmad:

Three tracks are my favourites - 'Victory Does Not Make Us Conquerors' from S1, 'Winterfell' from S2 and 'A Lannister Always Pays His Debts' from S3.

wait what? when did this become the assassins creed forum?

and im Ezio mother***** Auditore!!!

my opinion here, as a fan of both ASOIAF and AC, assassins creed has been diminishing its quality from Brothehood onwards. the story in ACIII (Connor's) is one of the worst stories i've ever seen/read/heard. seriously.( and i loved the Desmond story)

while i love all that mystic things about First Civilization (specially in ACII with the glitches), the real escense of an "Assassin" was the very first gameç, with Altair. Although i do think that ACII was the best game in the franchise. And now, after 5 games, it has lost it's touch.

ASOIAF and Game of Thrones, on the other hand, is practically 10 times better in EVERYTHING.

this is my opinion though, as a huge fan of both series, books, and game.

Requiescat in Pace

as for the tracks. i love the following:
Season 1:
Goodbye Brother
King of The North
Kill Them All
The King's Arrival
Jon's Honor
Small Pack of Wolves

Season 2:
The Throne Is Mine
What is Dead May Never Die
Pay the Iron Price
Wildfire
Winterfell
I Am Hers, She is Mine

Season 3:
A Lannister Alwas Pays His Debts
For The Realm
(the moment i heard this i made it my mission to learn it on guitar)
The Lannister Send their Regards

the ones in black are my utter favorites

No more love for Robert's theme? Dammit people :cmad:

they are in my list of favorites :) and i felt nostalgic when in S3 Melisandre revealed Gendry his true identity. "The bastard of Robert of House Baratheon, King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm", all while Robert's theme kept sounding in the background. Epic.

Seriously? Why do you watch Game of Thrones if not for the characters and the overall narrative? Because the "popcorn moments" (Dany burning a bunch of people, an Ice Zombie here, a giant battle there, poor dead Ned) only occur about 2-3 times a season.

So you watch 10 hours of footage for about "three minutes" of payoff? I know some viewers feel that way, but they mostly dropped out of the show by the end of the second season because it was "slow." The reason it is slow is that beyond all the excessive world building (and it really does become excessive by the fourth book in the literary form), it is about creating morally ambiguous and nuanced human beings in this ridiculously fantastic world. The appeal is the literal "game of thrones" (its heavily complicated over-arching narrative, which while not necessarily the best, is likely the most dense and intricate of any on TV at the moment), and the characters who partake in that game.

Tyrion, Jaime, Tywin, Arya, Brienne, Varys, Littlefinger, etc. are genuinely great characters. And the few who are much more straightforward like Joffrey, are also quite memorable, as Martin roots many of their tics and eccentricities into real historical precedence (Joffrey is a variation on Caligula, Tyrion can be viewed as Richard III, etc.). Plus Jack Gleeson is just too much fun as the villain. In the books, I despised Joffrey thoroughly, but he is quite the entertaining presence on the show.

Granted it is a fantasy, and neither Martin or the show runners needed to go to such lengths to build this world. But the reason it is such a juggernaut is because they did. If people only watched for nudity and gore, they would be better served by a show like Spartacus than this.

The books ain't that great either since you never get to read a Robb Chapter and the dude is supposedly the hero but look at what happened to him. Do you really think Edward Kenway or Ezio Auditore would get caught tht stupidly? I will help you with the answer: no they wouldn't. actually they wouldn't even get caught at all. Or they would get caught and escape, because that is what true heroes do. Not whining stupidly before dying.

Also Gendry is boring. Imagine Connor Kenway in his place. He wouldn't care for lame Stannis or stupid red witch. He would tomahawk them in the head and then report to Georges Washington.

Okay, I just saw this instigating post. You do realize that is what make GOT clever right? In the generic, formulaic story (cough-Assassin's Creed-cough), a character like Robb would be the hero. The generic chosen one who comes from nothing (or someone who lost everything like Ezio) to be a great man and have his revenge.

Martin never writes a Robb chapter as it subverts the cliche. Instead, we always view Robb from the point-of-view of his critical mother, Catleyn. What is extraordinarily great about this subversion is that many readers (and viewers) still treated Robb like the great salvation for the Starks, because that is what the storybooks would have you believe. Instead, Cat's criticisms prove to be right on the money and Robb's mistakes get himself, his mother, his wife and child (on the show), and a whole host of his men killed. It is staggeringly awful and more creative than what can be done in video games where the protagonist must live until the end of the story due to the limitations of the medium.

Here is a fun exercise in comparing characterizations: Without being able to tell me what Desmond Miles does (professionally or as an "assassin" on the run) or what he looks like, describe him as a character. Describe him as a person.

I thought so.

i agree entirely. and Robb is one of my favorite characters.

i just saw that the guy compared Gendry to Kenway.:huh::huh:

it's like comparing Reek with Kratos...... it makes no sense at all
