Fantasy Highlander Remake

I caught some of it on AMC yesterday. While I didn't watch all of it, some of it I noticed could be improved upon and could work very well for a remake. But it can't be half assed. Though Connery was greatness as always.

The guy who played Mcloud didn't impress me at all from what I saw.

Last month the Highlander World Wide con was in LA. I read on the Highlander Official board, that there's a early draft done. It's basically a straight forward remake with some new characters and more backstory on 'The Kurgan'. But that's a early draft.

More back story on 'The Kurgan can be good.

I haven't seen it for a long time but I really liked Ramirez and the Kurgan back then. Whoever replace them has some big shoes to fill imo.

If they want to make sequels to this "remake" if it's successful, they would be better off not having McCloud win the prize in this "first film" after he defeats Kurgan in the end, like he did in the original movie. Save it for the third or fourth movie.

Also, have new bad guys in the sequels who are not just ripoffs of the Kurgan like the sequels to the original film were. The TV show was better than the sequels to the original movie for many reasons, the biggest one being that the bad guys were wide ranging and had different motivations and personalities (some were old friends of McCloud who he had to kill because they were doing evil things), and didn't just copy the same first bad guy and the same first plot time and time again.

That is an example of a bad way to make a sequel, basically repeating the first movie, and Highlander did that over and over again. Hopefully any sequels to the remake (if there are any) won't repeat the same mistake.

If they start over they need to clarify the powers. Most of the time you didnt know what power they had or what power they gained from killing the other guy. Heck, I'm still not clear on Duncan's original power.

I think the way to go with explaining the Quickening should be as follows : When an immortal beheads another in combat, all the knowledge, skills, and talents of the beheaded will be consumed and absorbed by the victorious immortal.

I thought that was obvious. Maybe not in the first one, but either in the second or third they made that clear.

Man the sequels were so disappointing.

Here is the link to the Highlander web site, they have a section on their message boards just for the remake. One thread is a script review, I haven't checked it out much myself. One of the things mentioned is that producer Peter Davis is supposed to have said that the budget will be around $100 million(or something like that) in the July issue of Empire magazine. And as far as I know the offical Highlander storyline(or how ever you want to say it) is Highlander, Highlander the series and Highlander: End Game. Each sequal kinda replaced each other as the offical sequal. And from what I've read it wasn't long before Highlander: The Source was taken out of the storyline not long after it came out.

There's only one way I'm signing off on this... Gerard Butler as Connor McLeod.

I´d rather someone younger for Connor MacLeod...I think Buttler is around 40 ?? I dunno...someone in his mid 20s..oh, and I would really like´em not to state that Connor became inmortal at age 18...he didn´t look 18 in the first one and deffinitely didn´t look 18 in the secuels....that´s just stupid, I hate when they make movies or tv shows about inmortals and they state the age that guy became inmortal at....after some time, they don´t look that age anymore...that´s just anoying....but maybe that´s just me....:o

Polux

Actually, most people have no idea what it means.

I think the best way is to cast an unknown that shows promise in the role and that he may become a future star. Any star now who is established , I think its hard to shed his past roles & view him as MacLeod.

well, Star Trek is a different time line that acknowledges the old series and movies..

They need to keep Queen's "Princes of the Universe" Highlander theme song in this. Then I will be on board. If not...meh.

DP, woops.

that would be funny. the music in no way would fit in this time.

As a fan of the original Highlander Movie and the series, I would welcome a reboot. I love the Immortal Mythology.
But for those that question the 2nd and 3rd movie just watch the 4th movie and it says that conner was kidnapped on rogue watchers after the first movie and was druggged and halucinating the 2nd and 3rd movie. Season 6 of the series and tv movie that was more of an Adrian Paul ego trip.

Queens Princes of the Universe is the Diffinative theme song.

I would like to have a New Mccloud non Conner and not Duncon for a reboot that give a new history but stay true to the Mythology. that way the other fans {like me} dont nitpick all thier history from the series and movie

Connor wasnt kidnapped and drugged. He voluntarily went into the Sanctuary program because he couldnt deal with all the loved ones around him dying anymore. We learned that it was actually Kale following and tormenting Connor for all those years.

They made Connor a sniveling disgrace in End Game and I hate the movie for that reason. Also, this movie contradicted the pliot episode of the Highlander television series. So I dont put any stock into any of the sequels. They all contradict each other.

i hated endgame and still think they are all pretty corny, especially the villain in 1. if anything needs to be remade, its this

Highlander had 1 good movie. I am fine with that movie. I don't need a remake.
