Heavy Rain

2 things...

First of all, if the explanation is cut from the game, whether it's a good explanation or not it doesn't count and the game still contains a plot hole. Whatever is in the finish product is all that counts when judging the game as a whole.

Secondly, the supernatural stuff was what I loved most about Fahrenheit and I was really anticipating the same thing in Heavy Rain, so kinda bumber they cut it out.

Edit: Also, as someone points out in the youtube comments of that link, What is so out there about the water themed dream sequences compared to Ethans Trainstation xavier freeze everyone moment?

I don't mind that the supernatural stuff got taken out. I liked it in Fahrenheit, until they went into Matrix territory and had evil AIs running around.

Would have seemed kinda off. I mean, unless they subtracted the entire subplot of it...from beginning to end. In that case, they should have got rid of Ethan's "nightmares" too. I'll give that youtube link a look, though.

The clocks scene seems like the major one to me. Just because I don't remember getting a feeling of any passage of time. Could be wrong, though. But, don't remember getting the sense that "Oh, a minute or two passed between Shelby heading to the back and finding the old man".

And, I guess him getting his ass kicked by the rich guy's dad was another "trial" for that guy's dad...or something?

Indigo Prophecy fell apart when they introduced the Sci-fi elements towards the end. Thank god that was left out of HR

Im confused with what you're asking.
Gordie's dad didnt recieve any of thr trials as he didnt have a young son that was kidnapped.

Yup it's still a plot hole and a big one at that. I was just pointing out that at one point there was going to be an explanation for it in the game.

I'm happy they cut out the paranormal stuff from HR, while I enjoyed most of Fahrenheit it got way to out there in the end for its own good.

But think of the awesome paranormal stuff that was there throughout the whole thing, just Lucas waking up with the knife in his hand and no memory of whats going on... His freaky dreams, the bugs, the apartment breaking apart. Sure it got wacky at the end, but that surreal stuff towards the beginning and middle is what set my teeth on edge for most of the game. That moment in Heavy Rain, with the water pouring down the stairs? That would have been awesome, and I spend a large chunk of the game anticipating something like that, something that just takes things to the next level....

It worked in Fahrenheit (for the most part) because it was there from the beginning. Most of the game was totally awesome for it, and it was obviously built around the fact that weird stuff happened. It was only towards the end when stuff got out of control. Now I haven't played the game since release but wasn't there yellow aliens or some stuff at one point? The opening scene however is one of the most tense gaming scenes I've ever had the pleasure to play, as is a lot of the other in the beginning to mid game in Fahrenheit.

Heavy Rain on the other hand. It was touted a a realistic thriller/drama from day one. (Even if, they obviously had plans to not make it so.) Had there been some hints about paranormality in the game it could've worked. But this would've been totally out of the left field and totally unnecessary. It would've been like a dumping a weird mind-connecting plot into The Pursuit of Happiness. (Or another drama of your choice.)

Would it better to leave it in the game, and not have a glaring plot hole? Maybe, maybe not. I'm glad they cut it at least, not because it looks boring or bad, but because it has nothing to do in the game they were trying to make.

IDA. HR was supposed to be grounded in reality and its why it grabbed me more than Indigo Prophecy. I dont think that paranormal stuff had any place in the game. It would make it silly for lack of a better word

I know. But, I'm just trying to understand why Shelby was grilling Gordie at all, and in turn pissing off Gordie's dad...and getting his ass kicked, and then almost killed.

Realistically, it just seems like that entire plot was a red herring. Even though Shelby ought to be aware that he's going to hurt himself or get himself killed...he's still doing it? Why? Doesn't he know he's probably hurting his chances of getting away with the murders?

Gordie's dad owned the construction site where John died...but that's pretty much all I got, in terms of why he was messing with them at all. Since, you know...he wasn't really runing an actual investigation.

And why I, as Shelby, let Gordie's dad live at all.

Why Shelby goes after Gordie I have no idea, I don't remember if there was a reason for it at all, beside just being a red herring. Someone refresh my memory. Why you/Shelby (and I) let Gordie's dad live can be explained however. Scott's intention was to find a dad that would go to untold lengths to save his child, which Gordie's dad did.

Yeah, that's the only thing I can think of in trying to rationize why Shelby went through all the trouble of bribing someone to get into Gordie's mansion party, getting his ass kicked by his bodyguards, take on the threats of Gordie's dad and telling him he won't back down from the case.

If I'd had known I was the Oragami Killer...I totally would have iced Gordie's dad. Probably should have either way, thinking about it now. I mean, I must have killed like 20 bodyguards trying to get to him.

So I finally played the game this week and on my first playthrough I got:

[blackout]An almost perfectly happy ending where Ethan, Madison, Jayden and Lauren all lived and Scott died in the meat contractor. The only thing I missed is that I didn't forgive Madison in the motel and they were separated in the epilogue. I went back and changed that and now they're together....which may be too happy.[/blackout]

I guess I make good choices (like not taking the drink at the Doc's house and being given a Trophy afterwards). :o ;) :oldrazz:

Now, I'll play through a second time and...[blackout]Make sure everyone is dead but Scott, just to see how things change.[/blackout]

Should be fun.

So I've been on the fence for a while with this game, but I finally started a Gamefly trial and got this sent to me for the week. While I'm really enjoying it, I'm a little upset because for some reason I can't get past the loading screen for chapter 33. It shows Ethan's face, but it doesn't do anything after that and I hate it because I'm trying to get the Platinum trophy as quickly as possible because I'm planning on sending the game back before I start getting charged for an actual membership. But I can't figure out if this is a disk problem or an update problem, since I downloaded the update before I started playing.

Anyone else encounter a similar issue or solution?

EDIT: I finally got the game to load the chapter after cleaning the disk with a spray that I used to clean the lenses on my glasses, but even then I encountered several points of the game freezing. It's a good game, but there area lot of annoying little bugs that make me glad I rented as opposed to buying.

So has there been any news on any of the other episodes that was supposed to be released as DLC for Heavy Rain? I know the Taxidermist is available but that's all I see. I thought Quantic Dream said they were going to release content annually?

actually they said that they were done. They were supposed to release more after HR came out but Sony made them put out the Move edition and their time and resources when there. Its quite unfortunate but that is most likely the last bit of HR content they will have released. They are a small studio and dont really have the luxury to work on multiple projects. Im sure they are onto their next game already which presumably be announced at a conference next year, like GDC or E3

Heavy Rain is one of the most unique and beloved PlayStation 3 exclusives. From the minds at Quantic Dream, Heavy Rain tells the tale of a father put in the ultimate bind after his son is kidnapped by the dangerous Origami Killer. An "Interactive Drama," Heavy Rain is unlike any game you've ever played before. We here at IGN loved it so much that we gave it a 9.0 and an Editor's Choice Award. It also won IGN's 2010 PS3 Game of the Year.

And now, a special edition of Heavy Rain is PS3-bound. Entitled Heavy Rain: Director's Cut, this new edition of the game will cost $29.99 and come with the following:
  • The Complete Heavy Rain Game
  • Heavy Rain Chronicles, Episode 1: The Taxidermist
  • Heavy Rain Original Videogame Score
  • New menus and interface, fully PlayStation Move supported
  • 8 "Making of Heavy Rain" Videos
  • Three Dynamic Themes
  • 15 new pieces of concept art
  • 2 bonus trailers

Could this be a sign that Quantic Dream is working on a sequel to Heavy Rain? Better yet, is it a sign that a different Quantic Dream project is underway? That's all conjecture for now, but we can be excited, right?

Heavy Rain: Director's Cut is set for release on November 8th in North America. There's no word yet on its release schedule in other territories. You can read more about it at the PlayStation Blog.

I think it is a certainty that QD is working on a new game, but they have made it very clear that a HR 2 will not happen.

You can't beat that DC though. If you haven't played it yet, this is a great time to try it out. It's a great game.

I got the Director's Cut on BF. I only wish it didnt comein that ugly red casing.

Anyway, here's some stats

Heavy Rain, IGN PS3's Game of the Year in 2010, is still one of the most talked about exclusives on the console nearly two years out from its initial release. Interest in the game is still high. Equally high is interest in what Quantic Dream is working on next.
While we wait to learn more about what Quantic Dream has cooking, here are some new statistics the team learned, garnered directly from how people played Heavy Rain.

Maybe the Big Ps3 exclusive reveal at the VGA's could be Quantic Dreams new game.

Thread BUMP!

Good news. HR is being remastered for the PS4

Bad news. Its only coming to EU. BOOOOOOOOO! HR's biggest advocator wont be able to play it

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2015/06/16/heavy-rain-and-beyond-two-souls-are-coming-to-ps4/
yep, I posted that in the remasters thread.

I'll get heavy rain. game was intriguing to me but I never got it on Ps3

and btw, even though it's one region you can still just get it here (assuming you're state side, havok) but the shipping charges just might be a bit steep, is all.

I don't import games and I still have the original so it wouldnt be worth it to me.
