They were thinking "oh crap, we don't have another 8 months of developement time..."

There were also complaints that there wasn't enough enemy variety, bosses were cheap and that combat got stale.
This game is awesome and it's also very, very short. Took me one day to finish. I still had a great time so I rate it 8.
God of War had plenty of variety. Stop skipping your dementia medsVariety complaints were non-existant in God of War, but there was more variety in combat in the entire demo of Heavenly Sword.![]()
I breezed through Heavenly Sword on Normal mode, dying only 4-5 times (once because I didn't know you shouldn't kill the engineer with MASSIVE damage using Kai, lol). I've beaten God of War on God mode as well as other games in the genre, so some might have it tougher. At first I didn't like that it wasn't too challenging for people who play these kind of games very well.
But now I understand that's the default difficulty for the masses who always complain Devil may Cry and Ninja Gaiden is too tough. I played Hell mode and haven't beaten it yet, but it definitely forces you to use a lot more combat strategies and tactics. This is the mode that forces you to learn how to play the game inside and out (I hope there is an even harder mode afterwards!)
The deepness of the combo system makes a lot more sense when you have to choose more carefully when best to use what. I now even try to throw more objects and time my use of her super attack since it helps get through a level easier when I never bothered with in Normal.
Overall HS is a great, great game with seemingly excellent replayability (especially with the secret vases and 3-star rating system of the sections). Games like this aren't RPGs where you pplay it once and are basically done... if the play mechanics are great and the challenge is there, you can play a good beat 'em up a dozen times and still not get bored.
I give the game 4.5 stars out of 5. An excellent title no action PS3 gamer should be without.
Can't you turn off the Sixaxis control like in the demo? I think it changes it to triangle. The game is a tiring but fun, tiring because the SiXaXis aftertouch controls can be murder, fun because you ALWAYS have to be aware of whats going on around you. I've only reached Whiptail so far and I'm enjoying the game.
I do see some reason for its short length though:
*Extras such as videos and the "anime" are unlocked as you go along the game rather than collecting points and purchasing them
*Scaling walls and such are quick affairs because of the "Hero" sequences
