HBO's Game of Thrones - - Part 16

They want viewers to see The Mountain's face, so they leave it off. That's why Tyrion didn't wear a helm during The Blackwater.

And that is why George R.R Martin starts talking about how stupid it is. He makes such a long-ass speech about the helms.

I'm pretty sure he's said he understands why they do it on a TV show though.

In this situation, it's not a big deal. It's a duel between two people, not a skirmish in a battlefield.

I think his no-helmet rage is justified. Some guy apparently lost his nose on set thanks to not wearing a helmet. And for a character like the Mountain, him being a fully armored Terminator wouldn't hurt the audience's perception of him at all. Oberyn in the books doesn't have a face mask, but he does have a helmet, like how Tyrion in Blackwater had the helmet with the face guard open.

And some people like myself appreciate the more sincerely realistic depiction of armored warriors with their faces covered, and how in some movies the helmet only comes off as the fight gets more desperate. Like how in Prince Caspian, they let e stuntmen do the first part of the fight with the helmets than had them take them off from the heat and sheer exhaustion to let the main actors get in some shots.

And sometimes, they just need to have fun with the helmets. The Hounds helm is awesome and it's a shame we only got one fight scene with it.

But the Mountain does wear a helmet but then he takes it off for some reason.

Maybe Oberyn knocks it off with his lance. That would be pretty badass, and likely unnerve The Mountain just a teensy bit. "Oh, what a nice helm. It'd be a shame if I..." *whack* *Helm goes flying.*

That would be perfect! It'd illustrate that Oberyn is on the offensive and the legendary Mountain is getting unsettled :)

Also, i'm getting the sense you haven't actually heard Martin's commentary on Blackwater, am i right?

That's exactly the way I'm expecting it to happen. :awesome:

Haha, have you guys seen this? GoT stars in real life. Weird to watch after getting so used to them on the show, and some of them are really shocking.

Who remembers this guy from TDKR?

Julian Glover probably has had the best career of any actor. He's been in Star Wars as General Veers, he's been in Indiana Jones as Walter Donovan, he's been in James Bond (For Your Eyes Only) as the main villain Kristatos, he starred in Harry Potter as the voice of Aragog the Spider. That's four of the biggest film franchises in cinema history right there, and now he's got Game of Thrones under his belt. The man is a legend!

Haha, Bane throat-punching Littlefinger in TDKR is great. :o

Also, I think it was Victarion who made the comment "She didn't fly so good" after Littlefinger shoved Lisa into the Moondoor during the last episode, which I thought was especially pertinent in the context of his role in TDKR. :awesome:

I've never watched it. In a show with dragons, zombies, ice demons, wolves the size of horses, and year-long seasons, I don't really care if they depict some people fighting without helmets. They do it so the audience can see the actor's face. And considering some people don't know the names of characters after 4 years, I see it as a necessity. It's not as if GRRM is entirely accurate with the book anyway; he's notoriously awful when it comes to describing the sizes and distances of objects and places.

I have many expectations for tonight's episode.

ELIA OF DORNE!!!!

Looking forward to tonight.

It's always nice to have people who haven't read the book over when someone major is going to get killed off. :awesome:

These last three episodes are gonna be the shizz if they do them right. So do we know for a fact that
the final scene with Catelyn will be in the finale?

Hell yeah, been a long wait but it's on tonight. Gotta remember to stop playing Watch_Dogs when it comes on so I can catch it live but I do have the DVR set just in case

Nothing beyond

I truly hope it happens. Because that's one of the most jaw dropping moments I've ever read in a book. If they play their cards right in these past three episodes, this moment would be the perfect way to end it.

Oh, it would. I would also hope they leave (A Feast for Crows spoiler)
Thoros's line to Brienne, that line about how war makes monsters of them all and that some knights are dark and full of terror.

Look, you can talk all about the reasonings for the helms, even George R.R Martin knows this, but it still doesn't change the facts he complains about the helmets for about 15 to 20 minutes.

If you can't accept that, that's your problem. I was making a joke about Martin, deal with it. :oldrazz:

So excited for tonight's ep!

And sad too but whatever... :funny:

Can't wait to see Tumblr crash. :D

They should play this song over the fight:
