He's The Secret Weapon... David Ayer IS the Director and Script Writer

Is it weird that they are doing the casting so fast?

I mean, the script has not even been written yet. Unless they used the old script as
a blueprint but the lineup in the old script does not include Harley.

Normally casting is done after the script has been written. And the director has not even been confirmed yet.

And why all those A-list actors/actresses? I was hoping WB would cast some young up and comers for the roles instead.

A-list actors/actresses usually have ridiculous high salary demands and I'm not sure if it is worthy for WB or not.

I think it's actually pretty genius. Casting A list actors for a mostly unknown property (to the GA) could grab a lot of attention.

Casting the best actors you can get is always a good decision as far as I'm concerned. It doesn't always work but I think it gives you a better chance at success. I'm just sad that this Suicide Squad cast seems to be shaping up better than the Justice League cast.

Looking back over CBM history, the villains are usually bigger, more recognized stars (as are usually the mentor type characters).

I didn't give a **** about this project when i first heard they were developing, soon as a started hearing the names being brought up for the project though, :hubba how can you not?

This is true.

Also since the SS squad members always change you can try to entice these actors by not forcing them to sign some nine picture contract.

You can have Ryan Gosling as Deadshot in just one movie. But I hear he just doesn't do cbm full stop.

Another guy who has yet to be swayed to do a cbm is Jason Statham, I'd like to see him in this kind of movie in some capacity. Maybe he can be Boomerang.

I hope this will be rated R. I need to see Deathstroke decapitating a goon or Deadshot blowing someone's head off. I also need to hear some cussing. Do it WB.

Very stoked about the news. My thoughts:

Budget
I'm surprised they're putting this much money into it. Not complaining obviously.

When Goyer mentioned a year or so ago that they were developing some lower budget movies, I assumed that meant not loading up on huge stars or marketing costs, and just releasing it quietly for DC fans and action junkies (think Dredd), and that's that.

This sounds like they're hoping this can squeeze into the public consciousness the way Guardians did. August release date and all. If handled right, and if they make the property's core appeal very apparent, I think it could. Not saying this is now going to have 100-200M$ budget (who knows yet), I just didn't expect them shelling out for Smith, Gosling, Hardy, etc, let alone all of them.

Direction
Very curious to see what direction they take this tonally, visually, etc. Will it be as darkly comedic and ott as the recent animated film? Will it be ridiculous, have fun with itself, and utilize the cheesy names? Will they harken back more to the original Ostrander stuff (with regards to line-up and tone?). Will they use the 'fun' of an R-rating? Or will they play it straight? I think a number of directions could work well.

Ayer
I'm cautiously optimistic about Ayer. Though I haven't seen Fury yet, a lot of his recent films, save End of Watch, have sort of failed to make much of an impact on me, and while he's got his strengths, a part of me wonders if this property would more easily come to life in the hands of a Guy Ritchie, or someone who's shown to be able to create something bold.

Shared-universe
Goyer initially mentioned that it would be separate, though things can always change obviously. I'm fine either way: They could do this as a way to seed the villains for the universe later on and have a lot of fun with its connection to the iconic heroes, or they could just use ridiculous d-listers that the JL movies would never touch, most of who could be offed by the end of the film, and just bank on the appeal of these A-list stars all playing scumbags on a ridiculous team. I think if done right, SS has enough of an appeal to make an impact even if there's no way for the GA to know that it comes from a DC comic book.

Not sure why people keep saying Manta. Don't think he will be in the Mix. Read somewhere that he's going to be in the Auqaman movie. Don't think they will put him in both. If it happens Will Smith is going to be cast as Deadshot. The leader of the Squad. Some Fan Boys are going to go crazy about a black guy playing a white character.

Getting some lesser known faces (save Ben Affleck as Batman) as the more iconic superheroes in the JL films and letting those characters sell themselves while getting more recognizable talent playing the villains like this rumored list is smart if you ask me. Even if they don't get all of these talents for this movie, the fact that they're going after names like these means that they're taking this very seriously.

Bingo.

Also where in the hell did you find that pic of Brock for your avatar?

Is Harley even in the mix? I know Margot Robbie points to a Harley but couldn't she play Vixen? Just change her race? Or is that still a thing? I mean the current Perry White's is African American so maybe Vixen is a Caucasian South African?

I still don't see Harley working in this DCCU. Maybe in Michael Keaton's Batman but not now. She's just too cartoony and would be useless in a black ops team.

The last thing that we need is for fewer opportunities for women of color to be in a Comic Book movie. We only have two among all Comic book movies and one of them is playing an alien. Why devoid another black woman an opportunity to play a superhero?

The New 52 has been making its way into the live action Universes in some way so no way Harley isn't in it.

Obviously they will have to tone Harley down a bit, not too over the top so it doesn't break the tone of the movie. It doesn't matter if the usually hysterical fanboys/girls whine about it, the movie will be good if Ayer has a good script and a great cast.

Casting A-listers is the best way to attract the public's attention since most people don't know what the Suicide Squad is.

If Harley is in, I would say she would be the draw of the movie considering Harley is an iconic character outside of the comic book community.

The casting rumors and even the people who have been cast should put to rest all the people who wanted Arrow and Flash to be connected.

If you can have Ryan Gosling or Tom Hardy as Deadshot (assuming) why in the world would you want Michael Rowe?

Same goes for everyone else

in the Suicide Squad comics right now, the focus is on Manta, Deathstroke, Deadshot, and Harley.

There's a good chance that the four of them will be in this movie

I LOVE Michael Rowe as Deadshot on Arrow, but c'mon if I had to choose between either Ryan Gosling/Tom Hardy or Michael Rowe.....Yeah.
